- We've got ourselves involved in a unique one here, a pump reman and injector replacement for a "while we're at it" engine overhaul project!
Diesel Creek's Matt is in the process of upgrading his 1980 AutoCar ConsTrucktor from it's equipped Cummins Small Cam rated Engine to the over-the-road standby Cummins Big Cam Engine! Going from approximately 230 HP rated engine to a customized Big Cam rated around 400 HP.
The Facebook Marketplace #CumminsBigCam engine came from a rollover and Matt's deep into the engine swap making sure it all goes back together perfectly! So, "while were at it" lets make sure the PT pump is in top shape. @AreaDieselService is also supplying a new set up PT injectors as well as an engine overhaul kit for this collaborative project!
Story has it, this Autocar ConsTrucktor was a service rig for the fabled mining monster - the Silver Spade shovel! (Silver Spade footage from - @miningshorts - • The Silver Spade - The... )

I know that the guy building the pump was camera shy, but thank him for allowing you to film his work. He is very talented.
He did a very good job despite being camera shy!!
He gave us an excellent explaination and view of the proces.. his face wouldn't add anything to this video.. wouldn't even call it camera shy this way.
I hope he is aware of how much his talent is appreciated. Such a joy to watch someone who is so expert in their field.
I think this skilled worker has no need to worry about AI or a robot replacing him anytime in our lifetime.
The guy in this video perfectly exemplifies what knowledge, skill, and experience can accomplish if used intelligently. Great work, great video.
Thanks for watching!
Area Diesel is fortunate to have such talented employees.
...Agreed !!!
Agree 100%!!!
Worth their weight in gold I would think!
Pay em' well!
We all have some skills, but clearly there are those that have tuned their skill set to a much higher level. Nice to watch a 'Skilled' operator doing their thing...
You have some real masters down there. They take pride in their work and you don't see much of that anymore.
Excellent presentation on the full process of rebuilding a PT pump! I enjoy seeing professionals doing it the right way.
at least matt didnt send you a basket case this time.
Between you, Matt, and Sam I’m learning more about diesels than I ever thought I should know. And I love it. Keep it up.
Don't forget Mr. Clint at C+C Equipment !!!...Mr. Curt knows them too !!😃...
and C&C Equipment
It's really nice to see somebody "rebuilding" a part instead of tossing it in the a landfill and replacing the entire component!
another excellent description of the innerworkings of complex device. :)
I'm just amazed how complex such a relatively small engine component is. The expertise of your team is amazing! Great video!
Thank you very much!
What's more impressive imho is that many of these pumps were designed with little to no CFD.. Amazing mechanical wonders.
Don't ever mess with that! unless you want to. Words to live by.
Area Diesel to the rescue! Good to see you guys working with Matt once again, love watching the pros get it done.
The tech should get on camera. He'd be a rock star.
What a Great team! Most won't get the deep details. Easy to watch and I like each one I see - it's a grin for me.😄
Finishing up a Cummins pump with a CAT shirt on. Wow a kick in the pants lol.
Everyone has their own comfort level for being filmed. That being said, please pass on to the tech that I appreciate the knowledge and ability he has and showed. Of course, I would expect no less from Area Diesel Service 😊. Respect and cheers from Vancouver, Canada!
Absolutely LOVED the comment "But don't ever mess with that... Unless you want to"
(You even gave Matt a 'ballpark' of how MUCH to 'mess with it'. i.e. a full turn is a BUNCH, so go half / quarter turn!)
Customers are human... And Matt is 'more human' than most!
Love this s&it. Much better than TV.
Who needs TV??
They are probably happy to get a pump from Matt in one piece
Take my hat off to guys who can do this like they are making a cup of coffee - skilled tradesmen
Well done all. You showed what needs to be done to get pump back to factory quality. Also showed us in detail what to do, and why, and what not to do, and why. Great quality everywhere in knowledge, skill, workmanship and parts. Camera shy fellow did an excellent job and you can certainly see see this is not his first rodeo. He can remember exactly what part goes where and in what sequence. I am not in that league, though I have been trying for many years. Can get all the bits together and working just fine but many times it is one step forward and two steps back because I got something out of sequence. It is a bit far to send you any of my stuff (I am in Land Down Under) but for anyone in your neck of the woods, would certainly recommend ADS. 72 yr supposedly retired mechanic/machinist/welder/fabricator etc. Still have a 16M x 8M shed at home with lots of toys in it 'cause neighbours and others bring me stuff - they say they want to stave off dementia in me - haha. They certainly challenge me regularly.
