Try asking chatbotGPT app about writing a book on finance. I’ve had a similar idea and ran it by AI and the feedback and direction/help it suggested was amazing! Will also proofread chapters for you and make suggestions. Sounds crazy but just try it.
Out of interest is the writing group online or in person? I'm planning to write a book too, a sort of local ghost stories/local history book.
Mine is in person but I’ve done a couple with New Writing North who offer online and in person ones
Just found your channel mate. I've been getting my stuff together for the last 18 months. I failed one of my goals too, I didn't quite manage to pay off an old loan, I've got £1500 left due to the over time drying up at work but I'm looking forward to 2025. No more debt other than the mortgage after that loan has gone:)
Well done on paying off the loan and nearly being debt free! That’s amazing 🙌
Keep up the good work
Thanks for the support 👍
My goal at the moment is to eat through this mountain of cheese and chocolate before I start my diet on the first. Anything else is a bonus 🤣
Haha love it 😂
Same! 🧀
I love your channel as it’s so grounded in the real world. I have a book goal as well but while I have written much of it, I had not thought of joining a writing group. That sounds like a great idea. You are miles ahead of me with the UA-cam channel goal as I have yet to start. All plans but no action. None of your goals really failed. I find your progress inspiring.
Well done on writing a lot of your book 👏 If you’re wanting to make UA-cam videos I’d just start and learn as you go rather than waiting for the perfect moment. I watch my first videos back now and can’t believe how much I’ve progressed but so glad I started. Will you be doing personal finance content or another topic? Thanks for the support 👍
My UA-cam channel will be just showing the world my vintage watch collection. My goal is to start in January. I do not expect it will ever become monetised. I get people from all over the world asking me about the obscure brand I collect, ‘Mentor’, as I have a website about them but I thought a UA-cam channel might be a good addition.
@ sounds great, you should definitely do it 👍
Speaking of goals, I did well this year, invested 10k, next year we’ll both smash it! LETS GO TGS!
Well done on investing 10k, that’s amazing 👏 we will both smash 2025 🙌
Next we need to get you monetised, it’ll open up a lot of opportunities to financial freedom! Let’s go brother!
That might be on of my 2025 goals 😁 btw let me know if you fancy being on my podcast in the new year, would be interested in hearing about all your side hustles
Moving in the right direction is always a win, you moved that bit closer to financial independence. It’s not a question of how hard you try or how well you succeed it’s how you keep trying. 2024 has been a great year for you and the lessons learned will make 2025 even more successful
Thank you 👍 Happy New Year to you when it comes. Hope you had a nice Christmas
I feel like I did well with my goals this year, and it functioned as intended as the stepping stone I wanted. I would take a look at your goals this year and ask yourself: was it unrealistic? (adjust it), was it realistic but an unexpected thing happened (keep it as is), was it realistic but an expected thing derailed it (plan better for known expenses with sinking funds etc.), is it no longer serving you? (get rid of it). There is literally nothing else you can do. I would say you're a bit harsh on yourself saying you failed with the progress you did make. I would ask yourself this question and make your goals firm. I know you have a 'reach for the moon, land in the stars' attitude when it comes to goals, but have an end point that you rise to meet instead of giving yourself an out that it's impossible to begin with.
Thanks so much for that advice, I’ll take those points on board when I set my 2025 goals 👍
Lovely update, I think your plan is very well thought out. Great time to reflect on the year and be very proud of it as well. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks so much! 😊 have a great Christmas!

It’s going well, enjoying the relax. Yes all prepared 😊
It's nice to see reliable size portfolio, and not another video of people casually buying £100k of stock because market dropped 2%. I started my investing journey 13 months ago as well - and very happy with my own consistency.
That’s great well done 👍 and thanks for watching my video 😃

Nice update thanks, gets you thinking about your own finances too. Merry Christmas to you and your partner
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Merry Christmas 🎄
Well done, think of all that interest you've started saving.
Thanks for the support :)
keep up the good work dude, For me, I decided to remove some money from premium bonds after next months draw, and bolster my cash ISA as I may need the money next year for house renovations. May as well get some interest on the money before having to splurge it.
Thank you! What work are you having done to your house?
are you all ready for a few days off Mr. Geordie Saver?
Yes I can’t wait for a break over Christmas, will be doing a few YT videos mind as that’s what I do to relax haha. Are you looking forward to a break?
