@@bookwormsglo It's a super old outdated radio that's been discontinued for years. If you want great radio recommendations, send me a message on our facebook page!
I woke up this morning and found that my aftermarket stereo had fallen backwards out of the housing and into the dash. I guess whoever installed it (I'm not the original owner) superglued it in place instead of screwing it in. This video is awesome. Thank you!
Thank you for the video!! I also had the problem of the "immobilizer active" message. It should be noted that in the video the red wire coming from the add a circuit is also connected to the red wire (non switched power supply) of the OEM harness. My car went nuts, then I noticed the radio remained on regardless of the ignition switch. I just cut the red wire coming from the OEM harness, leaving a clean supply of 12v coming only from the fuse panel, and voila, problem solved. Now it works as it should, the only drawback being the fact that I cannot listen to the radio with the ignition switch off. Also please correct me if I´m wrong but I think that the position of the add a circuit in the video is reversed since the 12v come from the upper terminal of the fuse slot. Cheers!
Hi, I'd like to ask some questions if you could answer me: 1. so to avoid the immobilizer issue, I should only use the power suppy from the fuse panel, and leave the red wire on OEM harness disconnected? 2. In this case, how do I connect the power antenna wire(red thin wire in the video)? Should I also connect it to the fuse panel? 3. What do you mean by saying you think that the position of the add a circuit in the video is reversed? How to connect the add-a-circuit? Thanks!!
One thing to keep in mind is the Power cable must not be strightly wired in or else it will constantly pul power 24/7 without an alternative to turn it off (no shutting down the radio manually wont do the trick) this is why he puts the fuse into the ignition so the radios power sourse is tied to the cars ignition power. Hopefully this helps someone!
Yes, it helps :) The problem I have with that is when you are parked you need to have the key on ignition in order to use the stereo. I don't think that's a good idea. On the original unit, you just push the knob, and is ON. Any idea how to work around that?
@@ayeyooo7008 No, just driving around like that :) The only solution I can think of is to wire an on/off switch to the constant power and do it manually.

Is there a solution that keeps me from running a wire to my fuse box? I’ve got a non factory amplified system and found this video after having the issue of radio not turning off when car turns off.
Edit: I redid the janky wiring with a fuse tap adapter and it works just as it did before. Which means that I didn't break anything, but I also didn't fix anything lol. Still unsure why my locks don't work right. Original comment: I just bought a 2008 Jetta SE and whoever set up the aftermarket radio just jammed their red wire under one of the relays. I think it might be affecting my power locks. Do you think rewiring it with one of those "Add-a-circuit Fuse TAP Adapters" would allow my locks to work more reliably?
I used the add a circuit but any where I plug it it all the dash lights come on and it beeps, it still doesn’t come on with the ignition please help thanks
This happened to me as well. I capped the red wire from the car and hooked the red wire from the radio and antenna to that accessory wire then plugged it with the add a fuse in to fuse #42 located on row up from the bottom and 3rd over from the left. It had a 15 amp fuse in it. Fixed it.
@@katydunning6209 hey I’m not really following when ya say the red wire from the car and all that. Also I checked the fuse location in my Jetta and there isn’t a connection there . Anyway ya can help me out thanks
Check under the passenger front seat, or pull the radio, grab your wiring harness adapter, and put a 9v battery on one of the speaker leads. If you hear a small pop, you do not have an amplifier.

Does your car have the 10 speaker set up I have a 09 jetta s 2.5 got a harness but only the 4 main door speakers work but I lost 6 factory speakers tweeter ect..? Are they hooked to the factory amp and how would I get them to work..?

Hi great video, followed your directions and ran the wiring including the add-a-circuit in my 2009 EOS, but got the "immobilizer active" message. Started the car with the key and then when I turned the key to the off position and pulled the key out the engine kept running! Should I try a different fuse location other than #4?
Same problem I capped the red wire from the car. Connected the red wire from the radio and attend to the extra wire that goes to the add a fuse and plugged it into I believe it was fuse #42 it’s a15 amp three over from the left and one row up from the bottom. Fixed the issue.
@katydunning so you capped the red wire behind the harness and are drawing all power through the add a fuse? I have my wiring set just how he has in the video to the #4 fuse and my head unit still turns on with no ignition or key, and does not fire up when ignition is cranked.
Id run up to a 10amp fuse. Since this wire isn't a main current wire and only a trigger accessory wire, it will not pull much current so you could get away with something as small as a 3 amp fuse.