I knew nothing about these pumps. What an incredibly tedious process. Fun to watch pros doing their thing. Appreciate showing all this detail. I now know enough to know why everyone sends their stuff to you.
Thanks for the extensive narrative.
Thanks for listening
Professionalism all over !! 👏👏
HE MAKES IT LOOK LIKE A WALK IN THE PARK . I THINK ONE COULD SAY HE HAS DONE ONE OR TWO OF THEM 😂😂
Hello from the UK, having driven a fair few Cummings powered trucks in my 46 year career, I learned so much about the fuel injection pumps fitted to the two big cam engines fitted to British ERF trucks I once drove back in the day. Absolutely fascinating viewing and expertly narrated too, you both made it totally understandable. I shall look forward to seeing this on Matt's rebuilt engine. Well done to Area Diesel for this vid.
🎉very interesting the things you guys do to bring all this old stuff back to working condition. I'm glad Matt showed us who and what you do so we can watch the action. Thank you for all you do and thank you for showing us.
That was very interesting.
Watching the technician work his craft knowing that he’s just rebuilt the heart ❤️ of the engine it will serve has to be very satisfying and he certifies ✍️ it to be on spec… Good job Sir 👍🇺🇸
Curtis, don’t sell yourself short, you did an excellent job explaining the process 👏
Can’t wait to hear the AutoCar come to life.
Thank you !
It’s no wonder Matt speaks so highly about “Area Diesel Service”
You guys rock, you do a great job of explaining what the heck is going on. I found you through Matt (Diesel Creek) and Mike from (Dirt Perfect). You guys do great work and I enjoy your videos.😊😊
Awesome content and support graphics……. Thank you
Thanks Matt
Always love to see stuff from ADS
And a big thumbs up to the talented team at Area Diesel Service for your expertise and entertaining content 👍
Our pleasure!
Love the 3D animated graphics as Curtis, at the parts counter, identifies numerous internal components while pointing/touching the various 'knobs' outside of the Cummins mfg PT injector pump. The graphics & EZ to follow explination was worth the $1500 just to watch & listen! 'Ole Matt (Diesel Creek) gotta love your ADS total rebuild, calibration/testing, new injectors, paint & Swag! Another very professional presentation! 💪👍✅️😊🍺
Hi fascinating to see these pumps repaired I had a big cam in my leyland roadtrain here in the uk rated at 320 bhp and it went like a sewing machine it’s great to see your man rebuild this pt pump he’s great to watch let’s see more of his work he’s a star keep up the brilliant work best regs Howie in the uk 👍
1:05:50 "Don't ever mess with that (screw), unless you want to." Love you guys!
Thanks for doing these
More to come!
Informative. How a PT pump works in a nutshell. Thanks!!!😊❤
thank you so much, man you are awesome
A diesel injection pump that reliably functions with accuracy and precision for years of hard use with minimal maintenance simply by virtue of its excellent mechanical design and build quality impresses me more than its equivalent run by a computer. Once again, you guys impress me with your knowledge and skill. I will not hesitate to give ADS a call when I find an old M1008 6.2 Squarebody to work on.
Great watching experter.
Always informative !!...Great rebuild !!....
Absolutely phenomenal video. Now I know the rest of the story of the Cummins PT pump.
THANK YOU
Love you guys created a channel and film this stuff. Fun community of gearheads
He sure makes that look easy.
I'm thinking there is a pretty good learning curve on those.
Thanks for this video. Well made and explained and it gives the customer appreciation for all the work required for the rebuild.
I need to get mine serviced next week. Currently running a 400 Cummins in a K123 Kenworth Cab over 1976 vintage. Truck runs like a charm.
Cheers from Australia.
