Am at Auroville currently. It’s a nice enough place however one thing I have noticed is it is mostly locals doing all the hard work and non Indians doing meditation, art etc.How is this equality ? You never see non Indians and Indians communicate unless it is transactional.Of the non Indians it’s mostly caucasians and no black or Asians.Ofcourse there are some exceptions but does this not go against the very philosophy on which this place was founded.Worth a visit but personally I would prefer Pondicherry or other places in India.Very hipster vibe here.On the bright side you have good organic food, nice beaches, cool guest houses with lots of greenery and matrmandir dome.

It is so simple when we really think about it, right? Create a community where everybody's basic needs are met: food, water, shelter, healthcare. Remove the stress of labor-for-income and remove as much need for money and competitive business and you have a community of about 3,000 very happy, healthy people! We can do that everywhere. so you're ok with settler colonialism? White people once again coming to indigenous lands and taking over with "their" view of the world. Nothing about the place preaches what Sri Aurobindo stood for. Wake the f up.
No potential, no opportunity, no potential, no hope? There are certain fundamentals that many of these "experiments" often overlook. The "drum major" instinct that resides in so many of us is vital to our existence and our development as a species. The need, the drive to produce more from less, to provide for an ever increasing population; to cope with novel viruses and diseases, these all require a fundamental inner thrust forward as a community and society. That can't be overlooked. It's true we have excesses; injustice and inequality reign supreme. Yet the benefits, I would suggest, do ultimately far out way any negative connotations that may exist and are of fundamental importance to the future of humanity.

It's just not sustainable without Indian,UN,UNESCO support and of course resident's personal money brought from outside.. And few non Aurovill villages inside and outside help a lot in commercial exchanges and viability of community..Of course tourists flocking from all over the world also help by purchasing little handcrafted things by inmates/residents,and they are usually less valuable things and aesthetically the whole of Aurovill is less appealing including the Mathrimandir.. What is the negative side in all things is,it is taking U turn on thousands of years of human achievements and compelling one to go back to periods before civilisations..
I visited Auroville for about 4 days earlier this year. It was a pretty amazing, peaceful place. I also visited the sound garden (no sound bath, though) and also met Krishna at the restaurant that his community runs. I also had a chance to go into the Matrimandir, which is quite an experience (even for me... who is definitely not into meditation). Overall, it is a bit of "old hippy" ville, and I think some of the comments about how people talk about The Mother being a bit cultish are correct, but I found it to be a very worthwhile experience and a place filled with open, accepting people.
This is the first video I watched from your channel; I don't know in your personal life how positive you are.. but here you are showing very positivity if you're same everywhere "I like you" 😊😊
Hey Shehnaz, I went to Auroville in 2017 in a hope to experience the very sense of community living which you showed in this video. Didn't get to see the school, the sound garden etc but only the Maitri Mandir that too from outside since we didn't have any prior reservations for it. Does this require some special tour booking or any other requirement? Would love to see more about this place and hopefully visit Auroville and Pondicherry again!
I was there 2019 for two weeks. It was no problem to visit the park and enter the Matrimandir. I was inside it twice in the two weeks and i even meditated in the chambers and the main hall. It's a calm place and it's good and intelligent, that there is a reservation process. Otherwise it wouldn't be a calm place to meditate anymore. And the park and the Matrimandir is mainly for Aurovillians, the residents to relax and meditate and not primarly for tourists. It's good, like it is now.
Many people will never actually visit India, but, I hope that everyone can visit this page and watch! It's awesome to view and consider- maybe this will inspire many more people and organizations to develop new ideas!

I agree, but to get there takes much more time and effort, you would also have to ask the hundreds or possibly even thousands of people who have put all their faith, effort and financial resources into the community, to eventually realize that things are not what they seem to even long term visitors. A correction - Auroville was created by Mirra Alfassa, also fondly known as 'The Mother', who was an Avatar of The Divine Mother. The Mother did not start Auroville to serve as an Utopia as imagined by humans based on external superficial ideals of unity but rather on finding the Divine within oneself and on a rising above the state of the present human consciousness. In fact, the first and foremost condition that The Mother laid down in Her charter was that one must be a willing servitor of the Divine.
@@Narconecrotix that's how I felt when I visited. The wording and the fact they didn't have a single picture of "the mother" all gave cultish vibes. But I think it really is just a community of people who want to create a utopian society.

