Review: 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track (Manual)

  • Опубліковано 21 лип 2024
  • The 2013 Genesis Coupe was the first year of the refresh, equipped with a more powerful engine that now featured direct injection, along with a refined manual transmission. In this video I compare it to the automatic transmission version I reviewed years ago, along with its main competitors. Now going on 11 years later, has the Genesis Coupe aged well? I think so. What do you think about the Genesis Coupe? Huge thanks to Harrison Auto Sales for providing this vehicle to review! This car is currently for sale and more information about it can be found here: www.harrisonautos.com/details...

I had a '12 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec up until a few months ago when I traded it in for my '22 Supra 3.0. I bought the Genesis over a decade ago brand new, and had only one issue out of it in all those years. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it and sent me on my way with no issues (10 year, 100k mile warranty).
I had a great experience owning the Genesis over the years. If they still offered a coupe, I likely would have simply bought an updated model instead of getting the Supra (I do love my Supra though).

Yeah, the sedans from Genesis look really nice now (G70). It would be awesome if they used some of that design prowess on a new coupe.

Bought my 2013 track in 2016, still loving it. No company to this day has offered such a good bang for the buck sports car so until they do, I'll keep it and keep maintaining it.

They last forever too. I had a '12 Coupe 3.8 R-Spec that I owned until a few months ago. Bought it brad new in 2011. Only had one issue out of it in all those years, which the dealer fixed with zero hassle. I wish Hyundai/Genesis still offered a coupe. It was still running great when I traded it in a few months ago.

I’m glad to see you reviewing a stock(ish) Genesis Coupe 3.8 10yrs later! It’s refreshing to me, being that I’m an owner of a 2014 R-Spec model. Mine is a bit more modded but I love how rare the car is where I live.
    Nice video!👍🏽

I’ve daily driven a 2013 2.0t Premium for the past 6 years. Bought it with 21k miles and just hit 80k last week. I’m to the point where I can’t see myself driving anything else. It’s the perfect mix of style, comfort and reliability while also being really fun to drive everyday, easy to maintain, and CHEAP.
Not to mention the rarity of these cars in general, especially the bk2 2.0s which were only made for 2 years and never sold nearly as well as its competitors. It makes me want to put mine away and daily something different to see what these cars are worth in good shape in 5-10 years.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  6 місяців тому +2

Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! And yeah if you can afford to I'd hold onto it, the rarity is sure to make these more valuable eventually I'd think.

I own my dream car, a 2010 3.8 6-speed Genesis Coupe. It's an extremely fun, good-looking and underrated car, and the exhaust just sounds gnarly.
I feel like it could have been successful if it was easy to mod (which would make it appeal to tuners) or if they put their 4.6/5.0 V8 in it (to make it appeal to the muscle car crowd - and quite frankly, these cars deserved a V8). Hopefully it gets revived in some form in the near future.

The creaks are the various spot welds from the factory that needs to be fixed. The rattle is the shifter which you can fix with an aftermarket part. For the money it has crazy horsepower and fun as hell to drive. Can't really shift over 5500 rpms or you can get locked out. You need to completely turn off traction by pressing and holding the button for like 4-5 secs.

I test drove one of these ( and a Veloster RSpec, Scion FRS, Mustang Ecoboost, BMW 128i, MK7 GTI) in 2015. I had a budget of $25k. I drove an auto even though I was interested in (my first manual) and I decided against it because it had little power before 4k RPM. I ended up with a MK7 GTI but I still wonder how the Genesis would have been had I had experience staying in the powerband with a manual. Fun fact: I ended up trading in the GTI for a 2005 Mercedes C55 AMG.

Great video! I had a Veloster R Spec before my ND2, reminds me a lot of this Genesis. If the traction control modes is anything like my old Veloster, it is accessed by either pressing the traction off button or holding it for 3 seconds and then waiting for the beep. The 3 second hold is fully off, the single press is “half off” if I recall correctly.

It's DI from Hyundai's debut in DI implementation. Would not touch with a 10 ft pole no matter what anecdotes I see in this comments section.
OTOH it's pretty funny Hyundai needed an redesign and DI on that 3.8 to not lose face to the 3.7 VHR the competition was running... 😅

The front end ain’t it for me but you could always go aftermarket for that but other than it it looks really clean and it sounds good 👌

agreed. I remember a couple guys in my car club removed that big grille piece manually and it looked so much better. They had a full mesh look which you can buy aftermarket now.