Oh, they messed up the air controls as well since they probably cut some wires from the back as well.....
if you have power wired directly into the radio and not powered fro the fuse box ignition fuse... than yes. it should ONLY draw power from the fuse box
Does anyone have a problem with their radios? Mine stops every 30 second with a message saying cdc hardware error and It doesn’t go away. I have a Jetta 2005 and it’s really annoying when I want to hear music
So I have the same car as in this video, my question is, for the add a circuit wire does that power the radio on it’s own because it looks like you connected the power to power “red wires “ with the add a circuit wire as well , if still connected to the harness power wire won’t it still draw power?
Also there is a difference between the red accessory wire on the radio and the yellow power 12v constant wire on the radio. Yellow wire is on constantly, powers the radio, and keeps saved data in the radio. Red wire is the accessory or ignition wire to trigger the radio to turn on when the key is on. Because this specific video didn’t use a smart harness, there is no accessory wire behind the radio (vehicle runs in a canbus data system) so this is why we ran a red wire to the fuse box for accessory power to trigger the radio to turn on with the key.

Sounds like you still have a wiring issue as it's losing memory / constant 12v each time you turn off your vehicle. Get yourself a multi meter, and check to make sure the yellow wire is constant 12v (on all the time), and red wire of the radio is only getting power when you turn the key on.
See the updated version of this video linked in the description. The right way to do this would be using the correct smart harness which provides the accessory red wire which turns the radio on when the key is on.
No, not required to run an additional run to the battery / fuse box as long as you use the proper wiring harness adapter. For steering wheel controls, yes, i'd use the PAC SWI-RC module.

My AVH 4100NEX would not turn off when I turned my 07 Jetta off, and because of your video. I finally got that problem fixed. Thank you!
Question though, it seems that my unit asks for the password every time I turn the car on. Any ideas why?
Sounds like you still have a wiring issue as it's losing memory / constant 12v each time you turn off your vehicle. Get yourself a multi meter, and check to make sure the yellow wire is constant 12v (on all the time), and red wire of the radio is only getting power when you turn the key on.
@@ProvoBeastAudio thank you!
I install my new radio but it doesn’t power on. What could be the cause?
bad crips... incorret wiring. bad unit.. theres a lot of causes try to diagnose where your power should come from and go from there
My dad have the same car!
I had my TPMS light come on after radio install anyone else? And to why it happened?
What happens if I dont route the red wire to the fuse box?
See the updated version of this video linked in the description. The right way to do this would be using the correct smart harness which provides the accessory red wire which turns the radio on when the key is on.
Hi does anyone know if a single din radio requires a wire running to the fuse box? And also do I need an extra adapter for steering wheel controls?
No, not required to run an additional run to the battery / fuse box as long as you use the proper wiring harness adapter. For steering wheel controls, yes, i'd use the PAC SWI-RC module.
For the red wire that you used for the fuse does it matter the gauge size of the wire?
??
What size double din works with 08?
I’m wondering the same
What was that song playing at 9:35
My stereo blew out, super sad to know its this much work to replace :((
This is really not that much work. This is pretty painless compared to some stereo installs.
Yea this is simple mine was crazy with using a factory head unit from a 2010 (rcd510) and having to install a bluetooth module since my 06 never had one... what a joke I highly recommend never doing it🤣🤣
Only have gotten to 2:37 and just having a description of where the screws are isn't quite getting it.
I'm a Penthouse pictures kind of guy, not Penthouse Letters,,,,lol

Really shouldn’t be using a screwdriver to pop out the panels
You really shouldn't pick your nose with a switch blade but some people do anyways.
Great job man!
Where did you connect the illumination wired from the pioneer?
