    Boy am I glad I clicked into this show. What a fantastic little sitcom! Bonnie's great, as are most of the cast, and the writing and delivery of lines is top grade. Shoulda been a hit!

      I watched an old interview of her and Tom Snyder. She said all her TV shows were improvised to some extent.

    The weekly Nielsen ratings for "The Building":
    * Episode 1 (August 20, 1993): 8.0/16, 11.1 million viewers, 50th out of 84.
    * Episode 2 (August 27, 1993): 4.9/9, 6.9 million viewers, 81st out of 86.
    * Episode 3 (September 3, 1993): 5.4/11, 7.9 million viewers, 81st out of 91.
    * Episode 4 (September 10, 1993): 5.3/10, 7.2 million viewers, 85th out of 89.
    * Episode 5 (September 17, 1993): 5.2/10, 7.1 million viewers, 85th out of 89.
    It had an average 5.8/11 rating/share and 8.04 million average viewers. By today’s standards, that would easily be enough for renewal, but by 1993 standards, no Big 3 network show had a chance to survive.

      Probably for sexist portrayal of women. We don't realise, but a lot of the stuff we consumed in the 90s/00s was actually feminist stuff. Like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. As boys we'd have never thought twice about it, but the adult female cast were determined to make it a respectable thing for all the girls. And they did in a really good way, cos you don't even notice it.
      But anyway, my point is this stuff has been going in for longer than you realise. I'd wager this was cancelled cos it goes against the general feminist message that was being spread

    What a great, little show. Smart and quick writing, with a massive amount of attention to detail in the writing, timing and physical blocking. Very much a theater performance with cameras. You could see a lot of I Love Lucy and Honeymooners influence.
    I have to imagine this was a massively personal project for Bonnie ... in terms of wanting to produce something she loved, achieve something grand, and in content. Although you can see why it wasn't particularly commercial.
    Dave's scene was hilarious.

    38:13 - I'll bet the only way David Letterman agreed to appear in this was that he remain anonymous throughout the whole episode which included wearing the mask the entire time, and being listed as only "The Thief" in the ending credits.

      If people who have watched much improv are honest, they will admit that the moments of brilliance bookend long stretches of dull and often cringey nothingness. There's a reason why scripts are written and rehearsals are held.
