- Is this the very best lawn mower? After 9 years of ownership I think it is and here is my LONG TERM review of my own Honda Izy HRG466. I called it the GCV160 in the video but that's the engine model number not the machine model number!
It has a 4 stroke OHC 147cc engine that runs on 4 star petrol so there is no messing around measuring 2 stroke oil to add to the petrol. I highly recommend it for an accomplished and reliable machine.

I’ve had 3 Honda mowers over tha last 30 years or so and they never go wrong (in my experience), I’ve only changed them when I’ve moved house and needed a different model type (different gardens). Terrific VFM.
日本人です、USホンダ製HR173使ってますがかなり古くなりましたがフィルターとプラグ以外交換した事、故障したことはありません
値段に惑わされずホンダを買うことが最良の選択だと思います
Yes I agree, don't be put off by the price. It's good that your Honda is still working well.
Thank you to you and your twin brother for sharing, great video.
We are both pleased you enjoyed it!
Great video, excellent review. Thank you.
Thanks very much. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
I just bought one of these used, an old model. Does wonders compared to the electric Tesco one my mum had bought. After a lot of research, I knew I had to buy a Honda or mountfield.
Dear John, thank you on this beautiful video. After I see it, I buy my all new Honda Easy lawn mower. Must say, it is fantastic machine.
Thank you for your very kind comment and I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Enjoy your lawn mower and don't forget to subscribe!
@@JohnTheHandymanUK of course! Best regards.
I had an old Honda which I inherited from my father, but recently I had to replace it because it was old (20 years old) and many parts failed beyond repair. I Bought an Izy, and I'm kinda satisfied with it. It's lighter, consumes less petrol and still does a great job !
That's great. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Izy reliability. I run mine on an ethanol fuel, not petrol from the filling station. No horrid fumes, and the fuel won't deteriorate over time, like over winter. Aspen 4 or the Husqvarna equivalent are great.
Nice video John, thank you. I’ll be buying one soon! Subbed 👍
Thank you and enjoy it. Mine must be ten years old now. I've heard some people say that the steel base rusts. I brush the grass off after every use and spray with a lubricant intended for hedge trimmers. It supposedly breaks down the grass and green stuff. So far despite some surface rust there are no holes at all.
I have a 536 HRD, 26 years old, 1 pull and it starts, VERY low maintenance 🙂
Nooice!
I have a 536 HRD from 1996, one pull and it starts :-) Greetings from Belgium.
They are great, aren't they? Thanks for commenting, and I hope you enjoyed the video. It was fun to edit!
@@JohnTheHandymanUK How old is your IZY, and automatic choke always works?
@Tintoycar I think it is now 10 years old and the choke is working just fine. It's so reliable.
Just to clarify, the model number of these Izy mowers is HRG466. You mentioned GVC160- this refers to the fitted engine only. They are great mowers, I've used one commercially for five years. Always starts first time!
Yes you are correct, thanks for putting me straight.
Someone asked me if the rubber strip prevents the mower from being pulled backwards and is it easy to manoeuvre. The answers are no it doesn't and the mower is very easy to manoeuvre.
Thanks papa figure !!!
Ageed they are really reliable robust machines, very little plastic parts like others. Mine has lasted 10 years but now rusted through. the deck is what lets it down, i imagine they make them from poor quality steel so you have to buy a new one because i have had no fault other than this. i have just ordered another one the same.
Yes I've heard the deck can rust after around ten years. I guess it takes quite a pounding from stones and grass. It's a question of keeping it clean and not let grass and deposits build up and so retain moisture. After every use I brush the inside of the deck and then spray with Agealube hedgetrimmer spray lubricant with resin solvent. It seems to be doing a decent job.
Brilliant video. Can I still attach the grass bag to the lawnmower with the mulching plug inserted because I cut and collect and mulch for different customers in the same area (round)?
Thanks and pleased you enjoyed it. No, with the mulching plug inserted it block the exit of the grass into the grass box. Without the plug fitted it won't mulch the grass as the plug keeps the cuttings swirling around for longer, and so they are cut finer.
