The fact that there’s an episode like “Fish Out Of Water” which has almost no dialogue, and an episode like “Free Churo” which is an episode with only a monologue, proves how fantastic this show is.
I relate so hard to the "you have to say you're fine" when someone asks "how are you" even if you're feeling shitty, because if you actually say that, then you get the whole "what's wrong??" and it's nothing specific. And yeah, I know, that's emo as FUCK and people roll their eyes, but it's real shit.
@@meep9231 bojack also never gets away with: “I’m sorry” when he found out that herb was dying of cancer he visited him and wanted to apologize. He said that he was sorry and asked if herb would forgive him. Herb rightfully never forgave bojack because he wanted him to walk around with that thought in his mind that he abandoned herb. Yes, it doesn't make sense. we should be able to say we re doing shitty and not having a whole interrogation or some kinda question without real interest on the person behind it. It's ok if you don't care about why re they doin shitty, move on an tell them what you wanted to tell them. (and you re not a bad person because you don't care ok? Don't feel bad about it or feel obligated in any way) And If you really care or wanna help them vent of smth just a genuine: :"wanna talk about it?" And then if they say "yes" just listen to them without interrupting and ask before giving any opinions on the matter if they don't specifically tell you to. And if they say "no" don't insist on it and just go on with the conversation. It's ok if they don't wanna tell you and it's none of your business in the first place so don't get offended. it's not because they re mad at you , it's just because they don't wanna share that information with you, maybe they ll tell you later, maybe not, but that's ok. YOU HAVE TO RESPECT PEOPLE'S BOUNDARIES.
I think this element is even more relevant later on when he talks about how now that his mother is dead he would never be able to get that closure he always wanted, repeated on the line "My mother died and all I got was a free churro". Another thing I love about this episode is just how well it flows. The monologue just slides through minutes without ever feeling tiring or derivative, we can pretty much map ever thought of Bojack as he's telling stories and trying to find something to say. He stumbles here and there but then remembers something that relates to the situation, culminating with the crushing realization that not even in her last moments Beatrice was talking to him, a last chance to connect also being completely missed.
this came out just over a year after my shitty estranged father died and i couldn't really put my finger on why it felt so weird to grieve his death until i saw free churro. i'm not sad about him dying, bc he was a shitty old man and my life is better off without him. but sadness remains. and it's because the grief i have is for the relationship that never happened. in the back of my head somewhere i hoped that maybe one day when i was an adult we could reconnect. and his death was the death of that hope. so that's it. that's the father i got. he can never make me feel loved. he can never be the one to reassure me that the issue was always him. and all the worst parts of me can be traced back to him, because he's the one who passed on that generational trauma. i never asked for that. but i'll never hear him admit that. he tried to turn his life around in the six months or so before he died, and i think i will always wonder if his perspective was so skewed that he thought he could undo decades of decisions without decades left to live. and it's hard to find anything close to a representation of that in media bc it requires addressing nuance and it takes a lot of skill to write it well. there's plenty of other examples of how bojack helped me process the events of my own life but i think this one is the most notable.
my friends always say it’s dumb that my favorite show is literally ab a talking horse, BUT THEY SONT EVEN WATCH THE FIRST SEASON, LIKE NOTHING RLY HAPPENS IN THE FIRST FEW EPISODES IT JUST EXPLAINS THE CHARACTERS

"TV is a visual medium, no episode has so many words" this line is followed by the episode free churro, I love it
and with similar kind of punchline too lol

Ex fucking factly, people need to stop being so judgmental about others' problems and just say, "I'm sory."

This episode is written so well, that i only realised it was a monolog like 12 minutes into the episode
year late but same

I remember this episode hitting me really hard as well, you did an awesome job of describing it
Watching this stoned/drunk, eating cheap fast Mexican food and I realize they gave me an extra churro for free! What timing! Lol

As someone who also has a dead abusive mother, shit's weird. So weird.
one of my favorite episodes. the next one is “that’s too much, man”. deaths in “Bojack” are gorgeous.
NO OMFG LEAFES FROM THE VINE?!?? IM IN TEARS WHYYYY!!!
Jakey and BoJack in one video... very epic
Might sound weird but I like rants/vents. I like to hear honesty and just “sit down, I wanna talk” type of mood. It’s great.
Somehow this comment hadn't appeared on this comment section yet. But now it does.
Hey, isn't that the horse from Horsin' Around?
☹️
Nah, it's the horse from the Security- Secretary (Secretariat) whatchamacallit

Really had to make me sob with that outro song eh?
Definitely an episode that needs to be experienced
My mother is dead, and everything is worse now

My friend, I can't even fathom watching this as a teenager. My traumatizing teenage media experience was Forrest Gump.
damn so few comments, here’s a sacrifice for the algorithm I guess
I wanna rewatch this episode again
It’s an amazing show, yet it’s really hard to get people to watch it.
Oh well, it’s their loss
missed an easy "it's their funeral"
He kinda sounds like bojack
how dare you end a video about free churro with THAT song, now im sad
How tf does this only have 12 comments?? Some viewers I swearr.
