Don Partridge was born on October 27th, 1941 in Bournemouth. He made his chart debut in March 1968 with 'Rosie'. He saw brief continued success with all Acoustic band 'Accolade', forming in 1969. After splitting in 1971, Partridge returned to busking.

It happens every spring
I hear this bluebird sing
Love is here again to stay
But now that I've found you
I know this time it's true
Love is really here to stay
Blue eyes look my way
Make today my lucky day
Blue eyes looking at me
Hope you're liking what you see
Hope you're liking what you see
Nobody ever saw
This deep deep blue before
Bluebells look up in surprise
The sky admits defeat
The sea will kiss your feet
I could drown in those blue eyes
Blue eyes shining down
Everything is right somehow
Blue eyes stay here with me
Find my world in those blue eyes
Find my world in those blue eyes
It happens every spring
I hear this bluebird sing
Love is here again to stay
But now that I've found you
I know this time it's true
Love is really here to stay
Blue eyes look my way
Make today my lucky day
Blue eyes looking at me
Hope you're liking what you see
Hope you're liking what you see

You don’t get talent like this anymore
yeah we don’t have singers anymore
When I was about 15 yo, I assisted while Don was busking, watched his gear etc. Long time ago now. R.I.P.
RIP Don 🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏 a very special talent 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Without a shadow of a doubt, Don Partridge must have been one of the very, very best musicians who ever appeared on Top Of The Pops. Probably one of the most genuine individuals as well!
My sister and I use to sit in our fishemans cottage with him and he use to make wonderful music, happy days
But Rosie was his most famous song, use to listen to it when I was a teenager.
And performing live too.
Yes an interesting lonely individual travelling all around the UK coast an indeed europe even until his early death in his 60s, shame really a kind of nomad if you like, he slept out under his stars more time than most had hot dinner's
@@astragreen He wouldn't have been poor though? Hit singles, and when see footage there are lots of people putting money in his guitar case
His best song. No music like this exists today. He's irreplaceable
Tara McSparron I no and I also like Rosie oh rosie
True
On the contrary...listen to this documentary about one band bands on BBC radio 4 extra. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b039cbsz Cheers.
I love it. What a legend.
True, the 'One man Band' lads who played good music out in all weathers on the often cold windy, and all too frequently wet streets have faded into history now.... if no-one put a few bob in your hat, you didn't eat that day......
Rosie used to be my fav song sung by him ,but for many years I now like this better, I feel very old now as I watch this ,I wish I could have appreciated what I had when I was young and him singing this and every time I see him reminds me ,of a life that I didn't appreciate and have enough gratitude for , I should have shown alot mor gratitude for what I had and was all around me
"Rosie and Blue eyes".....brings me straight back to my youth....Don was a very talented young man, and, he led a really interesting working life too.....Long before the era of spoilt super-rich pop idols he plied his trade out in the cold windy, frequently wet streets for 'tanners' and half-crowns.....Those were the days when if someone put a ten-bob note (50p) in the hat, you thought you'd hit the big time...
... and "Breakfast on Pluto."
Took An Absolute Age To Find The Brilliant Unmistakable Mr Don Partridge.
Remember This Like It Was Only Yesterday When I Saw Him On TV.
At 8yrs Old Amazed By Him.
Cheers 🍻 👏 For This Belting Memory. ❤❤❤.
I was once Donald's bottler. We busked Leicester Square and the theatre bursts as well as the Saturday pitch at the Elephant and Castle market. In those days, he played with a guy named Pat Keane (12 string).
Hi Laura, I'm Don's younger brother, and am writing a book. Could I contact you to ask some questions?
1968 was a bloody good year for music and Don Partridge is testament to that ,but don't take my word for it ,look up charts for that year!!
I was born 23rd May 1968,, from northern Ireland UK, 🤝🇬🇧 , and I can say yes ,! It was a great year for music,!
in these strange and uncertain times, who cannot fail to be cheered up and uplifted by this video, ? great sound and great performer.. where are such people today ?RIP Don x
We were the chosen generation,it’s just shame we are getting old now
this bloke is a legend
This was and still is bloody great.
