people around the world still need time to catch up to nigerian history..It wasnt much video footage or documentation to show people until recently..At first, people like me who had nigerian friends would advocate for our african friends, but its hard to paint pictures of distant places..Now that the internet is making the global community closer, things will get better..Now, these videos will be shown..and will be around forever for anyone to stumble upon, instead of being invisible
And again I read comments only to see complaints from almost everyone. Woke Soyinka is getting close to his grave but the sad thing is that even when he said the truth, people are still gonna hate cos they want him to do certain things in certain ways. My question is what stops them from doing it if Soyinka can't. Why are we always blaming someone else for our woes? To be knowledgeable is a great thing but I do not see wisdom in today's youth. We are slaves to our inner cravings. I won't blame the government of the day, sometimes you get the leader that you deserve until you get it right.

He’s saying he’s already too old to lead the charge, but old and influential enough to rescue you from the fallout that may arise from your action. It’s then up to you to determine if you’re willing to risk the consequences of your action, like the young man he spoke about who was worried about being arrested.

Seriously, Prof. has spoken so well on the problems of Nigeria versus the coward and ignorant tackling generation. I had once thought about what he said-that why do people complain on Facebook and WhatsApp status but have no courage to speak-but I had not the exact words to describe my feelings. Though the END-SARS protest was outspoken enough, it still exhibited how ignorant some Nigerian youth are. Why should you have allowed politicians to use you against your brothers to disrupt a logical peaceful inclusive protest! It's saddening!

He has spoken well. All he said is true. For me, Nigeria has been deteriorating for years now. Incompetency rules all arms of the Government. No care and value for human life. We live per day basis. No future plan. What is the Nigerian dream? Can the average Nigerian imagine having electricity for 3 months without interruption? I'll do my best to give back to the society but Nigerians need to wake up.
Chisom Stanley Yes! I had a friend who got a government job in Edo state. She headed some type of social program intended to help sick people, and she said EVERYONE was stealing money. This an example, but she said they´d be given like 100k in aid but only like 5k ended up being used for the people. The other 95k would go towards building mansions for the corrupt leaders. It´s sad that Nigeria has so much potential but blowing it. I honestly think these corrupt politicians need to be put to death. It´s RIDICULOUS.

I agree. The Prof is not a psychologist - perhaps just an avid reader of everything he can comprehend. Creativity is still illusive as a science to most honest researchers. I believe Prof. Jordan Peterson has a lot to say about that. Creativity and self-esteem after much deconstruction and intellectual observations are some of the misunderstood concepts.

How will the youth learn to be better when they were educated by watered down generations. Truth be told, the values have been diluted with each generation since the colonial times when the Professor was amongst the golden generation of Nigeria who were the educated and talented class of individuals that inherited Nigerias functional apparatus from the colonialists. It's from the set of people that we get all our heads of state except Jonathan and Yaradua (Who is a part of this establishment tbh) and in my opinion, Nigeria failed because they failed. Prof saying what he saying because he is worried but he should also realize that their failure to initiate active measures against the rot and decay of Nigeria has led to the mess today. If they progressed the country to a good position like their contemporaries did in Singapore, Korea, Dubai, Brazil and Vietnam, Prof would be lauding the brilliant and innovative youth of Nigeria as against trolling the produce of a failed system. Nigeria is where it is today because it's citizens failed her. Its as simple as that and trolling the youth shows poor class.

As a result He was arrested and imprisoned without trail for 25 month = 2 years in solitary confinement. Troubled by the prospect of the war with Biafra, Soyinka traveled to the camps in Biafra with the intention of making a personal appeal for peace. He was a political prisoner for Biafra
