「双截龍」は、同社の「熱血硬派くにお君」に続く、奥行きのあるタイプの横スクロール格闘アクションゲームである。 このゲームも「熱血硬派くにお君」と同様に幅広い層に受けるヒット作となった。 8方向レバーとパンチ、キック、ジャンプの3つのボタンで多彩な攻撃を繰り出せる。 アクションゲームとして数多くの必殺技を持つという点が、当時としては斬新だった。 ただ肘うちがオールマイティに強力な攻撃となっており、肘うちのみで最後までクリアできてしまうことが難点である。 日本でもヒット作となったが、アメリカでは2万枚以上も出荷される大ヒット作となり、2年連続でトップの人気を独占した。 そしてこのヒットがきっかけとなり、後に登場する日本の格闘ゲームに大きな影響を与えることになる。

Double Dragon is a side-scrolling beat-em-up for one or two players, featuring twin brothers and martial arts masters, "Billy & Jimmy Lee". The brothers must defeat the savage street gang known as the 'Black Warriors' to rescue Billy's kidnapped girlfriend, Marian. Standing between the brothers and Marian are four huge, colorful and varied levels; each populated with a wide variety of thugs.
Many of the game's enemies carry weapons (knives, baseball bats etc.) and should Billy or Jimmy manage to knock the weapons from the enemies' hands, the heroes can pick the weapons up and use them against the enemies.
The Black Warriors is made up of six distinct enemy characters- plus Willy, the game's final boss - with each differing in both physical appearance and fighting style. The members of the Black Warriors consist of the following fighters:
* Williams - A street punk in a tank top. In addition to the standard punches and jump kicks, his signature technique is a body blow to the stomach. He also wields weapons such as baseball bats, knives and dynamite sticks.
* Rowper - A punk who wears matching-colored pants and shirtless vest. He wields all the same weapons as Williams, but can also lift and throw heavy objects such as oildrums, boxes and stones.
* Linda - Female punk who usually carries a whip. She's not very strong, as she falls down to ground with a couple of punches or a single kick (because of this, she is the only regular-sized enemy who cannot be placed on a headlock).
* Abobo - A tall, big-muscled bald guy. His attacks includes punches, a standing kick and a body toss. He can also lift and throw heavy objects like Rowper. Due to his large size, he cannot be put into a headlock.
* Boss 1 - The first boss, a head-swap of Abobo with a Mr. T-style mohawk and beard. Fights just like Abobo, only with an added double-handed slap. Unlike Abobo, he does not use weapons. A green version of him appears as the Mission 3 boss.
* Boss 2 - The second boss. A head swap of the player who uses almost all the same techniques.
* Willy - The game's final boss, armed, somewhat unfairly, with a machine-gun.

That elbow smash will save your ass.
You could play the whole game with just the elbow smash and never take a single hit from anybody.

@@WillScarlet1991 using any other attacks feels like shit, because you CONSTANTLY trade blows with enemies no matter what, unless you exploit the enemy A.I. they automatically scoot away when you attack, forcing you to get closer, instead of keeping your distance, and then the enemies smack your shit up as soon as you get near. But they're too stupid to dodge the elbow.

I used to rock Double dragon, Shinobu, afterburner, original punch-out, original Mario bros, pro wrestling, contra, Out run, Spy hunter, dunkey kong, etc....i was raised in Brooklyn..we use stay in the arcade for hours on 42nd street Penn Station in Manhattan and in the infamous Blimpies sandwich restaurant in east NY Brooklyn on Pennsylvania ave back in the 80s..good times..these young kids don't have a clue..lol

My favourite Arcade Game of ALL TIME! Such a priceless dose of nostalgia. I felt like a 13 year old kid back in 1988 once again. When I used to play Double Dragon way back then, I would beat up the second player as well, with fair warning. :P NOBODY GETS TO RESCUE MY GIRL BUT ME! :D
P.S. Thank you so much for posting this, it really made my day. If you do decide to repost it: the knife can be stopped by simply kicking it when it is at arm's length. You never used one of the main combat features of the game: the elbow. If my memory serves me well, it is activated when you hit the punch and jump button simultaneously. I used this move to beat the CRAP outta everyone, including the Mob Boss..... Ah such FUN TIMES! :)
2-year late reply: the elbow is OP in this game and many runners use it because is almost sure to go through the game without being beaten by the bad guys, that’s why the runner of this longplay not only didn’t use it, but also it’s WRITTEN in the title “no elbow”.
All bring back my memories, I used to not to go school to go arcade to play all day 😂

とにかく懐かしい、、ゲーセン小僧時代に1コインクリアしたゲームの一つです。肘打ち封印でのクリアは素晴らしいと思います。操作に慣れてくると飛んでくるナイフをナイフで落としたりタイミングを合わせて飛び後ろ回し蹴りで落とせたりしました、その時のキーンで音が気持ち良かったです♪２Pでやるとお互いに殴り合ったり出来ましたｗ。
我々やり込み勢の中で肘は反則でしたね。自分はラストで音楽に合わせて勇ましくパンチのワンツースリーコンボのみでやってました＾＾

肘打ち封印でこのプレイはお見事！ゲーセン他人のプレイを見てて「何だ肘打ちか、つまんね」って声に出して言ってしまってプレイしてたヤンキー（死語？）に睨まれた思い出ｗ
但し、バットに頼り過ぎるのが欠点だよ。バットは凶器の中では一番弱いよ。ナイフやダイナマイトをもっと有効に使った方が賢明だよ。

Estava eu no fliperama num dia qualquer. Num Shopping em Fortaleza CE. De repente um amontoado de pessoas em frente a um jogo de fliperama. Quando fui ver, Double Dragon. Um verdadeiro sucesso nos anos 80.

１Pleyたしか25sentだった・・遊んでたら同い年くらいの現地小学生が来て目と目が合って一緒に金入れまくって遊んだ。金は俺のおごりでね。レバーがちょっとぶっ壊れてクリアできなかったけど、遊んでたら25セントが返却口から無限に出てきてがっぽりだったｗ

I loved this game as a kid, there was one at the local laundry mat....there was a guy we would watch play sometimes that could beat this game and another game, think it was called rolling thunder on a single quarter. I actually came close to beating this version of the game a few years later at the pizza inn,but I had to stop as the pizza was ready and getting cold...I did have the nes version of the game also, and it was a piece of crap....I only beat the nes version one time.
I would like to be a child once again...

This game has not aged well. I remember that an arcade perfect version was all I wanted back in the day. With so many great games now in the genre that Double Dragon started, its hard to go back and play the original arcade version. If I ever want to play Double Dragon these days I play the GBA version which is an excellent update to the original game.
Nintendo did Double Dragon better than any other company.
The trick that you can bring the final boss down from the balcony ,when the big dude can throw you up there was for me the goal for this game!

I finally found out why the animation in Double Dragon is so slow, it’s an 8-bit game despite the graphics quality resembling a16-bit game. It was too expensive for Technos to use 16-bit chips.
