It has been challenging but I love the content, and your lectures have been extremely useful especially for my term paper on Kierkegaard! thank you for the content, and I must say you have some very lucky students!
Very informative. As an artist, I was curious about the ‘Aesthetic’ mode of existence. You helped me understand K’s context, which has not much to do with art… unless, one envelopes Aesthetic Exercise (including devotional practice of creating and contemplating the subject) as a form of worship(!) Perhaps my take on Aesthetics is more aligned with Schopenhauer with Aesthetic Involvement as a state that allows an ascension from the physical and mental. For me, it terminates there if one is an atheist… Thanks for the lecture while I was making art! Your students are fortunate!
I have found in my own experience that the best scenario is achieving an eclipsing of the three stages. When what brings the most pleasure is the same activity that serves too as a vehicle of your personal ethics and as well the most religious experience. My eclipse is engaging in writing and art to capture my vision of economy (new models beyond theory) and there is nothing more religiously ecstatic as when I engage in my craft (art and writing). Boredom and meaninglessness have for me been conquered. 🔨
I think there are parallels to Kierkegaard's strong definition of faith with the Hermetic definition of what constitutes 'God'. For example you mentioned that you cannot explain Jazz simply by definition because it has to be experienced (similar to the christian faith). Hermes Trismegistus also said that we cannot apprehend God without becoming one (symbolically speaking) because it is like to know what is like. And this is exactly what Peterson and Jung have been meditating upon. You need to embark the process of individuation in order to closely resemble the Imago Dei (God Image). Does Kierkegaard address the extreme danger inherent in the teleological suspension of the ethical? A litany of horrors have been perpetrated by confused individuals that claim that some form of divine command was the impetus for their crime.
@@its_eis So, I've done some reading, and I was only able to find reference to "demonic despair" in regards to Kierkegaard's writing. I was able to find to find some writing relating to the ancient Greek conception of the daimonic (such as when one goes to consult an oracle but really consults their inner daimon) but this was not in reference to a danger inherent in the teleological suspension of the ethical. In which of his writings does Kierkegaard use the term "the demonic" when it comes to the danger of the leap of faith, specifically? Thank you.
I believe Kierkegaard stresses, that experiential truth agrees with empirical and supports the empirical truth, but add on the individual experience to provide reference.

Abraham's story wasn't a blind faith, as he knew God told how Isaac would have many descendants, as the promised one. He believed in the promise, even if it came from resurrection of the body. Angel stop Abraham, God seems to foreshadow what Abraham said, God will provide a sacrifice, coming Massiah. As at the beginning, God asks him to offer his son as a sacrifice, never actually sacrifice. Knowing all, He knew what would happen, before it happens.