I do seat with labour and even i do seat with collector. I think that the money shouldn't be there b/w humanity. Money, politics, religion, status makes human fool. Would this place bring peace to my soul?
1. The idea of the community actually came from Sri Aurobindo, an Indian freedom fighter - not sure why this wasn't mentioned? 2. Residents don't just play and make art and meditate all day - they are expected to volunteer, work and contribute eg through cooking, working the land or developing new technological solutions. When you eventually qualify for maintenance it's around 5,000 rs per month. Although it seems a lot of the westerners don't have to volunteer as much and Indian workers are employed to do the majority of the shlep work - because the westerners contribute big $$$ 3. It is by no means crime free and women have been attacked numerous times in the past. For this reason, Auroville's own tourism information website advises women to never travel alone at night and to practice modesty at all times. To the point where they discourage sunbaking as it is seen by local men as an invitation, and the website says sometimes it's safer to just swim fully clothed. 4. For a "free" society it seems to have just as much bureaucracy as the rest of India, or Europe for that matter, in terms of lining up to complete a tonne of registrations and paperwork, not to mention politics and infighting. 5. Mounds of trash dumped on the side of the road, just like the rest of India - not great for the environment and not great for tourism from western countries, where dumping trash is a no no. Doesn't exactly sound like the utopia it was envisaged to be, and find in light of this that this video is somewhat superficial and irresponsible.
Completely agree. A very superficial portrayal of the place… A lot of important information has been left out, starting with a mention of Sri Aurobindo, whose dream this was, which the Mother later undertook! People should google for more information!
believe me, it is not so easy to be part of Auroville, I was there in december 2019, and according to someone who lives already there ( Russian teacher of sanskrit language ) it is very difficult,,,there are a lot creepy rules! When you see things like a visitor is amazing, but you have to observe the reality! I don't want to say much about it.... You have to go there to inform about,,,,

imagine whole world like Auroville ❤
It's just not sustainable without Indian,UN,UNESCO support and of course resident's personal money brought from outside.. And few non Aurovill villages inside and outside help a lot in commercial exchanges and viability of community..Of course tourists flocking from all over the world also help by purchasing little handcrafted things by inmates/residents,and they are usually less valuable things and aesthetically the whole of Aurovill is less appealing including the Mathrimandir..
What is the negative side in all things is,it is taking U turn on thousands of years of human achievements and compelling one to go back to periods before civilisations..
@@vijeshnarayan9422 true, but the question is would you rather have a peaceful u turn or disastrous forward.
@@vzero8612 excellent question.....
IMO it's difficult to maintain.
No place is perfect. As humans live here, it is likely just as crazy or more so than any other place. Thanks for showing the place.
Looks good but in the end I would like to live in pure nature somewhere in Norway, Finland or Canada. Just me and the absolute purity.
Look like a lot of fun....
I wonder how thier elder retire, there
I have been in Auroville in 2019. It was the best experience of my life! Since that time my only target is to be and stay there for ever!
Then wht happend..why u left?
... and how long did were you there ?
I visited Auroville for about 4 days earlier this year. It was a pretty amazing, peaceful place. I also visited the sound garden (no sound bath, though) and also met Krishna at the restaurant that his community runs. I also had a chance to go into the Matrimandir, which is quite an experience (even for me... who is definitely not into meditation). Overall, it is a bit of "old hippy" ville, and I think some of the comments about how people talk about The Mother being a bit cultish are correct, but I found it to be a very worthwhile experience and a place filled with open, accepting people.
so no progress, no competition just chilling all day. hmmmmmm no I'll pass, but might visit on a vacation or something.
And no connection to other people, everybody on its own
@@oreradovanovi5204 that's just sad
I was going there for some work and, idk how this video popped to my suggestions but damn now I'm excited.
Interesting and Inspiring vid.Auroville,is established by Rishi Aurobindo Ghosh and Mirra Alfassa( Srimaa.Sound Garden and Bath is absolutely amazing.
Would love to see more about this place and hopefully visit Auroville and Pondicherry again!
yea how do we get to see everything and know about the community same as she has?
Same for me
@@rohitharidas91 oh hi Another Rohit
me too. I hardly saw anyone. The grounds are really nice though, but I'm not sure there is no corruption there.
I have visited Auroville three times for two weeks. This is really amazing. And I think you missed Gaia's Garden.
Bansuri Beach Resorts near Sandunes is one of the best. Very close to the Beach, Classy. I stayed there during my vacation to Pondicherry. Its very rare to have such resorts very close to a famous spot, with such facilities at a budget price. Also it provides free entry to Sandunes❤❤❤. Must go 😍😍
Nope. Come to our ashram instead. Sex is free 24/7.
Being such a fascinating place i wonder why there are only around 3000 people living there! I just feel like i belong to this place. Its such a wonderful way of presenting all of this in such a short time. Thank you for this wonderful video. And yes i would love to live here.
There are only 3000 people because they directly indirectly forces you to leave your religion, abandon your beliefs, you can't worship your God there.
So this place being in India whare people are struggling and dying from around just about 1000 years to keep there religion alive.... It doesn't make sense to just leave all that to become a hippie.

