A little grease trivia for you! Olivia took her shoes off when she was on the hill cause she kept slipping off the hill thats why she almost tripped when she ran down. Also the reason why Marty wasnt dancing in the big contest scene is cause she was the only one in the cast that didn't know how to dance so thats why shes near the camera
Olivia Newton-John held an auction with her old clothes including her Grease costumes to raise money for her Cancer battling charity (being a survivor of cancer herself). Someone donated an unbelievable amount of money for her black leather outfit, and then gave it back to her (without asking for the money back) because they said they couldn't imagine anyone else wearing it apart from her.
MOVIES IN DEPTH, Kenickie didn’t forget her name when they were fooling around in the car. She told him to call her by her first name. Her first name is Betty and her last name is rizzo. Her birth name is Betty Rizzo. Elvis was a choice for the teen angel When Rizzo (the character) says “Elvis, let me be.” That scene was filmed on the day Elvis died When Kenickie says “ a hickey from Kenickie is like a hallmark card” the actor actually gave the actress for rizzo a hickey so she didn’t need makeup to make the hickey. The leather pantsuit sandy wears at the end. She had to be sewn into it Sandy is originally just from a different state but Olivia couldn’t do an English accent like the producers wanted so they made Sandy Australian
I have such an emotional attachment to this movie. My parents met in a local production of the play. Originally Danny took ChaCha to the dance and ditched her for Sandy. They sanitized the story a lot from the play, and removed a couple songs and subplots.
I remember one Christmas year where I watched The Greatest Showman when they released Encanto and 2021 West Side Story simultaneously. That year was magical for me cuz it made me admit my love for musicals and stop hiding it because my family doesn't share it. And my musical marathon has only begun.
9:26 Apparently the original lyrics were "No, oh no Sal Mineo! I would never stoop so low!". Apparently Elvis died the same week they were shooting that scene so they gave their own little tribute to him by changing the lines to "Elvis! Elvis let me be! Keep that pelvis far from me!"
This is one of the few teen romance musicals that actually works for me because it's so fun and campy. I actually didn't watch this until high school when my dramma class was trying to decide what play to do. The main romance definitely didn't age all that well, but the humor and the way the characters interact with each other are what really sell it for me. "Greased Lightning" and "Hopelessly Devoted to You" are my personal favorite songs.
My dad hated John Travolta and would whine every time the family wanted to see a movie he was in, for most of my entire life. I finally asked him why when I was in my early 20s. His answer? He just always hated Danny Zuko. hahaha This man hated this fictional character for something like 30+ years!!🤣😂🤣
Thinking of going the full way? Grease Grease 2 Grease Live! Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (it's been saved, though it's not for streaming yet, been brought to Apple TV and to Amazon (they still charge by the episode though), due for a DVD release in November.
As kids my sisters and I made my uncle who always looked like a Greaser do a Grease performance with us for our parents. I was Kenickie, was doing the greasee comb through the hair thing, got it stuck and had to cut my hair off.
I was dating this guy when I was 17, he was 25 (yes, I know) and very well versed in anything 50s and 60s, including being the best swing dancer in town. He and I were dancing at a party one night to "You're The One That I Want", and he was confused as to why I didn't sing Sandy's parts. When I told him that I'd never watched Grease, he immediately let go of me, went to grab a sharpie and wrote "WATCH GREASE" on my arm. Then he put on something else and we kept dancing. When I got home to my mom and sister the next day, I told them that I'd never seen the movie. They were appalled, and my mom put it on Netflix immediately. I sat up all night ordering 60s dresses from Ebay. My obsession with anything and everything 60s has stayed with me for what's now a decade. People can point and prod at things in this movie that aren't "politically correct" (there are RED flags tho) all day, but there's no denying that this movie is, and will continue to be, a timeless classic.
13:06 Yeah but apart from the looks at the bonfire and the way they were waiting for his answer when's he invited him to meet her parents, I don't think Kenicke, Putzie, Doody or Sonny had any trouble with Danny being with Sandy. Like you said, she's a babe, what else do they car about
Apparently there's a theory that both Sandy & Danny died at the beach. They mention the lyrics from Summer Nights where he says "I saved her life she nearly drowned." And that they actually did drown and this is all like a fever dream or something like that. Which is why they go up in the sky at the end. Idk 🤷🏽♀
I remember doing dance class when I was younger and there was one year where the dance recital’s theme was Movie and Broadway Musicals. My dance mates and I danced to “Greased Lightning” (the original Broadway recording) and we got to wear pretty pink costumes that had little poodles embroidered on them. We also made our entrances and exits to the stage by driving little Barbie jeeps. ❤
1. I worked at a three theatre movie group and this is one of which is a drive-in. Yes it was like that. Sometimes moving from car to car. 2. Also, "Up in Smoke", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Saturday Night Fever". 3. This was a great movie to take your honey to. I was in High School. 4. These songs kill for karaoke (especially Summer Lovin') 5. Marty/Diana Manoff is my honey😍😋 6. The last song was the curtain call. 7. "I'll give you 35c for the whole car, including your chick". 🤣 8. If you don't dig the all-star cast it's on you🙄 9. RIP ONJ 😭😇
Oddly enough the only movie I've seen Sandra Dee in was the 50s version of 'Imitation of Life' (it'd been a black and white movie in the 30s) which actually discussed things like racism. Sandra Dee's character is a teenager in love with an older man who is clearly in love with her mother and she mistakes him just being friendly with her for something more, plus she's got issues with her mum because her mum's a famous stage actress and so hasn't been around as much as she would've liked. The racism issue comes in int he form of their African-American housekeeper and family friend - her is fair skinned enough to "pass for white", so if anyone asks her she is white and will even deny her own mother in front of others if it means she'll be able to further convince everyone that she's white.
Actually, because this was set in the 1950s, schools were still segregated (sadly), so that might be an explanation for why there were no black kids at Rydell. Come to think of it, there might have been objections to there being one black guy in Johnny Casino and the Gamblers band at the dance (played by Sha Na Na) at that time. In the original Broadway musical, I think the blonde kid had his own subplot. He was working on writing his own song called "Those Magic Changes". They play it in the background in the movie, and it's performed by Sha Na Na in its entirety on the soundtrack album. They also included it on Grease Live on TV (Aaron Tveit played Danny, Julianne Hough was Sandy, Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical was Rizzo, Carlos PenaVega from Big Time Rush was Kenickie, Carly Rae Jepsen of Call Me Maybe fame was Frenchy, Mario Lopez from Saved By the Bell was Vince Fontaine, and Eve Plumb- Jan from the Brady Bunch was the shop teacher). Marty also has her own song in the stage musical (on the soundtrack) where she sings about one of her GI pen pals, "Freddy My Love". There were several other songs that were deleted or replaced from the stage musical. In the original stage version, Kenicie was the one to sing Greased Lightning since it was his car, but the movie director thought Travolta needed to be featured in another song.
With the diner date scene, I did actually believe Danny when he said he wanted some privacy 😂😂 y'all saw what his obnoxious friends did. To be fair though, he could've taken her somewhere else
