  • Well, it was an old hammer but I was determined to fix it, even though I had another one that was almost identical. I used the tools at Omaha Maker Group to complete most of this work but I had my own little rasp at home.

Pat you are handy guy and seem to have the complete setup. I don't have a tack hammer, but I love the idea of removing the rust.. Which I plan to try out...

It really seems like an efficient way to remove rust!

It is good to cherish tools. The mismatch between hard gloves and bare feet is cute.^^

Thanks for understanding about my obsession for preserving the hammer. I guess I wasn't as concerned about my toes!

Grain direction is critical when placing the wedge. You should try a spoke shave to make handles..,very gratifying too!

@@dfu1685 Oh yes, I've heard of spike shaves!! I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Keeps the neurons firing, at least. 😁

I think we all ought to work with our hands more!

Been there, craking handles you spent much time on.
I saw it coming with the size of the metal wedge. Lol. The wood wedge is plenty for a tac hammer.
    Nice work though.

Hey thanks for watching in such close detail! I definitely should have used a wood wedge for that handle. 🤦‍♂️

You seem to have a pretty serious shop..

Yeah, inherited from my dad. Along with tools of questionable integrity. 😁

I forgot to mention that I did a lot of that work at my local Maker space. I pay a monthly fee for access whenever I feel like going in. I wouldn't try to make half the stuff I've attempted if I didn't have all those tools to play with! 😄
