And he’s not playing as just goofy either. We’ll see when it premieres but just from this trailer I’m getting the vibe that Sokka is gonna be comedic but still retain his wisdom and seriousness for when the moment needs it. Which is what the original character was. Funny but with layers and real personality to the character and not just quips or going the complete opposite route. Like I said we’ll see when it premiers but if I’m right then that’s a good sign of good directing and understanding the characters well which the movie was well known for failing at😅
Yes!!! 100%. Sokka was my favorite with a close 2nd being Toph. The "other movie" was disappointing on so many levels but the hollowness of Sokka in it had me so disappointed.
This is why It's bad to hear other people's comment without seeing for yourself. I don't see anything wrong with this trailer ❤Weldone Netflix you put so much effort to bring this alive
Legitimately shed a tear, this show is one of the few that defined childhood for a lot of people. To see it in this new format, regardless of any changes, is going to be incredible.

Tbh the cartoon still holds up and they even remastered the soundtrack of season one. 2D animation done well is actually timeless 😊. I'm just excited to see it in a new medium, same story, new way of telling it 😊!
Then why is it showing what looked like Gyatso getting attacked by fire nation troops. I dont remember that from Book 1. Or Azula wielding a bow? Dunno who that was SUPPOSED to be, but i doubt she had much use for a bow in the cartoon
@user-bl6oj1hl8i new scenes, they are going to show some back story when the firenation started their conquest of the air nation and its supposed to tie into the final fight at the end between Ozai and Aang 🧐
They really went out their way and created a top 3 best live action movie ever, it’s always rare when an animation being converted into a movie is actually spot on 💯💯
yeah i agree with you. i do hope they will have goofiness but i remember this one scene where they both were being so silly they bonked their heads. wouldn't be surprised if they don't have that in the life action bc ouch 😂

