I prepare my own food for my dog like buy chicken thighs some kind of beef chunks and I was giving him chicken livers but the place where I get it doesn’t have them half the time anymore. Are used to prepare enough for a whole week that would come to about a little under $30 a week
It depends on the calories small dogs need 30-45 kcal per pound and Medium and Large breed need 25-44 kcal per pound. Puppies need twice, lactating dogs need thrice and active adults need .67 times as normal adult. And small dogs need smaller portions as they can't store and use food in large amounts as large breed dogs can.

My dog is a small poodle mix with bichon. He is 15. Weighs 20 pounds. Big boy. I feed a mix of hills science diet wet KD with purina kibble. Because he wont eat tbe KD kibble. I have to figure out how much he should be eating.
My 5 months beagle seems to be hungry all through the day. As he sees food he wants to munch. Though I follow the chart, I tried giving little extra than recommended. But still he is sniffing all day for food. He is 19.5 kgs.
I guess...giving a little much extra is not that a big problem. If you r feeding extra just make sure you give him or her exercise as well to help your dog stay healthy and fit.
To every 20lb - you should give 130-140g and to 40lbd - you should give 230-350g. Depends on your dog's lifestyle. Peer-reviewed studies suggest a grown dog needs around 16 hours per day of non-eating for its digestive system to function normally. That means two meals maximum in an eight hour period and then 16 hours before next meal. Given that many dog owners also give their dog treats, then one main meal per day suits many dogs. Also noted that the video makes no mention of any diet or foods that aren't processed kibble in a bag. My 8mth old Kelpie pup is a high energy working breed. Because he's still actively growing I'm offering him two meals. One third of his daily ration is offered in the late morning and the rest is served up late afternoon or early evening. He's already naturally showing that he's not that fussed about his morning meal and in another few months I'll see how he goes on one meal per day. BTW, my local vets say my dog is the perfect weight and condition for his size, age and breed.
