For the first year, Supermarket Sweep on Lifetime was paired with the Jay Wolpert-created Rodeo Drive, which left the air after only 13 weeks (although reruns continued to air until August 31, 1990). From the second year onward until 1996, Supermarket Sweep on Lifetime was paired with the Pat Finn-hosted Shop ‘Til You Drop (produced by Stone-Stanley Entertainment (Scott Stone’s friend and partner Bob Synes passed away the previous year), now known as Stone & Company Entertainment), and for the next five years, Supermarket Sweep and Shop ‘Til You Drop made up Lifetime’s successful hour-long game show block.

I think the emotion of childhood varies from person to person. This show was a part of my childhood and it was pretty darn fun to watch. but I admit most of my childhood revolved around other shows like Animaniacs, Looney / Tiny Toons, and various cartoons on other channels and such. Just because someone loved this show and had it a part of their childhood, and you didn't, doesn't make theirs sad. It's a preference. :)
You are right, it was Videotaped at Hollywood Center Studios which was the home to Stone-Stanley's Fun House, Fox's Fun House, College Mad House, Shop 'til You Drop, Quicksilver, Free 4 All, Teen Win Lose or Draw and other shows like Finder's Keepers w/Larry Toffler, Catch 21 w/Alfonso Reberio and Mikki Padilla, Friend or Foe w/Kennedy, Love Connection w/Chuck Woolery, JEOPARDY! w/Alex Trebek before it moved to SONY Pictures Studios, The very 1st Season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and of course, Soul Train This is an AWESOME 90's Game Show Revival
And even Powerball: The Game Show, The Big Spin, Face the Music, The $100,000 Name That Tune, The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime and the first season of Everybody Loves Raymond, among others, were filmed there.
@supersaver87 Supermarket Sweep ran for 5 seasons on Lifetime from Monday February 5, 1990 to Friday May 26, 1995, with reruns being shown until Friday August 14, 1998. Also, PAX aired reruns of the last Lifetime season from Monday April 5, 1999 to Friday March 31, 2000. The following week, on Monday April 3, 2000, PAX revived the show and it ran for 3 more seasons, ending on Friday May 23, 2003, with reruns being shown until Friday March 26, 2004.
Props to the late Ed Flesh for designing the set to Supermarket Sweep He also designed the sets to Press Your Luck, Wheel of Fortune, The NEW $25,000 Pyramid, The All New Dating Game, The New Newlywed Game and so many others
Okay these days...the product maker would force payment before they even will THINK about mentioning it. You see it a lot on the Price is Right, as they don't want their products mentioned (though the fees can be waived). None the less, this is a fun show that I loved as a kid...and wished I could tear through the supermarket with my sister just getting what we could :D
On the revival, the winning team received a check in the amount of the groceries plus any cash bonuses. However, on the 60's version, the teams all received the groceries plus bonus prizes, while the winner became the returning champion.
Here's a fact David Ruprecht appeared on the Final Season of Full House when he played a reporter talking about Uncle Jesse being a Lost Ripper It was HILARIOUS
also the begininng of Johnny GIlbert's spiel. Back when Lifetime was good. They reran some good TV gems such as Day by Day, and the short lived sitcom E/R (not to be confused with the ER of the 90s. This sitcom coincidentally also had George Clooney!)
Ummm... I dunno what you're problem is but this show was awesome. it got cancelled when i was seven and i loved it back then and still do now. Don't attack someone's childhood just because you think its sad. Childhood memories are precious to people and no matter how "sad" they may seem to you, they can mean the world to others.
I read somewhere that the show/crew tended to assign rather arbitrary prices to things like brooms or hoses. Then the contestants would grab them and look silly for the cameras as they fumbled with the big, clumsy items. That's why even in this ep they went for things like the garden hoses. It made for a more interesting show. I don't know if the new show will do that, but it's likely. I'd like to watch the new version when it comes out.
Both Shop 'Til You Drop! & Debt would later enjoy their own successes, and did much better than Rodeo Drive, only with Shop 'Til You Drop, where the game show replaced Rodeo Drive.

There's a better chance of the Detroit Lions winning the Super Bowl than GSN getting their heads out of Steve's @$$ sadly. They don't care about the people.
Not even then. GSN and Buzzr since their beginnings have rarely (if ever) shown game shows that were exclusive to other CABLE NETWORKS (as opposed to broadcast networks or first run syndication)
Notable differences: No Shopping List (debuted later) Audience visible during the Big Sweep (a curtain was later put over the audience area, then a fake wall by the tiny cart episodes later in 1990) No Logo on the podium Dollars and cents in the Big Sweep--within a few episodes, it was changed to being rounded to the nearest dollar, as it was likely difficult to calculate winnings with coins involved..

