- A look at how I get that dirty tone without clipping. I usually record in 96KHZ but this time I recorded in 48KHZ for more grit. I'll show you how I record bass step by step. If you like that dirty sound check this video out.

This dude here... man you too funky and it's just cool that you take time to break it down and still prove that simple is funky. Pocket is just deep... basses are killing man, I'm gonna try and do all of this to get that exact sound.

I find Logic Pro nterface very user friendly when setting up many tracks, EQ and cutting, slicing, editing and even mixing! I notice for some songs, which pickups I use is now a big deal.
iv'e got two bartolinis and thew output is around the same volume, using one or both.
I never thought about this much before I got into playing funk.
it's pretty versatile for a preamp once I figure out how to use it, doh.

As a guitar player and a simple man, I don't take in much of the technicalities of the bass settings here. What I do take in is the funkin' bass - me loves it :-) Did you play on Lady Cab Driver? or was it Prince. I was reminded of that track when I listened.

I have 9 Basses and they're all different. One thing they all have in common is Low action. I like my strings to almost rattle lol... not quit however.

@@frawell410 i use flats on my jazz basses but round wound on some of my other basses. Flats are my main strings however 👍🏾

I'm curious, has this always been your style of play? I mean, has Prince's influence on your playing changed your style of play from before you met him? Seems like a silly question now, but...do you have any recordings of your playing before Prince?
I was 18 so don’t have recordings prior to 84 when I started working in studios. My style is a mixture of many influences. Prince didn’t necessarily influence my style but he influenced my ethic to work hard and not be afraid to express myself freely on my bass.

I listened to a lot of Graham, Clark and Bootsy, so I hear them when I play, I was unable to express myself freely, I just couldn't seem to find my own voice, I didn't take many solos.lol I played top 40, big band, real, fake book stuff. I was trying to understand if that reverse thumb thing you guys in Minneapolis do, is that Prince's, or is that just a style you guys have there? But now that I'm thinking about it, since he did a lot of the work recording, I guess that was his. He does it on the Time's first album as well as his own stuff. So, I'm sorry I wasted your time with that now. Thanks for the response though, I really enjoyed watching you on stage, you were on it. The playing, the singing and the moves, great work. And thanks for sharing your experience with this channel, I appreciate it, as I'm sure many others do as well.