I’m sure it must be frustrating not being able to save more but at least you are smashing the mortgage 😊
@@Nick-ew2cb totally! And sometimes I worry I have the balance wrong so going to ease off mortgage over next few months and put more towards my savings!
@ tbf you have a decent amount in your ISA. I try to save a third and over pay the other two thirds into the mortgage. BTW, my son had £150 in PB and won £150, so has £300 now. So it’s totally possible to win on a smaller amount.
Good to know, fingers crossed I win soon 🤞
@ if you won £100k would you put it all in the mortgage?
Oh definitley 😂 if I won 100k the mortgage would be gone tomorrow.
"Gifts are a waste of money" - Austin Williams 2023
I don’t think you are doing anything wrong by paying off at such a low rate. The more you pay now the lower the sting will be when your rate jumps up. I wouldn’t lock your mortgage into 10 years. Keep it at 20 (or whatever it is) and have the flexibility to overpay as and when you can afford it.
@@Nick-ew2cb yes I agree the flexibility is useful to keep! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊
@@thegeordiesaver are you with nationwide? I can change the term on the app any time I want. I recently came into money and now have almost exactly in savings as my mortgage amount. It’s taking all my willpower not to press the send button and clear it 😂
Wow that sounds flexible to be able to change it within the app! If I was in your position I don’t think I’d have the will power not to clear it 😂😂
@@thegeordiesaver I really like Nationwide… I know, considering I’m obsessed with paying it off, I’m surprised I haven’t. My mortgage is 44,000, so with fees it’s about 45,500 to clear. I have just over 41k in savings. It will clear itself in 7 years. So idk what to do. I worry that if I don’t do it the savings will end up getting gradually spent
@ that’s amazing, how long has it taken you to pay down your mortgage?
I dont understand why you would overpay on such a low interest rate of 1.1%? You're making yourself thousands of pounds worse off compared to if you had just invested it and put in a lump sum payment at the end of the mortgage term. And the argument that overpaying into a mortgage 'locks it away' isnt true - almost all banks keep it in a virtual seperate pot and will allow you to withdraw it
Hi I explain in the video my reasons for overpaying 👍
@@thegeordiesaver My comment explains why your reasons dont make sense - I've also just looked at your stocks&shares video. If you had invested that £26k in overpayments in the exact same way, you'd be an extra £7000ish up in returns. If that same tragectory keeps up, you'll be £10k worse off by the time your mortgage renews. Even in a 5% interest account (7% £300/month accounts are currently avaiable), youd be earning £1300 a year interest on £26k
Fair enough
@@thegeordiesaver Don't get me wrong, you're doing great - but you're shooting yourself in the foot and could be doing much better
@@toxichazard5015 Thanks for sharing your thoughts 👍I am intending to focus more on my investments and my emergency fund in 2025
Well done! 🎉 keep up the good work 🙌
@@burwin74 thanks for the support 👍
My logic when remortgaging was keep the term long and overpay as/when I can (as I’ve overpaid for the first term of my mortgage significantly), I can always reduce the term when I remortgage again at the end of my next fix. If I’ve got one piece of advice it’s be flexible!
@@marshallexi great advice! Yes I agree that I love flexibility longer mortgage term gives
Well done keep at it. It’s like running a marathon. You never know what the interest rate will do. Our experience was we had a 1.89% rate for years and then this year our fixed rate ended and the interest rate shot up to 6.99. We could of remortgaged but the restrictions on over payment were far too restrictive. We were so glad we had regularly overpaid to have less of an impact of such a high rate. This month we made our last mortgage payment, I didn’t think we would manage it but every extra penny was thrown at it to free us up. Best Christmas present ever. Good luck on your journey
@@purplekitiarakitty3355 wow that’s amazing! Well done on being mortgage free. It’s really motivating to hear 👍
Awesome vid and such amazing progress, defiantly the sensible option to add money next month to the emergency fund pot especially with it lacking :)
@TheGeordiePig thanks mate! Yes I think I’ll follow my plan and add to Emergency fund 👍
Ya doing awesome Geordie Awesome achievement Keep it up Regards from Makem land 😊
@@boyasaka thanks so much for the support 👍👍
What an achievement! Roll on mortgage free, we only over pay £160 a month, but we’re aiming to pay ours off in the next 4 years (cutting the term)
@@sidehustlereliance thanks 👍good luck with your mortgage overpayments 😃
At a rate of 1.1 percent I would not overpay.I would invest it for average returns of 7 percent a year.Remember the bank could take your house if you had no income. You would better having built up a lump sum while investing it and pay the mortgage in one lump sum.I totally respect your reasons though. At 4 percent there could justification for over paying.