Used '$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime' sound effects for Season 1, and went on to use the ones from an unsold pilot hosted by Jimmy Cefalo called 'People on TV' based on People Magazine thereafter.
was this show sponsored by some supermarket networks ? My question is ... where then picked up prices for real products? The same package of OREO's can cost 2.00$ in one shop and 2.30$ in another.
I used to like this program as well during the very early 90s. But after a few years, I got tired of it, because I thought it was so silly. As for fashions, look at the light pink T-shirt that Doris is wearing and the outfit her partner was wearing. Oh yeah, those fashions just scream late 80s and early 90s. -Matt
BUZZR's answer is: VERY LIKELY, as will other shows such as Whammy: The All-New Press Your Luck, Scrabble, Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak, Time Machine, and many local lottery shows such as Flamingo Fortune (the first two years) and Illinois Instant Riches/Illinois Luckiest!

When I was a kid growing up, I watched this with my grandmother! Great memories of my childhood! I'm 21 years old
I love this gameshow host! Hes awesome :) I just love his enthusiam
OMG! I like this episode man. The very first episode of Supermarket Sweep. Nice. Yea it is nice to see Ruprecht wearing the cool sweaters man :)
This needs to be on the Game Show Network. One of the better game shows of the 1990s!
Or for that matter, have BUZZR air it from both eras (Lifetime and Ion Television)!
Buzzr couldn't air it because all they do is Toddman productions
It's game shows from the FremantleMedia library, ya goof!
YEs it is and this is not on that library.
That incarnation of Supermarket Sweep is owned by the estate of Al Howard while the 1965-67 version is owned by HBO, the same network responsible for HBO World Championship Boxing, Wimbledon, Game of Thrones and Sesame Street, among others.

Here's the series premiere episode of Supermarket Sweep on Lifetime TV, hosted by David Ruprecht. It's aired on February 5, 1990.
I used to watch this show all the time on Pax TV, with Shop Til You Drop immediately afterwards.
Me too!
TEAM #1 WINS $5,000 THAT WAS A GREAT MOVE! GRAND TOTAL $5,919.44 CONGRATUATIONS!
we should start a petition.I am 24 and I still remember a lot of these episodes.
If I ever hosted a revival of the Sweep, I would like to have the contestant selection be done more like TPIR and LMAD. I think having the genuine reactions of contestants suddenly being picked would add depth to it today. Everything else would be the same but I think 25k would be the right payout today

@t7204 This was the first season. The mini-sweep didn't come until 1991 when the show got more settled in.
32 years since it first aired. I wonder what everybody in this episode is doing now.
I loved this show when we had a version here in Canada. I actually had a dream the other night that I was on it. Hahaha.
If you went on Supermarket Sweep, who would you choose as your Partner?
@markheying2830 My best friend Darren.
one of the best shows ever!

Grab anything you can get your hands on... yeah sure, I’ll grab a live lobster
Good episode. Buzzr has featured some episodes with David Ruprecht wearing a sweater.
Wow. Thanks for the touching flashback. You must had a pretty sad childhood if this is what you call great memories.
Okay these days...the product maker would force payment before they even will THINK about mentioning it. OK, that Mark guy was in Jessie's band on a few episodes of Full House. It has to be him.
On the revival, the winning team received a check in the amount of the groceries plus any cash bonuses. However, on the 60's version, the teams all received the groceries plus bonus prizes, while the winner became the returning champion.
The 2020 reboot is hosted by comedian Leslie Jones. She even sprinted out towards the audience like David Ruprecht did 30 years ago.
@David9788 Yesssirrr all times man. I been watching it since 1990 man. It's one of my all times favorites man :)
Mildred is a BABE!!!
This show had sound effects from other things like a car ringing and game shows such as $1 million chance of a lifetime, and scrabble.
Buzzr will start airing Supermarket Sweep starting on January 15, 2018. Buzzr Facebook page confirm it.
Here's a fact
David Ruprecht appeared on the Final Season of Full House when he played a reporter talking about Uncle Jesse being a Lost Ripper
It was HILARIOUS
Yes I have 5 episodes from the year 2000 on PAX including the premiere
We had this same show in the UK? Was great :)

I remember the good old days when Jello was only 92 cents...
I find it interesting that they used the Canada logo for the earlier episodes of Supermarket Sweep.
Jason Delarosa Well it all depends on how you look at it.
The logo used in Canada was borrowed from the US since the Canadian version debuted a couple years later.

Good News is Supermarket Sweep Return on ABC Sunday October 18 8/7C.
It Would Be Really Nice, If BUZZR Showed the 1990 Premiere of SUPERMARKET SWEEP
And the 1994-95, 2000-01 and 2003 episodes!
Did you poop your pants big momma pooper
You know in 1990 they had those creepy bathrooms with toilets with black toilet seats
Aaron Ladner At least we got from Buzzr two 1990 Sweep of Champions episodes.

I am friends with David on Facebook. He dresses quite fashionable.
@David9788 What about you? Do you love Supermarket Sweep man?
why are a lot of the products in the big sweep blurred out???
Love the reference to the 1980s jingles
Also, do they make vacuum bags anymore?
Johnny Gilbert also did the countdown as well.
He'd been doing that until late '91.
Countdown of the Final Seconds to be exact.
@AidenIsLove I think you were referring to the original '60s Supermarket Sweep, in which only seven episodes (one of them is on UA-cam) exist.
Never heard of Mystic Mint.
