the same list, but conscipts per milion inhabitants
Greece 11 091
Finland 4 000
Russia 2 778
Estonia 2 308
Austria 2 125
Switzerland 2 118

Should have done it as Percentage of Population
Beat me to it
And the size of the country + length of the borderline.
@@andreisokolenko7719 No, that's pretty irrelevant, since every country on this list uses conscription to have a permanent reserve available in the event of a major war. Most of these conscripts serve for less than a year before going back to their civilian lives, but it ensures that the nation has a massive percentage of the population who have recently left the military and so only need a quick refresher course to be sent into combat
Percentage of pop dont matter when you're getting invaded
@@filmandfirearms That is very relevant. If you have 57,000 km of the country border like Russia, you are going to train lots of conscripts.

Fun fact:In Greece general mobilization isn't seen as unusual or a last resort. Every male over 18(it goes down to 15 if you drop out of school and goes up some years if go to university)has military training while the draft has no age limit in war times. This means that the army can choose whatever age groups they wonna call in. If you have been called but you don't go you get a life sentence(you use to get death penalty for treason but now it's reduced to prison for life). In Greece, even the prists will fight during war times(although it is legal to not so)and the youngest Greek soldier deployed on the battlefield was 12-13 during the 1 Balkan war.
This is what our construction says about conscription:“Every Greek capable of bearing arms is obliged to contribute to the defence of the Fatherland as provided by law.”

The mandatory military service for all adult men population in Greece is a very important factor. Look at Ukraine and maybe you could understand the great importance of the numbers. The most expensive army is not always the best army. If one day France make the military service mandatory again, creating a 1.000.000 army and 2.000.000 reserves then Greece has no chance against France.

It’s important to note that these conscripts, especially the ones in NATO or NATO allied, receive actual military training during their conscription. Russia on the other hand uses their conscripts for base maintenance & shit work and many do their “wasted year” without ever picking up a rifle, it’s more of a year of service (and severe hazing & shakedowns) than it is a year of training, and the men who did this 20 or 30 years ago are the so called “reservist” being mobilized for Ukraine.

Military conscription is compulsory for every male in Greece after bevoming an adult. It can be delayed and you can conscript after you finish uni, but at the end the army will come for you. They all got fever there in Switzerland, and the only prescription is COWBELL
I'm kinda shocked to see finland, in positive way ofc
the swiss has a holdint board to carry two heavy bells on each side. there are usually traditions to scare away ghosts in spring but they are seen on many traditional events. the bells originate from the cows. since most cows in switzerland roam and grass freely in the alps during summer. the grass that grows in the valleys will be used to feed the cows when they are in stables in winter. the bells help the farmers to find the cows if they get lost.

If Greece and Russia have that many conscripts, why is Finnish reserve 900,000, Greek 220,000 and Russian 2,000,000 personnel? 🤔
I know Finnish officers and non-commissioned officers are in the reserve until the age of 50 and the rest of the crew until the age of 60, but still can someone explain, please? 😁
Some mistakes there.
The Finnish war time military strength is 280,000, most of them reservists out of c. 870,000 strong total reserve.
The rank and file reservists stay in the reserve until the age of 50, the reserve NCOs and reserve officers until the age of 60.
If the sh*t REALLY hits the fan big time, in the "additional reserve" there are 200,000 more military (long ago) trained men under 60 and 300,000 60-70 years old.
