  • Goldleaf Jinhao 992 & Crewtone 20634 for Suman
    Suman has been writing to me for a long time now with a list of pens that she wants to acquire, wishing that I feature the same here so that she may decide which ones to pick up. Paying heed to her desire, I have featured two pens here that I specifically bought for shooting this video from Amazon.
    But before I ramble off, a rider. No two fountain pens are alike. No two people using them are alike either. Thus, the chance that the pen that I may consider as my go-to Goat pen, may not give you the same kind of pleasure. How you hold a pen, how much pressure you put on it, the paper that you write on, the climatic conditions that you are in, the kind of ink that you use, the amount of time the pen was lying inked but unused, are all factors impact its writing and through it, the way the pen makes you feel. Thus, I feel sad when I see people pass random judgements about fountain pens that they have hardly used, even based upon the opinion of others.
    My humble request to all of you is therefore simple - try the pen before you acquire it. Don’t go by what the experts say. And don’t frown upon your so-called cheap pen, just because you see someone flaunt an expensive one. If you like writing with the one that you possess, then it is certainly the best pen in the world.
    I personally feel that one’s relationship with a fountain pen is like the institution of marriage and that the success of the marriage depends upon the two parties acknowledging each other’s little quirks and working around them toward common goals. This is why I always try to work around the idiosyncrasies of the pens, paper, and inks that I use to obtain the best results, as opposed to trying to “force” the pen to fit into my grip and do my bidding. Try it, but be warned - it is not as easy as it sounds, it has taken me many decades to reach the level.
    Conventional wisdom tends to equate price with performance. Don’t get taken in by that, for I have come across fantastic fountain pens at very reasonable price points just like I have come across as duds after paying a fortune. I know that I am oversimplifying things here, but the fact remains: I will not get into a Faustian bargain and would rather learn how to maximise the performance of the pens that I have in my possession. And another thing, just because a fountain pen is affordable and originates from China does not make it bad ab initio.
    Suman hope you like the video. Keep writing. And if possible, please share this with your friends as we desperately need the numbers to keep going.

    My first pen was the Jinhao 992 and for what it is it's such a wonderful little workhorse. While I've evolved into more refined pens for my everyday use, I still keep one 992 inked up for use in the kitchen

    Sir I absolutely agree with your point. No two pens are identical. Even the same model of same company behaves differently. My personal experience. I have 3 Jinhao 86 fountain pens. All 3 are fine nibs. All three gave me different experience of writing.
    Good video. Keep it up sir.

    Chawm Uncle please make vdo on your watches। I'm a teen boy actually। But I love watching your vedios as your vedios are exception in pen reviewing community। Instead of talking about basic info you're always been talking about writing experience, journey of a company etc। Thats make the difference। Please please make more vedio on fountain pens। click, kanwrite, sulekha, asa, beena etc. Besides I'm waiting for your watch collection। HMT himalaya is very recommendable watch And I recommend it you to wear.

    I am confused between these two pls clear which should i buy. Pilot 74 vs sailor 1911 standard both in extra fine.

      all pens have their pros and cons. before you buy either, i suggest that you physically try out both and buy the one you like. dont go by the opinion of others :)

    At 06:29 you say that you get used to the pen instead of forcing the pen getting used to you.
    Does that mean you write with any fountain pen in stock condition i.e. not modifying it's nib tip and tines to change smoothness or ink flow etc?
    And if a pen doesn't write according to your preferences do you still use it? Because in the long term the experience won't be good according to me. Also your handwriting will be affected if you are adjusting to every new pen.

    • @inkedhappiness
      @inkedhappiness  2 місяці тому

      you raise very valid points. but i have seen that over time and long bouts of writing, it is possible to get used to the quirks of a pen. and no. i normally dont fiddle with the factory settings.

    • @briandsouza7854
      @briandsouza7854 2 місяці тому +1

      @inkedhappiness Understood.
      In that case if a pen is faulty (scratchy nib which tears paper or ink flow that skips), you get a replacement/sent it back to the retailer/manufacturer?
      Also do you always try a fountain pen before buying especially when it's expensive?
      And last one, if you finally found your one pen in which everything is perfect. You then buy 2-3 more but it's not the same as your original purchase then what do you do?

    • @inkedhappiness
      @inkedhappiness  2 місяці тому +1

      @@briandsouza7854 yes. i normally send back pens that are faulty. but that is only in extreme situations. i do prefer testing the pen before buying - caveat emptor, you know :) like i said, no two pens are the same and just because you like one, there is no guarantee that its siblings will act the same :)
