Totally understand the dilemma. We also struggled with these thoughts as we are older and in our 50’s. Part of the way we have dealt with it is to set ourselves pauses where we can look back and have a treat. In our case a holiday at the end of this year. We are treating this year as a sprint, throwing our all at it to reach a point in our goal and then give ourselves December off. Its difficult to get the mortgage paid off. But sometimes when your on such a long goal you need to pre plan and factor in a rest period. I am hoping we are done by December. It’s also easier to work extra hours if you know you are heading for a rest and reward, the key is to make it reachable. I find it so difficult watching all the social media with people on holidays and then I remember with no mortgage I can start to work less and take time out for the good stuff. Your doing really well stay positive.
Thanks so much for the insightful comment. I’ve been thinking about having a month or two in the year off from saving so I know there’s some point in year I can spend lots if I want to and get it out my system
I hear you with opportunity cost! I personally skew probably too far towards delayed gratification. Great to hear a more balanced overview of opportunity cost rather than just a financial lens
I don't over pay my mortgage, I've been focusing on emergency funds, now I've got them, it's debt! Then I can chill a bit, nice vid, like the new style.
Surley if you blew the money on holidays you would be thinking "i wish we would have finished the mortgage" down the line. Believe me, becoming mortgage free is the biggest game changer.
I've literally just negotiated to reduce to a 4 day working week. I kept thinking just keep going until I reach my financial goals, but I just realised I'm not living in the now enough.

Thanks Chaz. I’m not sure I could ever not save some of my wage but good to have a bit more balance

@@leightonharrison2328 thanks for commenting. I’m also focusing on emergency funds for remainder of year

Yes definitely, just trying to find the right balance

That’s amazing, let me know how you find working 4 days.
