"We didn't think that he can beat all five of us" is still a crazy statement, but also the recurring trend throughout Lebron's career - in so many of his Cavs seasons, he was seen was the only threat on his team.
In a similar vein (albeit in a more self-aware manner), as Tim Duncan said, the only way to have a chance against Lebron was to put four or five players on him.
Facts, through this video it really made me realized it.
Every team that he left were absolutely atrocious. While some other championship team, their #1 option left and they only lose 2 less games.

The Celtics didn’t make LeBron quit; rather, he was frustrated by seeing his excellent performances go to waste.
He was tired of playing with a mediocre supporting cast and being part of a franchise that wasn't providing adequate help, relying instead on aging stars.
LeBron wanted a chance to win and felt he needed a better situation to achieve that.