@@JohnTheHandymanUK but can I place the bag on back of the lawnmower so it gives illusion to a customer that I am cutting and collecting and not mulching. I do it with my other machines where I put the mulching plug in the back and then put the bag back on to the lawnmower.
@@cosworthization Ah yes I see what you mean. Yes you can put the bag on the back with the mulching plug inserted.
@@JohnTheHandymanUK BRILLIANT thank you.
Hi I have a Honda izy easy start I have an issue with it it keeps surging I have taken off the carburettor and cleaned the jets and needles and everything else so I put it back together runs amazing for 10 minutes then the surging starts again can you help thanks
Hi, I'm sorry but I can't help you with your problem. It's not something I've heard of. Is there a fuel filter? Maybe it's blocked and needs cleaning or replacing. You are probably best to take it to a dealer who does servicing, buy maybe ask their advice first. I hope that you can solve the problem.
Is the Honda 416sk fast enough do you think?
I'd say it's fast enough. I believe the 416SK is a little quicker than my machine, which is a nice walking pace.
Hello John, NIce review! Question: How loud is it? I have not much grass, and bought an honda 4 stroke brush cutter with removable parts (hedge trimmer, chainsaw and leaf blower and other things. Now some neighbour complained a bout the sound of it (?). Nasty man! Now i like to buy this lawn mower to please him a little bit more hahahaha. NO, serious, is it loud?
Hello, I think it says it is 97dB on the machine, but I'm not at home so can't check. I wouldn't say it overly loud. No petrol lawnmower is particularly quiet as far as I know. It's not a high-pitched sound like a hedge cutter so I'd buy it, as its great, and just try and use it when you think your neighbour will be less troubled by it! You say your lawn is small so just buy it.
@@JohnTheHandymanUK thanks for reply John. I will think about it!
I use this model in my gardening business.I keep them for 3 years, then replace with same model.None have ever broke down.I use them for my small estate lawns.Sometimes doing 14 lawns a day.Only downside is cheap plastic wheel bearings, which will wear out.I replace mine with proper bearings. Some hondas now,you can pay £740 for an hrn,and its has plastic bearings, which cannot be changed anymore ???
That's good to hear. I know of two gardeners who use a Honda Izy. It's interesting to hear about the wheel bearings but not good if they can't be replaced now. 🙂
Which model?
Cast deck is about the best simply does not rust My lawn mower is getting on for Forty years old ( not Honda ) with a Briggs engine
Certainly stronger than plastic, and if looked after, they will last a long time.
Seems legit
Which model is this
It's the HRH 466 I think. The model is written in the video's description.
Terrible for corrosion.. the Izy 16" model..seems to corrode a lot quicker than other models..must use a cheaper grade of steel for the pressing..definitely puts me off buying one.
Yes they can rust but mine at 8 years old only has minor surface rust. I do brush any wet grass off and spray with a biodegradable Agealube hedge trimmer spray lubricant with resin solvent after every use. This seems to be helping. I'm sure they will last longer than most mowers though.
Bit of a shame the actual cutting was speeded up.
Wish it lasted 20 years!! But Mines is probably just 10 years but now stopping all the time even after a service 😥
Oh dear that's a shame. I'd say you've been very unlucky. Has it had a lot of use, more than might be normal?
Because of your Video I've decided not to give up on my Honda Lawnmower & have faith. So I've given it to repair. Will get a sonic clean of the carburettor. Hopefully that'll give it new long lasting life 👍
@@razakmanify Is it ok now?
@@Tintoycar its working better now thanks, I've just made adjustments in the way i use it for instance don't cut too low to the ground & the mower's performance seems to be improving, have a large garden use to stop halfway & resume the next day but now do it in one go since adjusted the height. Hopefully it continues to improve & last me another 10 years atleast
@@razakmanify Good luck! Honda makes 2 types of lawnmowers: commercial use and non commercial use. The commercial ones are bullet proof and the non commercial ones are very good 🙂
" i love " my issi " ( will last reliable version easy start less fuel ! The little " bugger wont give up !" ) laugh 😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣
That's great. I love mine too . It's about 10 years old now and runs so well. 😊
