Great tips, I'd almost forgotten how sweet and courteous it is to send messages to new students before a lesson. I appreciate what you said at the end, about ratings not reflecting our self-worth. By the way, your makeup looks amazing! 🙏🏽 ☀️ With love... from Georgia, US.
“Ask and you shall receive.” Just like UA-camrs do when asking for a thumbs up and to subscribe. Unless reminded, many of us do not. I have found that simply asking my regular students-or new ones who show appreciation-to leave me a positive review if they felt I have earned it. Some have told me they don’t always rate me after a lesson. Once I started to remind them in the closing seconds of the lessons, my rating went from 4.6. to 4.9 in about a month.
You are so right on in everything you said Molly ! I have 3 years on Cambly with a rating generally in the low 4.9's and I follow most of what you said ! I did get a few more ideas which I will implement as well !
Can you please clarify the "corrections" tab that I see on each students profile? Is that something I need to add to, or something the parents feel I should have corrected? I have been sending pre/post class messages to support them, but wondered about this tab! Today was the first time I noticed anything listed there!
Hi Mary Elizabeth, when a tutor writes in the chat box during class, those notes go into "Corrections" for the student to review later (if they wish.) I hope that helps!
That sounds wonderful for teaching an adult, but for children, your tips need to be adjusted. I have been teaching since 2017, so that's my advice to you. I always give feedback even though it is not required, and have asked the parents how I can improve. Thus far, the parents told me to do what I already had been including in the classes.
Hi Meta Man! While ratings can motivate us to improve our student's learning experience, a good gauge is 1) are my students returning and booking sessions with me? 2) Am I helping them reach their goals? For more perspective on ratings, you may want to hear Joel and Lynn's segment here: ua-cam.com/video/NjomfBhi7o8/v-deo.html (min. 36) In the meantime, just do your best and your rating will follow 😀
But shouldn't the class they book reflect what they need? And asking how they prefer corrections seems awkward especially if you're teaching CK. Parents will be the ones you mainly communicate with and they might see that as off putting. I correct young students as I go, during the lesson, and include suggestions in the feedback. I can't imagine stopping to type out words for corrections during the lesson as that would be distracting for young students and take my attention away from them on camera.
Hi Mary Elizabeth! Most CK tutors have found that good communication with parents is key--they will let you know how best to correct their child or if the lesson is the wrong level. Some of these video suggestions will apply slightly more to Classic students and as we've seen from student feedback (even from comments here in this thread) they truly appreciate when a tutor pays attention to how they want to be corrected. I have never had a student get upset with me for asking what they prefer. On the contrary--this shows I'm committed to helping them the best I can. I hope that perspective is helpful and thank you for your questions! It's clear you are a super dedicated tutor! 😍
I love it when the tutor sends me a message and asks what I need as a student, it gives me the sense that our class is important.
I tried doing that when I was a Cambly tutor, but I rarely got an answer.

Great tips :) I'm definitely implementing these once I muster up the courage to send my application 😁

Thank You! Very helpful and not over-done as many teacher videos painfully are.

I have a 4.68 rating
should I be concerned?

This is my 3rd week on Cambly. I have a 4.91 so far.
Wow! 😮 Great job! Your students must really enjoy chatting with you. 😊
