Great job on the video. I still don't want to bother swapping it out myself because while you make it look easy I can see myself getting frustrated and snapping, and I don't want to be responsible for screwing something up in my immaculate interior - but now that I see how modular the design is I feel comfortable trusting a decent car audio shop to install a deck without making a mess.
It was very helpful to me to be able to follow up every second of this video to remove everything without breaking anything to finally remove the radio. Unfortunately the used unit that I replaced it with it was not working the way I was told it was. CDC hardware error that keeps interrupting even when listening to the radio. But as far as this video being help full of course a 100% without it I wouldn't have been able to do it myself. Thanks again guys.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. The black buttons on our radio have bubbled up. I bought a newer silver-buttoned radio and was able to swap the faces....looks great! I couldn't have done this without your help. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise. ---Dave
Good walkthrough. Took out my dead Sony XPlod, which I regretted buying almost from the day I had it installed, and put the old unit back in pending a better selection. Very easy instructions and I wish the people who installed the XPlod had read them too because I found the gouges, missing clips, and missing screw that they obviously were unaware of.
Very complex system. I remember it took me two hrs to remove the radio on a mk5 golf Edit: Though, with time and patience it can be done without issues. If I can do it so can you :). Good video btw.

You might even want to use a magnetized screw driver. It is also easy to magnetize one if yours are not already magnetized. I have a rare earth magnet 1 inch square and 2 inches long. It is one of those things you want to be careful with around your car. Once you get it stuck to your car you will mess up the paint trying to get it off. I have used it once but wrapped in a cloth to get it off, to pull a small dent out (or at least try) and it did pull out a little bit. Wrapping it in cloth like that makes it less likely to scratch and gives you some kind of handle to get it off more easily. They are strong magnets and fun when used SAFELY.
@JoeChitussi not sure rather get the RNS510 or RCD 510 unit but make sure to do the update on your software...... otherwise there will be a draining of the battery

The security code is not needed unless the radio has been replaced. If you need a code the radios was probably replaced. The dealership is the only place to get the code.

What happens if you turn the key on with the airbag switch disconnected? Wouldn't it just set an airbag system DTC? When you say I'll have "trouble," I'm picturing all the airbags going off at once.

@@Enfig Will people get an electric shock if the key is not in the ignition and the battery is still not disconnected? I'm confused with battery disconnection, is it to disconnect the battery under the front engine cover or just a wire behind the radio?
@@johnz.2957 Its really hard to get shocked in most cars. The reason you want to disconnect the battery when doing an installation is in case you make a mistake. If you pinch a wire you can blow a module, with the battery disconnected it will not blow. But in my opinion this job is a low risk for serious damage so I don't think you really need to. If you put shoes on to go to the fridge at 3AM you will lever bang your toe on something. But if it makes you feel safer please disconnect it. I think there is more chance of damaging a module from the power surge of reconnecting the battery.
Just out of curiosity, what is the part number for that part you lifted up at 3:45? I went to have a new radio installed today and the idiot installing it must not have known about those screws and he broke the plastic and it looks like I will have to order that whole piece you lifted out just to fix that one spot.

I am getting a CDC Hardware Error. If my only option to replace the entire unit. This is a 2008 Jetta with a 6 disc changer. Tried to eject the discs and it took a long time and nothing came out so turned the car off. Turned the car back on and the error appeared and nothing will work at all.

My gti's is cracked on the side of the air vent riight side center console. Chunk missing. Need to replace it. So you will... be ok if you disconnect while car is off? Obviously housing needs to be swapped so yeah im paranoid doing that. Maybe discommect battery altogether, wait a min, swap out, reconnect, wait a minute, then turn car on. Maybe this is my best routr.

I installed a new battery on my 06 TDI Jetta. Causing the SAFE code display. I dont have my radio code. That being said, can i take my radio out and get the serial number of it searched for the code instead of paying $130 for a dealership to hook it up to a computer?
Usually the car remembers its own radio. If the radio requires the code it has probably already been replaced. You can try and call VW corporate. I had a customer do this with his Audi and they gave his the code for free.
is that a phillip head screw or a 5 star tip? also is this the same for a 2009 jetta ? can you provide the name or the harness kit and dash kit needed ?
When you remove the radio it just plugs right in. We didn't feel there was a need to do a video for that car. Is there any specific things you are looking for?

Both are AM/FM. The Enfig AAA-VWAUD4. We also have a wire that lets you use your factory Sirius antenna.

Ignition, Illumination, VSS, Brake and reverse are done via can-Bus. The ENFIG SRWH-VW07 will help the installation.

Just a code but most people do not have the tools to remove it. Also when this video was made there weren't the cheaper options that there are now.

There is non behind the radio. You can get a TR4 to do that.

I installed a new battery on my 06 TDI Jetta. Causing the SAFE code display. I dont have my radio code. That being said, can i take my radio out and get the serial number of it searched for the code instead of paying $130 for a dealership to hook it up to a computer?
Usually the car remembers its own radio. If the radio requires the code it has probably already been replaced. You can try and call VW corporate. I had a customer do this with his Audi and they gave his the code for free.
What size radio is needed to fit in a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta? 6.2" or 7"?

Have 09 jetta, want to put factory touch screen in place of the factory analog stereo that's in it. Is it direct plug-in-play?
Not always. If you do research sometimes doing swaps from newer cars causes battery drain.
What if you're just trying to add a sub that doesn't require an external amp?
So the amp is built into the sub? A sub needs an amp. And what is your question?

When you remove the radio it just plugs right in. We didn't feel there was a need to do a video for that car. Is there any specific things you are looking for?
