  • ‪@AreaDieselService‬ has partnered up with ‪@C_CEQUIPMENT‬ to investigate the DB2 Stanadyne 4-cylinder injection pump off a John Deere 455E Track Loader they are bringing back to life.
After an engine rebuild. it was running like a Deere - but not for long - the Track Loader started to lack power and have white smoke after a good warm up run.
‪@C_CEQUIPMENT‬ of Nashville, Indiana went back into the shop, pulled the pump and sent the likely suspect to Area Diesel Service, Inc in Carlinville, Illinois for our diesel experts to dive into the pump.
We brought in our Pump Technician, Corey Gracey (who some may recognize from our pump collaboration with ‪@WatchWesWork‬) to guide us through the highly-detailed, hours-long complete process that includes: assessment, external clean up, disassembly, internal parts clean up, reassembly, calibration and testing, paint job, then on its way back to ‪@C_CEQUIPMENT‬.
Watch this injection pump come back to life as a rebuilt, repaired, remanufactured functional injection pump.

Greetings from No VT - I have been following Clint and his rebuild on the 455 and came over to see the detail of the injector pump work. I am really impressed with the detail and your process. Clint had to be trilled with the bill, given a new pump right now would be pushing 2 grand (or more in these crazy times). It is a pleasure to see your level of professionalism. Best wishes and hopefully more people will see the value of professional rebuilds rather than cheap foreign aftermarket knockoffs that seem to be flooding the market.

That pump has as many parts in it as a carburetor has. A lot of people think that overhauling a carb is no big thing & probably the same goes for the injection pump-this requires a cetain finese & special ability. Keep up the good work & special ability that you & not a lot a of people have.

I got my stanadyne to free up after a decade of sitting by blowing compressed air backwards through the lines going to the injectors. I also filled the feed lines with seafoam and WD-40, also heated the pump and tapped it with a hammer while turning the engine over and blowing the air, it was tricky to do all that at once but I did and it worked. 💯

It was with great pleasure that I followed the analysis and recovery of the pump for the full two hours. But as mentioned earlier, the purchase of a (faster working) automatic focus of the camera is a must. It is very disturbing that the manual work cannot be fully followed because the person behind the camera turns the focus in the wrong direction. But otherwise, keep up the great work with these very interesting videos. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I would add it is always good practice to physically check the fuel pressure to the injection pump both before removal and after reinstall. These rotary pumps are particularly sensitive to fuel pressure since it effects the timing as well.

Great video and commentary about of the FIP teardown, inspection, repair, rebuild, and cal stand process. You might want to include some future discussion about fuel injection nozzle opening pressure and spray hole pattern, and why non-flammable diesel fuel injection calibration fluid (Viscor) is used during FIP recalibration instead of actual diesel fuel. Fantastic service, yourdepth of knowledge is very impressive. The technician that perfomed the work has laser focused attention to detail. So many pieces when a pump is all dismantled. I watch C&C Equipment all the time. I am now a new subject to your channel. Mark. I live in Everett Pa and work in the Bakken oilfield in ND. Thank You

Good video, great explanation of the work as it was being carried out. Can I suggest that a few close up still shots of the worn part split screened with the replacement part might help get over the fine tolerances these pumps run with.

Boy does that bring back memories, I worked in the Stanadyne product development lab from '83 - '88.
Got to work with a lot of stuff from different customers al using Stanadyne pumps of one version or another, some of which never made it out of the lab.

Thanks for the ride down memory lane. I used to rebuild all of the RoosaMaster, DB2, etc style pumps at Lakes Fuel Injection in NH. My dad did the electronic DS pumps for the 6.5's, and we both worked for my uncle. 99% of the specs and parts was on microfiche =]
I may have missed it, but I hope he did the injectors also.

My JD 450C, with a 4219 turbocharged engine has a problem. The fuel return fitting (on the pump) occasionally plugs with trash and shuts down the machine. I replaced the filter but still plugs with trash. Is there something in the pump that is deteriorating and clogging the pump? Thanks!