What I like about is how the cast sounded exactly like kids. They portray one important core of this show: how kids realize the world is not just a playground, but a mess need to be taken care of.
Im not a big fan of the voice from the actor of Sokka. In the show he was more bright and voice cracky and teenager like. But he gives big sokka vibes so I can look past the not so perfect voice. ^^
@@dojando6003i think its bc sokka in the show had more “goofy” humor whereas this version is more sarcastic humor. And tbf that really is the only way they could do sokka, trying to paste cartoon humor into live action would just look ridiculous, in a bad way.
We are in the beginning stages of the golden era of visual media. Mark my words, we used to dream of companies making live action adaptation and NOT CHANGING ANYTHING about the outfits, character designs, scenery. Its honestly surreal.
I went into this cautiously optimistic. And I still am cautious. But this looks incredible. It’s been almost 20 years… but we might finally be getting a worthy live action adaptation of the greatest animated show of all time
I was disappointed in this trailer, until how beautiful and cinematic the scene of the blue mask and aang fighting on the bridge looked. Everything after that impressed me!
I MIGHT ACTUALLY EXPLODE. I haven't been this excited for a tv show... ever?! The bending looks great, the characters look great, the world looks FANTASTIC. I got chills and I hope for all the best for this show's future.
i hope the actors/actress there is a full MONGOLOID FAMILY. i mean it's okay if it's European or American by nationality. the thing is, the ethnic, need to be from mongoloid race. east asian, native American, turkic, malay, indian..
@@DBT1007 I don't know if they're of mongolian descent... but they are all asian. It's important to remember that avatar is BASED on asian culture but it's not our geographic world so there is no way to trully know what each character's ethnicity would be on earth. I am not of mongolian descent to say if it is ideal as is, but as a fan of the show i think they do look the part of their characters (unlike the movie we don't talk about) :D
I know it’s not entirely like the anime but I’m glad how they changed Azula. Going from psychopath to a more complex character. Same with Bumi. His reaction to Aangs return was more realistic. But that’s just me.
So far, the trailers look really nice, and the CGI doesn't disappoint. The only thing I'm still worried about is whether the show is gonna be as funny and goofy as the original. I get that the show has grown as well as the audience, but for me, the comedy was still a huge aspect.
Then watch the animated show again lmao ? If this show is more serious with a few fun moments which is obvious to have, your comment is just stupid lmao
The fact you have the minor characters in it, the weird animal hybrids, and sokkas funny side- already 100 times better than the movie. Im actually crying. Pls do my childhood justice
The original is such a special thing and there won't be anything quite like it, but as someone who loves it dearly, this looks amazing and I'm pretty excited
Stop throwing out important scenes from original! Especially when Aang is learning bending other than air. The first season shows almost none of his effort learning waterbending when there were a lot of scenes showing his effort to master waterbending in the original! Stop unnecessary drama and stop cutting out IMPORTANT SCENES!!! Production team, listen to me! As one of the biggest fan of Avatar, a cartoon that I have watched when I was in middle school, the only complaint I have is above, the rest are perfect, perhaps more acting skills needed but PLEASE DON’T CUT OUT SCENES WHEN AANG LEARNING BENDING, IT’S IMPORTANT!
That’s actually something that gives me a lot of optimism for the show. That scene is significant narratively because it shows how well Aang and Zuko work together, and it foreshadows Zuko’s change. In the Shyamalan movie, Aang and Zuko fought independently, defeating the purpose of the scene. In this, they are clearly having the two rely on teamwork, and to me, that indicates they not only saw the scenes, but understand what makes them important.
@@PikaLink91aang supposed to be like that after he lost everything. They showed his vulnerable side in this trailer which why he needs to save the world
@@mynameisfiveseven6584 No, there is no defending that delivery. I have seen the show, I know Aang's character, but that delivery was just... sorry, can you repeat that?
@@PikaLink91 Chill, this is season one. He lost everything, I think season 2-3 would cover up mostly on him overcoming the burden inside him. Remember Book 3 of ATLA.
What I love about the actors, is that they portray the characters uniquely, in a way where they sound almost identical to the (VA's), but not soo much in a way where its very cartoonish and silly. Its done just right!
All of Sokka's lines here seem to be delivered very quickly, like he came up for air and is getting it out before diving back underwater. If that's a thing across the whole show it's gonna really bug me. Absolutely love how much bending the showed. And how crisply Katara pronouces "Aang". I choose to believe it's intentionally calling out the movie lol.
What first movie? There isn't a first movie, there never had been one. As far as I know this is the first Avatar live action, so what movie could you be talking about?
The casting for Uncle Iroh already looks great, without even hearing his dialogues. To me personaly Uncle Iroh is one of the most important characters of the entire show. He was the true father to Zuko, and never wanted to harm anybody, he was allways defending himself and his nefew.
Sooo I dont wanna ruin your picture of Iroh but he was one of the mos feared firebenders in the world of avatar and was serving in the fire nations military as a general and commander. He conquered much land and probably also killed and captured many innocent people. So to say he never wanted to hurt someone is pretty ... lets call it falttering xD BUT he changed after his own son died. And after that, I agree with you, he is one of the most iconic and important characters. And all the little details that are hidden inside the show that show how much he cares about Zuko and helping him is just amazing.
I had just binge-watched this two days straight and I had a great time! I was so invested in the plot and characters. It’s nice to relive a childhood show with a serious vibe to it
I am Genuinely amazed how much Daniel Dae Kim looks like Fire Lord Ozai in this footage, props to the costume and casting departments, everyone looks awesome and captures alot of the characters' vibes
i absolutely adore the casting for uncle iroh and zuko. They look exactly how i’d expect them in real life. Actually impressed so far with this live action take
I’ll be needing “ Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang.” - Katara , in the beginning of at least the 1st ep
To be realistic though, people will be pretty disappointed if they expect a word-for-word remake, it's just an adaptation after all. When you adapt a book into a movie you don't have word-for-word narration included, or it would be miserable to sit through.
This looks amazing. As a 31 year old man that watched the original show aired in Nickelodeon between 2005 and 2008 when I was 12 years old, I loved it. I couldn't be happier, especially with the music and how bending looks. Hopefully the show reflects everything we've seen on this trailer.
I'm 32 and feel the exact same way. This has always been my favorite cartoon I even rewatched with my 11 year old daughter like 4 years ago and she loved it I even liked the movie the made before but this is on a whole other level of awesome I was choking up a bit hearing the soundtrack.
I'm 31 and honestly this doesn't look good to me. It's just M Night in HD lol I'll stick with the animation. Especially because the original creators had nothing to do with this.
Haha I be there 36, 6 days after this comes out. I was watching this trailer with a huge smile on my face, my wife was looking at me like a I had 10 heads 😂😂😂. I CANNOT wait for this
Just today i was watching the last Episodes again when Aang got into his full power and Zuko really acepting who he is fighting against Azula . I am 36 💁🏻♀️😁 still love this show 🌞 I am looking forward to the live action
Of course it's only based on 2 or 3 lines, but I think the guy playing Sokka may just be nailing the tone of Sokka perfectly. Even his voice is very similar 😊 and for all the people saying "he's too low energy", yall acting like the over-the-top humor especially in book 1 wasn't made for 10 year olds lol of course live-action Sokka is gonna be toned down slightly, it would come off as cheesy in live-action like some straight to Disney Channel hannah montana movie. This show isn't made for 10 year olds, it's made for the ADULTS who grew up loving the cartoon when we WERE 10 year olds lol
They've said it's not a 1:1 adaptation, there are going to be some small differences, some scenes shown that weren't in the original , ect. But it sounds like they really want it to be close to a 1:1 remake just with added stuff to make it more detailed and better explain certain things , or showcase fights that weren't
@@arramiscastellon6168 First, it was said to be toned down, not removed. Second, it's something that gets resolved within the first few episodes of the series, the adaptation won't necessarily be ruined if Sokka isn't portrayed as sexist at the start. If you're going to be cynical about every little change they're making, save it for Feb 22, when we can actually watch it.
@@C0NFUSEDYT What about the situation with Pakku? You're telling me that has something to do with Sokka as a character? Remember that we are SOLELY talking about Sokka. First few episodes, that IS when he meets Suki. Specifically, it's the 4th episode.

