    Looks like a great machine, granted its expensive but if it does auto supports that is a game changer. Truely a point, click and print machine with good prints. I know you can use third party resins as you did in another video but its a shame there is no ability to tweak exposure settings. They could increase the build plate size - still have a lot of room in the vat; so making a bigger build plate wouldn't be too much of a hassle to do. Still an awesome machine. I have the Saturn 3 ultra and was close to getting the Uniformation GKtwo and this would be in the running too. Thanks for the great videos.

    wanted to say thank you for the honest review and the coupon code. I only print small parts so this is perfect for my small details. I would most likely get another bigger printer later for bigger projects but this is the nicest one for my work right now. Thanks again for the great reviews and coupon code!

    This has to be honestly one of the best reviews I’ve seen on UA-cam because you said all the things people like myself would say especially about the price and not being able to use other resins, is such a big turn off. I honestly can’t see this taking off not unless they change the price

      Thank you... I agree. It's a shame as it's a lovely printer.... Over engineered though and I'm sure they haven't done market research with the day to day users like us or they wouldn't have gone down this rabbit hole re price, resin, third party slucers... I'm testing it with other resins as we speak... I'll do a video of how that's gone soon 👍

    Great Video ... i have a question about the resins HeyGears are using. Are the resin releasing Toxis fumes and safe to print indoors?

    Hi, I recently bought the heygears 3d printer as my first 3d printer and was wondering if you can reuse the alcohol in the wash station? If it is allowed, how many times would you recommend reusing it?

    • @greedy3d480
      @greedy3d480  2 місяці тому

      It's safe to reuse
      .keep using it till it's very dirty...i use the two buckets separately..one as a dirty wash and one as a clean wash .I don't bother with the method they suggest .. then when the dirty wash gets very dirty I change that for clean alcohol and then use the previous clean wash bucket as the dirty wash of that makes sense

    Awkwardly, one of the things that I like about some of their components are that they don't have as high of a vertical requirement. All of my 3D printing (FDM or SLA) is done in my hobby room, which is a fairly small room in the house. It has a ton of wall-mounted shelves and various other shelving units that really restrict overall height. As a result, the location where I can put SLA printers is fairly limited and that's especially so when you get SLA printers with the lift-off covers. As a result, I am rather interested in HeyGears's curing station... but just not as interested in its $750 price tag. 😅 Uniformation's curing station isn't too bad, but it does open from the top, which is at least a bit better than the typical lift-off lid.

    The printer itself looks fine with some nice features but I don't like that wash station at all. The way it shakes the cleaning vat will break stuff and the whole process of draining it into a 2nd tank is unnecessary. If there was a metal basket like Elegoo have etc there would be no need to drain the tank. The shaking part is a no go for me. Can you imagine having small parts in with a larger item?
    90 quid a bottle of resin!!! WOW! x3 the normal price. (I'd pour my own resin into their bottles!)
    Your clear resin prints are impressive! I have only tried one lot of clear and it did not work for me.
    Does the slicer have the option to auto support without rotating it? That would be good,
    In the end, it's a nice printer but WAY too expensive. Especially compared to some of its competition. Good to see an honest review of it!

    • @pytebyte
      @pytebyte 10 місяців тому

      was also quite confused by the wash station. expected some filtering process or something by the extra drain step. is there any benefit by this shaking mechanism compared to these usual magnet propellers? having to separate the washer from the printer is another negative side effect. anyway. the auto levelling, build plate with holes, having an angle drip option and the auto resin setup is fantastic but the way they created some kind of closed system where you can't use other slicers, resins or even adjust the exposure settings will bite them.

    While I would agree that I think they would benefit from opening things up a bit. I want my 3D printer experience to be about printing, not about troubleshooting the printer. I love what HeyGears has done, especially given that other resins have been confirmed to work just fine in this printer. I don't mind using their slicer as long as the other resins works, as I don't want to have to mess with all the settings, I just want to be able to print something and have it work. And considering how much better their slicer is than most of the others, another positive for heygears. That being said, i can absolutely see the advantage of having an "advanced settings" option, to tweak the settings when necessary. Having default settings out of the gate is great, but if I need to adjust something for some obscure reason, not being able to do so would be frustrating.
    From what I've seen the Printer its self is exceptional, the slicer is exceptional, the resin's are great if not exceptional, the cure station also appears to be exceptional. However, I do question the design choices for the wash station. For now I have purchased the Printer to start working with, and I do plan to buy the cure station in the future, but I don't think I will bother with their wash station. I also bought half a dozen bottles of their resin to mess around with. The higher price on the resin isn't a deal breaker for me (most are $59 which is high, but not $90 high like in this video). But I do want to try other resins, both for specialty resins, and specific colors. I prefer a darker grey for my printing and was thinking of mixing a couple of sunlu bottles together for the color and then putting it into the standard grey pap10 resin bottle from heygears to see what results I get. Based on what I've seen so far, I expect this will work fine.

    Why is every review of these msla printers only about printing models? Are they not able to print anything else? Doe anyone print functional parts/prototypes on these printers?

    • @greedy3d480
      @greedy3d480  8 місяців тому

      I'm sure they do... But demonstrating the printers process, pros and cons and end result is the review.. What you print is almost irrelevant as everyone will print their own and preferred files.

    • @hostage67
      @hostage67 8 місяців тому

      Because models are much more detailed. If you can print models, then it can print "functional" parts without a problem. And just FYI, there are other video's out there that show functional parts, which by the way, looked phenomenal. The functional parts looked factory made, nice smooth flat surfaces, hard crisp edges. As long as the resin is strong, I don't see how you would even be able to tell that these parts are 3D printed, they looked absolutely perfect.

    Its a cool printer but its the same price as the new Phrozen sonic mega 8k S. Even with is added features it'll be hard to tempt someone on to this over the Mega 8k s, especially when you take the price of the proprietary resin into account too.

  • @dovmerrill804
    @dovmerrill804 10 місяців тому

    Excellent review. Like Formlabs, I think the Heygears printer detects the specific resin bottle placed into the printer (by reading QR code or what?), and once identifying the resin, can the set the parameters for the config (lift speeds, exposure times, etc). If this is the case, then obviously this approach (to set the config parameters “on the fly”) will be a problem for using third-party resins as well as third-party slicers, but will be a problem if you try to “fol” this printer by using one of their “empty” bottle and placing third-party resins in their empty bottles. Yeah, Heygears makes it easy on users with their custom resin (with config parameters already set), but then charge the users a pretty premium for the resin. Ugh, sell your soul to the devil, or a devil’s bargain!

    The slicer and resin restrictions are such a limitation. I get the idea of wanting to control results, but that's just not how the majority of 3d printing consumers work. They're still working on a commercial model of locking clients into their ecosystem which is a real shame.

      I'm fine being locked into their slicer if they would simply make a few adjustments.
      1. Start adding profiles for commonly used 3rd party resins, or at the very least allow users to create their own profiles for 3rd party resins. If you can't justify the increased price of your resins purely based on performance, then you shouldn't be locking your users into using them.
      2. Add an "Advanced Settings" area to the printer, so people can make minor adjustments to the settings if needed. I still love having default settings and not having to mess with them, but at some point we're going to run into issues that will require minor adjustments to the various settings, especially if we open it up to 3rd party resins.

      Lol god forbid you get locked into an ecosystem by a piece of tech so it works better. Your phone, your computer, your digital camera lenses, your 2d printer. And they all work flawlessly because of that ecosystem.