Lion pray a deer everyday, if God will go to deers aid the lion will starve and die.
I wish the whole world was like this and all humans would like this… close to nature, nurturing each other. In peace, in freedoms and in consciousness
Wish you could experience the dark side of Auroville as well and show that to world as well!
I agree, but to get there takes much more time and effort, you would also have to ask the hundreds or possibly even thousands of people who have put all their faith, effort and financial resources into the community, to eventually realize that things are not what they seem to even long term visitors.
Not all that shines is gold, and where there is light there is also darkness.
Which kind of experience ? pls tell us
Please, tell us. I'd like to know it

Yep. “Burning man”…
Soooo a cult commune.
@@Narconecrotix that's how I felt when I visited. The wording and the fact they didn't have a single picture of "the mother" all gave cultish vibes. But I think it really is just a community of people who want to create a utopian society.
Too much Amazing🎉
Wish the world was like auroville. Just gonna have to start my own auroville.

@@abirnigam8816 sounds like paradise. Religion just divides us, were all human beings at the end of the day we all come from and go to the same place . And you know that there way of living is nothing great and revolutionary, is just communist.
They are living in peace because a lot of external money is pouring in and also they're getting a lot of sex. Once the money stops... They'll be our of this place in no time.
@@PachamamaGLORY it's not successful because no doctors who perform complex surgeries which requires immense amount of talent would like to earn same as a sweeper. That's communist 😂😂
On paper they earn 12k but every year millions of dollars are coming in from all over the world. Where is that going. Once they money stops... That doctor will be out of thet place in real world where he can get paid according to his talant. Than with no doctors there when the sweeper catches infection, he'll go out as well.... Without him the place will go filthy she that's how a chain reaction starts. We live in a capitalistic society and there a reason behind that. There's a reason some in history and now as well go through immense amount of tourcher and sacrifice there life to protect there religion.

You should also know that Government have a investigation prob launched on your residents of heaven for money corruption and sex offences.

Hi miss. Loved to see u again. I m an engineer civil. Left my job now working as a govt employee. Planning to leave that to. Not getting what I want may be I don't even know what I want. Planning to become an Actor or would move Canada or Amsterdam. After watching this vlog totally confused. I know that I do each and everything. I do labourwork. I do seat with labour and even i do seat with collector. I think that the money shouldn't be there b/w humanity. Money, politics, religion, status makes human fool. Would this place bring peace to my soul?
Je suis passé à Auroville, et c'est vrai qu'il y a un côté très apaisant dans ce jardin de Pondichéry.
Very interesting content , and lovingly explored
Amazing and exotic
I would love to go there someday.
A very superficial portrayal of the place…
A lot of important information has been left out, starting with a mention of Sri Aurobindo, whose dream this was, which the Mother later undertook! People should google for more information!
i want to move and live there!!!! seriously!!! be my guide
believe me, it is not so easy to be part of Auroville, I was there in december 2019, and according to someone who lives already there ( Russian teacher of sanskrit language ) it is very difficult,,,there are a lot creepy rules! When you see things like a visitor is amazing, but you have to observe the reality! I don't want to say much about it.... You have to go there to inform about,,,,