I'm so glad Nexflix finally understood the key to success: making adaptations true to the source material with a good cast. There's no need to make major changes.
Changes are needed. Before they just did too much in the wrong areas, while keeping the wrong things too true to the original. Ed in Cowboy Beebob is a perfect example. It just didn't, and literally couldn't, work in live action. Not with staying that true to the character. In one piece they nailed it. They kept the original spirt and ideas alive of the show and characters. While making what changes needed to be made for the jump to live action. It seems they may hit that balance again. Lets hope.
You do get it. Just like the first episode of the Nickelodeon show. Same intro even. Water, earth, fire ,air. It’s explained what happened in the past just like the animated show. Not word for word. Maybe it’s not Katara talking either. Paused it right after that intro because I remembered this comment. But it’s there.

also, i hope THE ACTORS/ACTRESS THERE IS A FULL MONGOLOID RACE PEOPLE. From Indian to Native Americans. from Far East Russian to Indonesian. they're the ones that NEED TO PLAY IN THIS NEW LIVE ACTION SERIES. NO CAUCASIAN, NO AFRICAN ALLOWED HERE. edit: for fire nations, make the majority japanese-korean. for earth kingdom, make it chinese and indochinese and austronesians. austronesians are the ppl of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, etc. they're the ones that should be in the swamp region of earth kingdom. the air temple people obviously the tibetan and the whole himalayan people. the water bender people are the native Americans. the desert people are the TURKS-ARABIC PEOPLE. Yes, turks still part of mongoloid people. mongolia is the big famous example of turkic people. but I talk about the majority. so, they can put some minoritities there. like.. indian-looking person in the fire nation is okay. or the east asian-looking person with their white skin can be in the northern/southern pole is okay. Bumi himself, need to be a MALAY PERSON. Because the name. but either malay or indian. since "bumi" word came from India that later adopted by malay language too. i talk about MALAY. Not Malaysia btw. edit2: yes, this(avatar) world is "racist". but it's what the author of this world made. the author make the world of avatar full with MONGOLOID PEOPLE. so it's "Racist" but in a good way. because stick to the original story.
The casting was done so well and the special effects and CGI is great. The only thing I would want for season 2 and beyond is better wardrobe, hair and makeup. The wigs 😭😭. But overall amazing! Iroh is still the lovable, jolly and wise uncle who loves and protects Zuko.

