    Awesome video. If more fathers spent time with their sons doing stuff like this, I think our country would be in a much better place.

      I did this with my son, he now has his own place. Works on diesels to range rovers. He went farther than myself. I started teaching him around age 12 and he’s 32 now. I can say to all the fathers on here, find out what your kid is interested in and go for it. I myself started in mid to late 70s why yes those cars and trucks were cool, but always needed a starter rebuild carburetor rebuild and so on. Lucky to have three older brothers that knew how to make ‘‘em run. There’s several of those cars I want today. Like a 64 wildcat, a gto, a sharp cougar, with cool tail lights, a 66 stang. The list goes on. And I jumped off subject. Get those kids hands greasy away from mama lol😅

      This is so true, fathers have stepped away from raising their young men how to develop a trade to make a living and good work ethics. It is hard to find good workers in this day in age. Real men need to stand for what real men stand for God, Family, Country. God Bless and thanks for watching!!!!

    Im glad to see that the father/son projects are still alive, its nice to see. Im curious as to why you went with the 4bt, was it just because you had one or? Why pick this over somethin like an OM606 or its other German counterparts? Excellent video by the way.

      Great question, I looked at the OM606 engine as well. It was just easier for me to find the Cummins 4bt. I truly believe the OM606 would be a much smoother engine compared to the 4bt as it is not a very smooth idling engine compared to the OM606. Thanks for watching and I hope this answers your question.

    this is so cool. for a first swap, awesome choice.
    for a long term investment, seeing's as you have a K full size cab with a third door in the "nu-school" body style you guys should swap a 6bt into a 2500 chassis with your cab on top. I my self am considering the very same, except I do not have a 3 door.
    I myself am doing much more of a restoration than you are, and by the looks you guys had a mint truck needing a motor. I really like the sound and I imagine with some injector tuning you can smooth out the lower end rpms.

    That you for these videos they’ve helped me a lot im about to 4bt swap my 97 Chevy. I do have a question tho and I’ve yet to find the answer im looking for, why did y’all wire up the switches to tell the transmission what gear to go into? Also since it’s been 4 years ago how well did the 4L60 hold up to the 4bt ?

    • @jeepmanking3577
      @jeepmanking3577  7 місяців тому

      I wired the tranny that way to cut down on the cost of buying a transmission controller. $700. You can always put in a manual transmission for better mpg or turbo 400 tranny, and no electronic transmission to bother with. I talk to the guy that is driving it now and everything is still going well with the truck. If it was going to be my truck, I would put a five speed manual transmission you’ll get better miles per gallon, and with the heavy mass of the flywheel, it will cut down on some of the vibrations that the 4BT puts out. Hope this answers your question if you need more help please let me know.

    Nice swap and was probably a whole lot easier than a 12v but personally I would go for 12v for two reasons. One, power and two, sound. I'm not a fan of a pickup sounding like a farm tractor.

    • @jeepmanking3577
      @jeepmanking3577  2 роки тому +1

      Well a 12 valve sounds the same as a 4bt but a 12 valve is smoother with less vibration, and it is to much weight for the k1500.

  • @812racing
    @812racing 2 роки тому

    So just now looking into 4bt’s for the same truck mines a 1997 K1500 extended cab short bed but how bad is the vibrations with the 4BT in it? Also is there any way to have it shift like the old engine and transmission without switches or anything just being able to drop it in drive and go? Or would you have to make it manual?

    • @jeepmanking3577
      @jeepmanking3577  2 роки тому +1

      It does vibrate with stock dampener, you can add different one but runs around $450. You can use a 700r4 tranny with tv cable or manual trans. I think a manual is the way to go, but my son wanted to stay with the automatic. If it was my truck I would have put manual trans in it and with a heavy flywheel with the manual trans it would help with vibration.

  • @BowerRyan
    @BowerRyan 4 роки тому

    How hard was this to do? Did you have to fab motor mounts and get a custom drive shaft? I have the same truck but I’m thinking about an old Mercedes Diesel engine would be cheaper overall, any thoughts?

      @jeepmanking3577  4 роки тому

    If you and your son would be willing to do another Cummins project. Please you tube Cummins R2.8 repower. IT IS BASICALLY A DROP IN! There are tons of UA-cam videos on that swap. I want it in my 1987 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, Tahoe, 4X4, 62K original garage kept Senior driven miles on it. It has the original paint. The interior looks like it was never sat in and under the hood it still looks like it is still on the showroom floor. You do not need to do the Hydro Boost mod (The motor already its own vacuum pump on it). I think somebody makes a universal Motor mount kit. I would love to have you guys do the swap for me. If you can find a machine to make up the adaptor plate for the 60 degree v6, I am now considering a VW 1.9 TDI ALH (a little beefed up to about 185-200hp). Can you imagine more power (TQ) and 30+ MPG. You also would not need a hydroboost set up as there is a vaccum pump already on the front belt drive. Please tell me you will do it for me. The S10 is a garage queen and is hardly ever driven, so I would not be in a hurry to get it back. Email me and I will get you some photos of the S10 Blazer.