@@dazza9859 I appreciate you sharing your thoughts 👍
@@thegeordiesaver dazza is right but if your uncomfortable investing use a saving account paying higher rates of interest then pay a lump sum when you re mortgage in 2026. But I get it payed mine of in 11yrs 6 yrs ago and it fells great ;-- )
@ wow that’s a great achievement, well done!
You lose one then gain one.👍

WHAT A GAIN! Well done TGS
@@sidehustlereliance thank you! Yes think it’s the biggest gain in a month I’ve ever had!
100% agree with you about Christmas gifts. I'm really cutting back on this too, as a society we have to stop the ridiculousness of ot all. I only buy gifts for a few key people and am very conscious of what I buy. There is a risk people might think I'm being mean, but I've decided that I'm prepared to take that chance...
Totally agree 👍👍
Great vid and always nice to receive backdated pay. I am looking forward to a similar amount of backdated pay in my December pay cheque (I’m payed 15th of the month)
Nice payment for you then just before Christmas 🎄
My partners birthday is Christmas Day, and all he’s asked for this year is a really good cake! We’ve got a few small gifts for each other but we’ve really hit the point in life where we don’t need anything, so we’re light on gifts too. All goes in the holiday fund for next year instead 😊
@@marshallexi yep I do the same with my partner - agree to put money in holiday fund. I’m not sure I’d enjoy a Christmas Day birthday but at least it’s memorable! 😃
@ Everyone says this, but he loves it and honestly, it breaks the day up! We do Christmas until lunch is done and then around 4pm we switch to birthday celebrations.
Great video again mate! Are you doing a yearly round up showing progress from whole year. Great watching the journey 👏👏
Thanks mate, I hadn’t thought of doing that but it’s a great idea
On the Christmas presents one a good one to look up is Harry Browne letter to my daughter here's a sample: If I could give you just one thing, I'd want it to be a simple truth that took me many years to learn. If you learn it now, it may enrich your life in hundreds of ways. And it may prevent you from facing many problems that have hurt people who have never learned it. The truth is simply this: No one owes you anything.
Wow I love that!
Which Lottery do you play?Set for life? any recommendations?
No recommendations from me as I don’t win much. I play National Lottery (the regular draws) and Posctode Lottery.
hope 'the event' goes well :D
Thank you 😃🤞
Excellent idea. I already did this many years ago - I made overpayments to my repayment mortgage each month. Each overpayment reduced the next monthly payment, which gave me a bigger surplus the next month and therefore enabled me to increase my overpayment. It worked like a dream and I paid off my mortgage in only a few years!
Definitley, great that you’ve paid off your mortgage! Well done 👍
Stumbled across this video in a time where I find myself getting frustrated with my lack of progress, but the way you explain your thinking has reinvigorated my desire to follow my goal. Thank you and keep it up!
Thank you, glad it’s helped with a little motivation. Good luck on your journey 😊
I think you should be really proud of keeping at it, even if progress isn’t as quick as you hoped it would be. I don’t think anyone saves well without an ultimate goal; so they’re always useful to have in your mind. Plus, it’s been an interesting watch as a viewer!
Thanks so much for the support 👍
What about taking into account your partner’s totals too? As I assume you both pay the mortgage. I’ve considered tracking in this way against our mortgage next year, but don’t know whether to track my wife’s totals or just mine.
Yes I’ve thought about this but as my partner isn’t too interested in money saving and I’d worry if I was tracking theirs too that they’d feel a bit bad about it, one to consider though - maybe it’ll motivate them
I've only watched a couple of your videos so apologies if you have already explained. But what do you consider 'financial freedom', is the goal to be mortgage free?
Hi, yes my definition is having my savings, investment and premium bond balance bigger than outstanding mortgage balance
@thegeordiesaver thanks. That makes sense! Love your videos you have inspired me to set up my own spreadsheets for my savings etc.
Ahhh that’s great to hear! Good luck on your journey and let me know how you get on 👍
Congrats dude. motivated and consistent is the key to success. you are on the right path.
Thanks mate!
Geordie Saver, give yourself a huge pat on the back as that is fantastic progress 👏 shows consistency pays off no matter how small so be very proud ❤
Thank you for the support
well done
Thank you
Even though you won't hit your goal, it'll lead you on the path to financial freedom. It's never a failure, but another lesson learnt, and onto that great path
Thanks mate, that's a good way to look at it :)
