I'm really glad that all the youtubeurs reviewing Shadow and Bones (Daniel Greene, Amanda the jedi, and you) appreciated it :D
I had a special experience with this show because I only read Six of Crows and not Shadow and Bones. At first I was thinking that we would have adaptation of each first book, but it actually turned out as a 'prequel' for all Six of Crows characters (except Wylan who has yet to appear). I feel like people tend to prefer Six of Crows characters to Alina, maybe the former are more "anti-heroes" while Alina is the "chosen one", so she may seems more 'tropy'. I enjoyed each storyline though, they did a very good job to represent the universe and its characters! The only flaws, in my opinion, were the 'YA tropes' such as the romances sometimes.
I'm not especially a YA reader, but is the genre evolving so fast that 2015 isn't considered young? :o
And I haven't noticed that Leigh Bardugo appeared in the show ^^'

I mean, yeah I would say YA has changed a good amount since 2015 LOL but maybe that's just me! The trilogy and the duology are definitely very different types of stories, you're onto something there!

Haven’t read the books but really loved this show, watched it over 4 days. The racism was difficult to watch but it also makes sense for the world. Hate Zoya so much. The Darkling I really love as a villain because you understand why he’s bad, he’s not just bad because he’s the villain.

Yes, the darkling is definitely not just bad because he wants to be bad, I'm glad he has a back story too!

as someone who was not a big fan of the books I absolutely loved the show, and thought they changed things for the better. also all the actors were amazing and played the characters perfectly.

Well, Jade...you know how our tastes run fairly close in most things. I went into this wanting to read the books (all of them) BEFORE watching the TV series, but...as luck would have it...the library had a waiting list of nearly 6 months. Ugh.
So, I was those FRESH EYES. Marie and I binged the season in two days (sorry, not hardcore enough to do in one sitting). We were just amazed at the worldbuilding and the growth of the characters.
Marie and I both love the childhood friends to lovers trope. So we definitely are #Malina fans. I thought it should have been #AlinaMal, but you get the gist.
We also LOVED, loved, loved the Nina and Matthias relationship. Enemies to friends is another trope that we both love. They did it so well.
Overall, we wanted Season 2 IMMEDIATELY!. Ugh.
So, I decided Saturday night, I'm just going to buy the books. If the source material could come up with this show, it has to be good.
So, I read the Grisha Trilogy in three days. It was OKAY, 3.5, 3.5, and 4.0. Ended on a high note. Thought it was too small. Alina centric worked well for the books, but would have been better if there had been more POV characters.
I had heard that the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom was better. I agree. I read them each in a day-ish. Now, I know why this is such a powerful story. Ugh.
I still have to read the second duology, but have taken a slight break. We may watch the series again, just to not have to let go...yet.
    Loved your thoughts. Thanks.
PS - you know how much I love to read the books BEFORE watching the adaptation. I see it similar to what you said, but opposite. I know that adaptations cannot take everything, but I love knowing everything and being surprised at what they choose to highlight. So, it works both ways.

haha two sitting is still pretty hard core! I'm so glad you both enjoyed the show - not gonna lie I've considered a rewatch already too. I didn't get to savor it the first time! I love that you have already read all the books (minus the newest duology) - see I think you're pretty hard core because I could never read them that fast!!

@@BedtimeBookworm - I am 87% into King of Scars. I am really loving the world that she has created. It also means that they have a LOT of material to pull from with the Netflix series after the first season. It seems to have had a VERY good reception. I'm hoping to hear that there will be a Season 2 in our future.
I also heard that they have already greenlit a Season 2 for the Wheel of Time. That gives me a lot of hope that they've made a good show. We shall see (hopefully in the Fall).
Sorry, I haven't been on the Discord much, lately. When not reading and spending time with Marie...been in and out of the hospital with intestinal problems. They can't seem to figure out how to fix it. So, I've been reading a lot.
Thanks for the videos. They have been a lot fun to watch, too. I started the Adaptation one...still need to finish it. I liked what I saw.
      Talk to you, soon.

I do better with enjoying both formats when I watch the adaptation and then read the books, like I did with Lord of the Rings. And I love childhood friends to lovers, too! I love Malina in the show. Oh my gosh I was so mad about the irises too!

Yay, I'm not alone in preferring watching the adaptation first! I actually have never read the lord of the rings but i love the movies hehe. Shhh don't tell all the hard core fantasy fans I haven't read them yet lol. OMG the IRISES! I was soooo mad haha
