    If anyone is planning on installing a double din head unit to their Golf I'd recommend getting a Connects2 CT23VW01 and using that instead of the Autoleads Fascia as you'll get a much nicer fit, however you'll need to buy the Quadlock to ISO and Fakra to DIN Adapter separately, but well worth it.

    I think you forgot to mention that when you use a fuse tap of any sort you must make sure the load that your adding is on the post-fused side of the circuit protector because if you have it on the fuse feed side you are essentially now running unfused as you are feeding the load from the pre-fused/feed side of the circuit protection direct to your load even though there's fuses in your circuit tap.... Other than that excellent video! :)

    Hello there, thanks for sharing this tutorial, it is brilliant! But I desperately need your help. I have a Volkswagen Polo 5th gen 6R, stock radio. I've bought a Sony DSX-A410BT, and also the cable for the power. All went smooth, but as soon as I plugged the power cable into the new radio, the 10A fuse would burn. I had some spare ones, and I tried switching the cables, as follows:
    1 try: red on red, yellow on yellow; fuse burnt.
    2 try: red and yellow on yellow, as also stated on the radio manual (if the car has no ACC), there was indeed a built in splitter on the connection of the yellow, so you could easily plug the red one aswell; fuse burnt.
    3 try: again with red and yellow on yellow, but I also unplugged the red one on the other side, the one closer to the car; fuse burnt.
    As of now I plugged again the stock radio and it works, so no faulty components at least until the power cable (and antenna of course). Now, the new Sony radio is brand new, so I'd put that away. Could be de harness adapter at being faulty, what do you think? Or, maybe I did something wrong. I have some pictures to show, if anyone wants to help.
    It would be very much appreciated; I'm basically desperate.

    Long shot with such an old video but at @5:10 you mention the blue wire... the complete kit is no longer available and the harness I have been able to find has no blue wire, in fact the aerial adapter is just a little adapter with no cables... basically what function does the blue wire have in the harness kit? The blue wire sends a low voltage output to switch on or power on external devices such as amplifiers,powered dab aerials and electric aerials.
      With normal FM aerials in the VW group of vehicles you may suffer poor FM reception without a powered aerial plug converter.

    Hello mate. This is a really really useful video and thank you for that! I just bought a Desay RCD330 187A and installed it on myself using your video. I have a MK5 1.6 FSI 2004 and my problem is, it won't properly switch on and off with the ignition, it does it sometimes but not always. Also this radio's bluetooth requires ignition to work and it also doesn't recognize. Do you have any idea what's happening? Is it the fuse (although this one didn't have an adaptor, it went directly into the quadblock connector) or do you think maybe it's the can-bus gateway? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

      Try going from the radio slot to the gap under the steering wheel and then up to the fusebox,if your struggling tape the cable to some sort of flexy rod like a thick cable tie or maybe some thick soldering wire to help guide the wire along.

      Sounds like the company in question has taken a switched live from the wrong circuit in the fuse box or have tried a wrong circuit.
      I would advise taking it back ASAP and if they can't clear the faults/repair the problems then they will need to pay the repair bill from a VW main dealer.

    Hi PJ - I have been reading about aftermarket radios and battery drain. I assume this occurs when the radio does not turn off when the ignition is switched off. Are you able to confirm that this battery drain issue is prevented by the step in your video whereby you redirect the wire to the fuse box? Thanks.

    • @edstastephenson9386
      @edstastephenson9386 3 роки тому

      Yes the only way there will be a power drain is if there is a fault or the stereo is left on. Connecting the red wire with a fused spur to a switched live in your fuse box will turn the stereo off when you pull the key so no power drain. But most of the time if you use a connects2 harness it will do all that for you, just plug and play and your steering wheel controls will work.

    Great video. I did mine -works very good . The only problem I have now is when im parked i need to have ignition ON in order to listen to the stereo and using the bluetooth. On the original one you only neded to push the knob. Im thinking of using that red wire(that you didnt connect) and connect it to the stereo trough an on/of switch. Does anybody have a better idea ?

      In this case it's better to use only that constant +12V like original radio. Just have to switch it off from radio itself.

    Hi PJ, great video thank you!
    I’m going to be doing this in an 09 plate Caddy, one question I have is would the top line of fuses in the fuse box work to run the ignition switch spur wire to the stereo?
    If not, which fuse would you recommend? Your caddy video doesn’t show it unfortunately.
    Thanks,
    Duncan

      Try looking in the owners manual for the fuse that runs the vans heater,this is a switched power source and is not a critical system.

    Hi mate... brought an RCD 330... Apparently if I dont change the gateway the battery will drain... however you’ve done it differently... also can I ask how you’ve managed to feed that wire behind and also have you just got a plain red wire extension?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 років тому

      The switched wire from the fusebox only works with none oem spec aftermarket radios,from what I can tell the RCD330 is some sort of a copy unit of a genuine VW radio and so works in the same way as the original which means you will need to look in to a gateway fix.
      I will point out that I have never even seen one of these Chinese RCD330 units so it's hard to give any detailed help,but I have heard of one chap who is bit of a VW nut who managed to splice the cambus feed +/- from the ac control panel to run a upgraded VW radio.

      The part is called a fuse spur and to tun the cable it's best to just drop the lower trim down which is held in place with three tx20 screws.

    What type of head units can I install (and how can I tell it will work) that don’t need the ignition wire connected? I.e why does the factory fitted headset get away with it not connected? Thanks!

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 років тому

      Every aftermarket unit I have ever seen needs two power sources,one constant power for the memory and one switched power for the unit to function. So yes you will need to run a power cable from a switched source. Without getting in to complex detail the factory unit runs in tandem with the cars electrical system as it was designed to where as after market systems are designed to run in all makes of car.

      A sub simply connects to an amp with twin core speaker wire but the amp has three wires plus a pair of rca cables to plug in. Thick red power cable to the battery + terminal (cable must be fused near the battery). Blue is the remote switch on and connects to the blue wire on you radio and black or brown is the earth wire that goes from the amp to the cars bare bodywork(must contact steel).

    • @PJsprojects

      Red is for ignition fused,yellow is main power,orange is for illumination(not used),blue is for electric aerial or amp remote,black is earth,whites,greys,greens,purples are speakers and if you have a light green cable on a stereo with a screen its for the hand brake(switched earth).

    • @F7INN
      @F7INN 7 років тому

      PJs projects thank you, that's very helpful as I wasn't sure about the orange wire especially. I take it then I should just take the flat connector off of the red wire (that says 12v ignition) and crimp it onto my amp fork. My kit also has the ariel part, with the two black wires with different connectors on either end of a silver tube and a loose blue wire, however the wiring harness itself doesnt have a blue wire attached. It came with a loose one however that I'm not sure what to do with

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  7 років тому

      Your stereo should have a blue wire coming from it,connect your blue wire from the aerial adaptor to it. If you are running an amp then you also need to run a blue wire to it's remote connection. The red wire is just to power your stereo,nothing else.

      Not really,tape the end of the wire to some garden wire or thick solder wire and run it down from the head unit slot to where the pedals are and if needed use the gap where the steering column goes to feed the wire across to the fuse box.