I was fortunate enough to have spent an evening with him after a gig at Loughborough in the early 70s, he was such a modest, humble man who was quite happy to live a frugal self sufficient life. He refused to sing 'Rosie', the song that brought him fame as it had thrown him into the spotlight and didn't want to be known just for that song. RIP Don, a gentleman.
You were a special talent, Don. You are sadly missed, my friend.
I was at this performance, aged 14, since I am his younger brother. RIP Don, miss you and your music. You live on through your great kids.
Yea!.
So was I!..
I remember seeing him playing on the street near Russell Sq, London. I was a teenager then! Pure magic!
Once carried his guitar when he and his mate got off the train at Newcastle and showed them where to catch the bus to Ashington where they were playing in a folk club-lovely blokes.
This song takes me way back to my youth. Loved it then and I love it now. thanks for sharing
Music, melody, voice, lyrics all coming together to create perfection. I'm delighted to discover that I'm not the only OAP who remembers this so very talented, honest-to-God bloke.
Couldn't believe it when I found this on UA-cam!!! I loved this song as a little girl and hearing it again reminds why!!! Love it!
A gifted writer and performer. What a talent.
Don used to play in Paternoster Square when I worked for St Paul’s Cathedral. He would sing Blue Eyes when I had my lunch break in Cranks wholefood restuarant close by. I just loved his singing and still do 50 years on!
Saw him on South pier Blackpool in 1968.I was 9yrs old, lol.Thought he was amazing.Moaned at my Mum until she bought me the single to shut me up.Still got it.Where have the years gone?.
So did I , I think Les Dawson was on the same bill and Mike Lancaster.
I absolutely love this song! It was the last single my dad bought before he died...at the time he had a neat little record player in the car (not joking) which played singles like a juke-box...(you had to remove the middle bit). On hearing this I am transported back in time sitting in the car as my dad is driving listening to Rosie.I still have that single and will pass it on as one of my 'inheritance tracks'!
What a lovely memory to have of your Dad. I am so very sorry to hear that he passed away. He must have been a very special gentleman. ❤️💐
@@moonshadow3946 Thank you for your kind comments.
So much talent there. He loved performing and music more than he loved the money and attention, as long as he made a living he was happy, the total opposite of most so called pop stars. Total Respect from me
Absolute talent unlike the X factor shite we have today
evokes happy memories,good times.
Miss my dad, he loved playing this one when I was a kid!
1968,, a great year for music,,!! Not cause I was born in that year, , born May 23rd 1968, & this song got to number 3 in May 1968 same month I was born as well,,,😁 , but true it was a great year for some greats,,! God Bless from northern Ireland UK, 🤝🇬🇧❤
loved the song when I was 18 ...
still love it !!!
50 years ago ....I remember this on TOTP and the old fellow who wasn’t keen on pop music 🎶....loving it .And that was a result.😊.....A really talented guy and definitely a real one off .
A rare live performance by a real performer.
Yes I thought it was live however I don't know! The didn't allow live preforming on that show never, a video was used instead but no live groups in the studio!..
King of the buskers !
Looked this up for my grandad. So glad he introduced me to this :)
Shine on you crazy Diamond.
I was four when i first heard this.
Never be the likes of this beautiful and honest talent.
Saw Don Busking in Brixham years ago listened to him for ages, just brilliant!! Most of the people were just walking by without a glance. I felt embarrassed and sad that he wasn't recognised. Oh well I suppose every town has its morons.
They aren't 'morons' as you call them they just want to get along, by an large people don't want to catch eye with street performers on account of giving money they feel they are being robbed, I'm guilty I suppose I don't like staring at them, although I have great respect indeed for a talented guy like don so much so I'd take him for a pint or 8 perhaps great guy don !..
Don Partridge was a really amazing one man band and doing everything by itself.
A great musician and folk singer...great voice and beatiful recording.First tome a saw him pm a tv show of
Tom Jones pm diréct .
I Will ever love his song.
I'm the middle a Beatlesmania
Don Partridge become a. Get the number One. God bless him.
I remember that I saw him in the late sixties in Stockholm (he lived in Stockholm a few years).
