It's definitely not what it used to be. I couldn't imagine watching a time lapse of the decline. The lack of major business bringing money from surround areas is the problem. The people of these particular cities or town spend their money outside of were they live do to the fact that there just isn't anything worth anything that's accessible in their communities. If you track were they buy their food, clothing and go for entertainment it goes to Fairview Heights, Offallon, Belleville, Collinsville, St. Louis etc, basically the surrounding cities feed off them. The mall in Fairview was the only big mall to shop that was affordable and easy to access after the closing of the St. Louis Center shopping mall. It's a way to escape as well. With people coming from impoverished areas it brings certain troubles for businesses so the way they combat it is through high security, close, or remove stores that attract certain type of people which alarms whites and offends blacks. The foundation of America is why we see what we see in this video

Thank u for traveling, posting these vids so I can c these sites/towns without going there. It breaks my heart that bad municipal management has had such a hand in the tales of towns decline. Seattle/Everett WA went through a horrible economic downturn in the mid 60's when Boing took a heavy decline in business. Learning a lesson the area leaders/ and state leaders began seriously diversifying the industrial and business base. Look at Seattle/Everett/Bellevue now. Astonishing. I lived there for a long time, and would never move back because of the absolutely horrible traffic and community congestion though.

You may want to fact-check this, but it's my understanding that Alorton used to be part of East St. Louis. Then, in order to keep the tax revenue for themselves, a lot of the industry there on Route 15 annexed into their own town (Alorton). It was apparently a devastating blow to East St. Louis who no longer had the revenue from a huge chunk of the industry.

Now, there's like 10 Illinois counties all trying to be added as part of the metro east. 😢Cahokia and Alorton merged and became Cahokia Heights Illinois

0:38 no wonder your 255 video had so many errors, Google isn't 100% accurate on those, it's got more of Cahokia than it actually is (the boarder is the levee), and it's got part of Sauget considered Centreville. Google tries, but they'll never be 100% accurate, because their lines don't officially line up with boarders, it just gives you a broad overview of approximate regions.

The Mississippi people never left due to floods they left due to genocide by the French 🧐 this is why the Midwest always had a problem progressing business wise is because the natives of Missouria and Illinois already had a society 🤞🏾💯

1:35 none of the locals ever call it that! We all call it "So-jay". French names to St Louisians are seldom pronounced their proper way. Oh, and we add an "r" to wash, so it's waRsh here.

Right as the eight-minute mark on the corner of Williams and K 1300 is the house I grew up in and also back in 2015 was the house I got shot will a 12-gauge shotgun and paralyzed because of pointless gang violence, didn't have anything to do with me. All of that is trash down there now

Why? All that's there are strip clubs and factories. I worked for Cerro Copper for a few years to get me enough money to get the hell out of Cahokia!

"Back in the day" (which is to say 30-50 years ago) Centerville and Alorton were largely Black, while Cahokia was filled with Hillbillies.

4:54 well, I'll have to drop a dislike for your wrong information, because you chose to use Wikipedia as your source. Why? Why are so many users of a site that can be edited by anyone?

That was mean, Jack Son. I’ll forgive you though. And I’m not sure what I used. Could’ve been wiki or it could’ve been a different source. My memory doesn’t stretch back that far.
