    For a fixed blade that is meant for hard outdoor use , a steel that is a bit on the softer side,ie tougher, is better than a steel which is super hard but brittle.
    If its easy to touch up to razor sharp, and holds a good working edge then thats good

    N695 when heat treated at best is same (equivalent) as 440C which is decent but dated, replaced by AUS8A, ATS34/CM 154 in the '90s. Boker Solingen is premium and their Spanish, Chinese, and Argentinian counterparts are less (probably heat treat at the foundry is my guess), my experience. The 1905 Boker I have is N695/440C and holds a great edge but the geometry is crazy thin and the hardness is 60-61. That is a whopper of a blade you are using, my guess it is on the softer side, Argentinian? again just a guess.

    That lets me know where mine stands...Thanks. My 3V blades seem to lose that keen edge quickly also, especially my Benchmade’s. I tried your paper towel trick...it only seems to like my toothy edges. My fine polished edges don’t like you’re the paper towel test much. I have a few Cold Steel XHP blades that continue to amaze me how long they hold that scary sharp edge.

    @The9toes 11 місяців тому +1

    Yeah I’ve got a couple of kizers in this steel and it’s legitimately why I WONT get the GMF-1. It’s not bad for some kind of light edc use but if you like crisp edges you’re gonna be at the worksharp every damn week.

    Fair at best with 10 , and its such a good design to the look of the knife that it's awful to know it has such awful edge retention.

    I think everyone has become way to obsesed with cutting paper and rope. " no disrespect to the channel beacuse I love this channel"
    But yous are so obsessed with " the next best steel" and then fighting about it in the comments.
    I have over 70 knives and alote are so called super steels. In the end I like nitro v for edc " yes over magna cut and s35vn" and 1095 when im backpacking and outdoors. Every knife gets dull.... learn to sharpen them in the field and on the go beacuse most of these steel compositions are very simular it might suprise you. But pick a brand known for their heat treatments beacuse that usualy matters more then steel type