What a musician.
Great song, first time I have seen it in 30 years
Rest In Peace, Don. Stay free. 🍻😎
The original rambling boy. Happy trails, mate. Thanks for the good songs
quality ..love it to bits
great post..always loved this song...checkout britains got talent....nothing like this anywhere...no musicians on bgt...keeping the elec bill down...miss you don
What a talented guy. RIP.
What a memory jerker! I recall as a child, a magical holiday to a very small and new place named "Flamingo Park & Cowboy City" near Pickering in Yorkshire in 1968 and this song was played all week on the radio, over and over again by Kenny Everett.
underated great performer
oNE OF MY FAVOUITIES. tHAT'S HOW i SHALL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM,
Brilliant! See also ROSIE and BREAKFAST ON PLUTO.
I met him in a seaside town, busking again (though sitting down to play and in his sixties, I think). He said he refused requests to play Rosie. I read that he abandoned being a pop star after some idiot stole his drum kit. Great songwriter and a modest man
met him in Holland (s'Hertogenbosch). round a campfire. Asked him to sing 'Rosie' ..he took the huff and started to ply whisky down my throat! He didn't want to know about 'Hits'..life was his thing...RIP
Don Partridge and Alan Young were my friends in Stockholm in the seventies.
Thank you 👍🏻
Great stuff this...
So good.
A lovely guy, he used to come in to have lunch with me and my oppo. in the staff canteen at EMI Manchester Square. Subsidised fabulous meals at, what was it? 1/6d
WOW ! Super !
I like this Mr.Partridge !I think the top Of the Pop Pickers missedth beautiful innocence & beauty of this by a country mile.Too busy with their madhouse nonsense they slither around in .Too bad I say!!
A sadly missed genius.....RIP Don......I ve missed you
Brilliant!
A great talented man god bless him
Much missed

@@jonathanwilkinson1461 Welcome
Great song writing!.
If I wrote a catchy tune like that I'd be happy for the rest of my life, and get perhaps 20 grand a year royalties!...
Cheers, and happy Christmas
Love big banging drums
one man band great song
my favourite
Legend
great memorys,
6th June 1968; my 15th birthday and the day Bobby Kennedy died.
6 June 1970 I married my lovely husband. He dedicated this song to me, maybe because I have Blue eyes. Been married 53yrs 2023
Great.
REBELS-4-EVER.
Seems like another world - no money but good times.
kool............
This is a fantastic clip as rare as rockin horse sh.. i would imagine. I cant tell you how finding this has made my day, i was a great admirer of Don when i was a kid and ive got a few tributes to him myself on here. This is just how i remember him all those years ago, id really gave up on ever seeing any early footage of him in his hey day. Thanks for posting, much appreciated. Where did you get the clip btw, if you dont mind me asking?
So that's where Harry Hill got the idea for his shirts... Good, melodic music from what felt like a simpler time.
❤️❤️❤️
A 2 Hit wonder. He cuts straight thru all the Sgt Pepper, Stones, Led Zep & says this is all it's about in the end, a good song, pluck some strings & bang some bins.
got this record from new
Brian Millington ....Well done 😊
Good times of love, innocence and excitement, music always at the forefront and Don Partridge out there 'doin it'.. It's the modern crass unfunny comments on the video which seem dated and inappropriate.
rip don
good
sounds like country I wondered if Mike pender serchers heard of this track I never heard of this track before
He used to busk in Leicester.
@purpleduke77. It is from a TOTP2 special shown only a month ago. I do believe that there is almost nothing of Don Partridge out there, this possibly being the only clip of him from his heyday
Wasn't he just the thing!
Think Don in later years was busking at Brixham Devon great turn
It's just a shame radio 1 presenters just couldn't shut up whilst music was playing
Robert Francis Kennedy died from an assassin's bullet on June 6, 1968
Can't get this on karaoke, unfortunately.
damn savage ed sheeran remark at the end
Doesn't seem that long ago since he passed away ,
Great to see this! I wonder if it's available on DVD anywhere?
Memories hey
There is a yt clip of 'Rosie' but it is not one of Don performing it live.
