I just came across this video today and you have no idea the joy it gave me. I grew up in or eberloor as the locals pronounce it. and went to school and was friends with Nicky Walker of the Walker shortbread company. The mashtun was my local, albeit in them days called the station hotel. I have not been back since my parents died and loved seeing the Main Street again and the houses where some of my friends still live. My dad worked at glenfarclas distillery which is a few miles from the town. The cemetery is home to a long line of my family. Your information was spot on throughout. Brought a tear to my eye as you brought back so many great memories of my life there. Thank you.

Thank you, it’s so interesting to see this and to listen to your thoughtful knowledge of the area. My ancestors lived in Aberlour during the 1500-1700s, the Leslie, Anderson and Gordon families. I live in Australia, hope to visit the place one day. Btw, I think the MacPherson motto should be Touch Not The Cat BOT the Glove, not BUT, which changes the meaning as BOT means “without”. Anyway, thank you once again.

Thank you Celeste for your kind words and the family history, but especially for your feedback about the clan motto! You’re so right and I had it pretty wrong🤪. The “glove” is the paw pad of the wildcat, and as you point out “bot” is without…so the warning basically is to not touch a wildcat whose claws are “without” a glove (not withdrawn into the wildcats paw pad). I thought we were the ones with the gloves, but no, it’s the “cat that is without its glove” that the other clans are being warned away from. So much better, thank you!!!

@@SANDEMANsFreeTours I received a notification reply from WOLF which does not seem to be here asking me to check if my ancestors came from Aberlour because (s)he has says that (s)he lives at Aberlour and Aberlour only just reached their 200th anniversary. So, in answer to WOLF, yes, It's always hard to know for sure. To the best of my knowledge, I have "John Leslie of Aberlour" 3rd Gudeman of Edinvillie born about 1575, his daughter Margaret Leslie born 1617 Aberlour (she married Dr Robert Anderson from Elgin), they had a son John Anderson (the elder) born 1638 Aberlour who died 1713 at "Mudhouse" Aberlour. John (the elder) then had a son John Anderson (the younger) born at Aberlour about 1670 and died 1724 (buried at Aberlour cemetery) and his son was Robert Anderson born at "Mudhouse" Aberlour 1708 who died 1751 (also buried at Aberlour cemetery)....and so on.
