Okay so basically the Apple TV 4K is powered by an A10X CPU, which is susceptible to the checkm8 exploit. This means the Apple TV 4K can jailbreak for life, regardless of the version of tvOS. This is just like how the iPhone X can jailbreak iOS 13 and up forever! The only problem is that the Apple TV 4K doesn't have a USB port. Instead the device ships with simply HDMI, power, and ethernet.
However the ethernet has a dirt little secret, it contains a debugging port! We can use this (by tearing the Apple TV 4K apart and installing a breakout board) to piggyback off of it and gain USB / DFU connectivity!
Yes this is required, and it will always be required, until someone finds a better way (if they ever do). There's talk that an easier solution may be coming, but it would be very far off. So that's why we need a breakout box / board.

Step 1 (4:41) - Pry off the bottom of the device.
Step 2 (6:11) - Unscrew the 4 T7 torx screws.
Step 3 (7:06) - Solder pin 10 to the gold contact shown in the video.
Step 4 (11:18) - Solder pins 4, 5, and 6 to the corresponding ethernet ports.
Step 5 (14:26) - Connect breakout cable and reassemble.
Step 6 (17:02) - Plug in micro USB and test it.
Congratulations, if you followed all of the steps outlined in this video, you'll be able to jailbreak your Apple TV 4K forever! As long as Apple continues to support the device, you'll be able to jailbreak it with this (semi) simple hardware mod. Seriously, don't let it intimidate you, it's doable with minimal soldering experience.

You have to tighten the four screws for the heatsink harder because the heatsink must be in contact with the processor. Otherwise it can cause overheating.

Great job as for me doing this it ain’t happening. I don’t have the technical skills about the only thing I could jailbreak is android streaming box which way I’ll know is just a couple buttons. I wouldn’t wanna risk ruining my Apple TV but you did a nice job and a great video.

This is really good to hear maybe can be installed little cleaner, but hats off I never thought I would see you tackle something like this👍🏻 I bought a Apple TV 4K from private party brand new in box (120$) I specifically found out the production week so that it would come preloaded with os 11 I think it was. So I waited patiently for jail break for the 4K cautiously avoiding the Apple pop ups to update. When one night I fell asleep watching it. When I woke up I was on top of the remote & the tv was updated to 12 or 13 only to find out jailbreak came out a week later couldn’t have been more mad. But this is awesome I’ll be trying this soon.

I finally had time last night to install the breakout board, my 2nd attempt, I quit the first time, because I didn’t use flux and the solder didn’t transfer well or at all, but since then I practiced soldering and had all the necessary supplies. I only did the four connections and since my Apple TV 4K has been stuck on recovery mode for months I was able to bring it back to life. I wasn’t able to jailbreak, I keep getting error 20, but at least my ATV is out of the dreaded bricked recovery mode. Thanks for your time. 👍🏼

Led free solder is crap, Ledded solder leaves a cleaner beed and flows much easier when connecting wires to pads, also use flux this will give a cleaner beed again and help by lowering the chances of you burning pads and the board. Then clean alcohol and a brush.
I’m pretty sure Steve recommended led free cause of the lower melting point. Since again it’s not recommended to go over 350 degrees C. But I swear from my experience, it was difficult. Much harder than anything I’ve soldered before.
@@iCrackUriDevice from experience Lead solder has a low melting point around the 180 to 200 degrees C, where the unleaded stuff is about 230 degrees C mark. but if you use Flux high temps can be used on a board for quicker melting. the only reason why you shouldn't use Lead solder is it's bad for your Lungs and you should use a fabric (paper disposable) mask. BUT Leaded solder is so much easier to use and takes less heat and you will always have a clean and shiny solder point even if your solder iron is getting on in years. Great video though man.

Is jailbreaking tvOS even worth it at this point? The jailbreak-developers don't care enough about it, so there's not much to do except for Flappy bird and Kodi really. I've jailbroken my ATV4K two times, ended up removing it both times in disappointment. Wish tvOS got the same attention as iOS does.

They want to make sure your device doesn’t turn into a brick, which is a possibility with such a low-level (bootrom) exploit (checkm8). My guess is unforeseen complications came up after drivers were finished. Trust me, you want them to take their time with this sort of thing.

@@Vélez-Rubio Who would spend that much money to jailbreak your phone. You can install ubuntu on windows then install qemu on ubuntu with clover and jailbreak with checkra1n. That's what I did atleast, there's a tutorial by this guy called DownTheCrop which worked really well.
@@Vélez-Rubio I will never get a MacBook in my life. I can't play games on it and run them well which is why I get laptops and computers. Windows is also more customization and just is better than Apple at their customization. Don't get me wrong, Apple phones are my favorite and I will always use Apple over Android but I hate Macs.
You should make a video on what to do with an apple tv jailbreak with instructions on how to do things. I jailbroke mine and literally haven't done anything to it because I don't know what to do.

Same as in you can then plug into a computer and open iTunes and restore official ipsw. I would appreciate it if you could confirm this, on a working Apple TV obviously. Hi @all, I builded a internal USB port and DFU switch solution into my ATV 4K. Only thing I stuck on is how I have to connect the switch to the ATV 4K circuit board.
I don’t have a breakout board and I can only use some of the rare pictures in the www, but they mostly show just one side of the breakout board.
It seems so, that the switch for DFU mode is connected this way, but I’m not sure: ground->10K Ohm resistor->switch in->switch out-> to Pin 10 (test point for DFU mode) and to 10 or 100nF ceramic capacitor, second pin from the ceramic capacitor connected to ground.
Can somebody confirm if this is correctly or do some detailed photos from the circuits of the breakout board.
When the switch is connected I’m done and will do myself a how to video for everybody that shows a internal solution without a breakout cable (it looks more good).

If you install the breakout board it will fix the problem. I did it last night and it works.
Gave a thumbs up for the info and the time spent on the video. But damn. That solder-job makes me cringe. Don't look at it the wrong way or the cold solder joints will crack. Any way! I'm off to do the same thing. Though I might stray from the blue wires. ha. Lucky enough to grab one in December prior to being back-ordered. Nice to see a video on this.

@@zsqduke after I installed the breakout board I connected the micro usb cable to my computer by following the instructions in the video, my atv then began to blink fast and eventually updated to the latest firmware, plug it into the monitor thru hdmi to see the progress, good luck.
