The first part of a short lived franchise was only available for the N64. Compared to the sequels this game was rather slow. There was no sound barrier effect yet. There is a super bike you can unlock but you cannot unlock new leagues with it.. so I only used it to show the secret track at the end.
Here is the Longplay of part 3 for the Gamecube :

Surprised you thought this game was slow...I thought XG2 was much slower paced, boring even.

@@superresistant0 I played the PC version back then which didnt have these slowdowns

This game was not slow, in fact the speed of it was partly a reason why the PS1 could not run it, also the tracks was surprisingly high poly count at some location. That was a game that only the 64 could run that fluid even not the PC, not in 97, in 98 it could have ran it like with XG2.

Also, there are 2 bike to unlock then an extra mini race that can also be played as an arena. Both game got 3 leagues.
I think it still the best Extreme G game, there some interesting element in the XG2 like the sound barrier, and some weapon, like the proximity mine and notably the Leader Missile and the fact that bike can be destroyed. But I remember the first time I played how I felt that the feeling was too much different and less smooth, the music is very boring unlike the XG1 music that became a stapple of the XG style.
XG3 was a fail cause it no more feel like XG, they overdone it with the speed and lenght of the racetrack which make most weapon unusable cause it need too much precision, it still an interesting game but that like an hardcore XG, very hard. Where it finally return to it root, with the right feel and music etc it with XGRA which is a very complete XG game, using the best of all the other 3, mostly the first with some element of the 2nd.

In the late 90's, their was an arcade/bar/skate park in NYC called "Too Much Is Not Enough" for techno clubbers.
The club was featured in the movie Hackers.
The club had a huge screen with arcade style controls for an N64 setup with giant speakers.
I played this game at that club so much in my mid 20's. The game had the feel/style of the club itself.
Being at the club, in NYC, made you feel like you were at the central tech hub of the world.

I played all the Extreme-G games across the N64 and GCN platforms, this one is still my favorite. Only reason I ever tried it is because my sister got this game on a whim for her birthday one year. She had no idea what the game was about, but saw futuristic motorcycles on the cover and was like "this game! I want this as my present!" and the rest is history haha

Man if they remade this game with next gen systems and kept that old school feel n music I'd be hooked for the next year or so

Now you can play it on the switch with online membership, you have to have the premium one though so you can play N64 games, you also be able to play game boy advance games as well so it's worth it plus the Snes, nes, and gb games. I remember playing this and my brother and I thought the lens flare from the sun was so cool, and realistically for that time it was.

The gameplay is good, but the soundtrack is really awesome

    • @RetroGameSpacko
      @RetroGameSpacko 5 років тому +1

especially because it is a tracker music format since the N64 didn't have enough space for complete music tracks. The whole game's soundtrack takes less than 500kb!!

This game helped me getting into techno/trance/whatever.
At first it was too fast.
    Waaay to fast.
Little did I know that eventually I shall become so amazingly good that I shall have the impression of it not being much faster than Mario Kart 64 on 150cc.

This was my favorite of all the Extreme-Gs. It seemed to move more smoothly in my eyes than Extreme-G2, and it had weapons that could be picked up off the track, unlike Extreme-G3.