Excellent work. Really impressive. Enjoyed the comment " don't ever mess with that, unless you want to"
Another great video ! Thanks for sharing !👍
Thanks for watching!
Not all heroes wear capes…
THUMBS UP on Area Diesel Service where EVERYTHING seems to be possible.
Thank you area diesel service for the video. ❤
Thanks for showing the details of rebuilding a fuel injection pump. Very interesting for all of us that don't see these that often. I know that you folks have a very reputation, ive heard about you guys from several different sources.
Oh I almost forgot about Clinton from C & C Equipment, he has mentioned you as well.😊
Remember when you were a kid, and you'd catch a Jetsons/Flintstones crossover on the ol' rabbit ears? This is like that, but much better. Really cool that Matt's truck comes from such a neat place and job, and rad that you're able to help get the rig going again.
Job well done the man knows how to make sure the customer will be pleased 👍😎🇺🇸 NY
@1:06:24 "Don't ever mess with that... unless you want to". Wonderful :D
Dont ever mess with this, unless you want to! Brilliant. Thanks Curtis.
Thanks for the step by step, and please pass thanks to the tech that let us shoulder-surf!
I enjoy watching you guys work. Awesome. I know without a doubt that if I have anything diesel related, I am going to you guys.
Fantastic. Thanks for all you do. Rockin it in Carlinville!
Great job guys, can't wait to see Matt get this project done and hauling some equipment.
Matt needs to learn how to pack a pump. Yes I'm the lunatic that sent the Kubota pump in a hard case, surrounded by foam in a double cardboard box
Great vid, clear description of the work througout and good clarification. Keep it up!
Confident professionals sharing their trade and passion. Thanks for sharing such detailed videos. Your precision and care is awesome to watch!
You should get that poor guy his own press!
Totally appreciate how you explain everything. Love the diagrams and graphs and everything yall put into this video!!
Mr camera shy is a absolute beast excellent work my friend
It's just incredible the knowledge your company has
Pure professionalism on this channel!
I remember an old saying if it ain't turning it ain't burning
That was a very informative video and I enjoyed it very much, you guys do such great work on the pumps that everyone that I watch is very pleased with your work and I will highly recommend your company to anyone having problems. Next I'll be watching Matt put his Cummins back together with your freshly rebuilt PT Pump and PT Injectors.
Fantastic explanation with the supporting animation
I was looking forward to this one.
I'll bet Matty is gonna enjoy this video at least as much as I did! You guys are absolute gurus! This pump is gonna run like a Swiss watch on Matty's autocar! Thanks for making such a professional video, & doing such a professional job!
Great work gents, excellent collaboration with diesel creek!
My NTA420 small cam put 612 to the tires back in the 90s. It has been doing that ever since hauling grain at 80k plus pounds no issues. Keep rail pressure below 300 and things should be ok.
Well done. Thanks 😊
Man I really dug this video and how informative it is
This is a great video. Thanks.
Super cool video!
Great video.
Thanks for supporting Matt!
Fantastic video.
A great job guys
Great rebuild and loved the mention of the "HOLD MY BEER SCREW"
Brilliant video.
VERY WELL DONE VIDEO GUYS!
Great vid.
Great video. Love watching old school component rebuilds
I still think the ConsTrucktor is a disguised Decepticon.
Had to support diesel creek. Love seeing you guys collaborate on rebuilds.
Fantastic job ! I worked on diesel’s engines a lot being a forklift mechanic for 50 + years everything but stripping down a pump , great video after all there years , but now retired! LOL
Great info this guy's great at this job
Wow a master at his craft
Great job guys! Another well put together, and very informative video. It does the heart good to see that people still take pride in their workmanship! Keep up the great work!
Great job great explanation great video thanks Curtis and crew
Very informative video, thanks ;) Cheers Ray ( UK)
I admire this sort of mechanical expertise. These guys can build anything.
Outstanding job!!! If I ever needed work done you’d definitely be on my speed dial. Stay safe
Outstanding video! I am subscribed to Matt and watch all his work. The knowledge in your shop must be crazy. It would be a great place to hang out and just help out where needed. Drive on and be safe out there.
Awesome video . I hope to see him install it soon and get it running