I really love the part when Aang is crying because he is afraid of not being strong enough and doesn’t want to take the responsibility to safe the world. I think his emotional state wasn’t presented well enough in the cartoon due to the fact that it was more for children. Im so excited!!
He ran away from his people and froze himself in an iceberg, when he found out he had to basically give up his childhood to become the avatar, woke up 100 years later and almost destroyed everything when he found out his home and everyone he care about was destroyed. He expressed himself just fine imo
At first, i was like “this ain’t gon work” but during the series I laughed so hard, goy emotional and cried 😭 After all it’s like don’t judge a book by its cover. Worth watching 🥰
I’ve been hoping that they don’t just make a serious, melodramatic version of the pure perfection that is the show. After seeing the children laughing when momo lands on sokka’s head, I felt a sight of relief.
I have been keeping my expectations really low, because ATLA is so special to me and I was not about to be disappointed again, but this looks so good! Tears actually came to my eyes. Looks like Netflix did right by our beloved characters. Casting, costumes and bending effects all on point. Now just keeping my fingers crossed that the writing and storytelling also pan out. Finally allowing myself to be excited about this 😊
That’s literally what you should do with most things bro 😂. If you have high expectations you’re going to be more than likely disappointed. Compared to if you start off with lower and they blow your expectations out of the water.
While the characters won’t sound 100% like the original voice cast I’m more than pleased with the look and feel of each of the characters. They are doing the full story and not short changing us. I love it

Best thing about the original is if this Netflix show isn't
good will we still have that.
My family and I have watched the entire series many, many times over the years. As you said, it's really something special.
Yes, we can always fall back to the masterpiece M. Night Shyamalan left us 💖
I feel that the best way to enjoy a show or movie based on another is to pretend that that came first
Stop throwing out important scenes from original!
The Blue Spirit helping Aang escape is one of my favorite scenes in the animated series. Excited to see that they did that in the live version.
it looks soooo sick :O
That and the final fight between aang and the fire lord. I CANT WAIT.
I loved sokka started hallucinating in the desert 😂
Same! It was such a scene because that was the first moment Aang and Zuko didn't fight each other but together

All of Sokka's lines here seem to be delivered very quickly, like he came up for air and is getting it out before diving back underwater. If that's a thing across the whole show it's gonna really bug me.

Movie? what movie....
There are no movies in Ba Sing Se.
So to say he never wanted to hurt someone is pretty ... lets call it falttering xD
BUT he changed after his own son died. And after that, I agree with you, he is one of the most iconic and important characters. And all the little details that are hidden inside the show that show how much he cares about Zuko and helping him is just amazing.
Iroh is half of avatar. You take out iroh and the show is permanently incomplete

Hearing Aang’s name finally pronounced right is like music to my ears
You don't like AUHHNG? 😂
@@jackyyk6371it was soooo bad omg 😂😂😂😂
Absolutely!!
Aang is an Asian name. It is literally pronounced “Ong”
@@user-pd9ju5dk5swhat kind of Asian that pronounces Aang as "Ong"?
I really love the part when Aang is crying because he is afraid of not being strong enough and doesn’t want to take the responsibility to safe the world. I think his emotional state wasn’t presented well enough in the cartoon due to the fact that it was more for children. Im so excited!!
He ran away from his people and froze himself in an iceberg, when he found out he had to basically give up his childhood to become the avatar, woke up 100 years later and almost destroyed everything when he found out his home and everyone he care about was destroyed. He expressed himself just fine imo
@@cheezuschrist both shows completely presented in the same way of the emotional state. I totally agree with you
The show was a cartoon, but I don't feel like children were exclusively the intended audience. That show had some incredibly powerful moments.
At first, i was like “this ain’t gon work” but during the series I laughed so hard, goy emotional and cried 😭 After all it’s like don’t judge a book by its cover. Worth watching 🥰
It was good. I was surprised
Whoever is playing Sokka, I'm sold. That guy nails Sokka.
ian ousley 🌟
Nails the sarcastic remarks lol!
I agree!
Katara... not so much 😑
Goosebumps at 1:48, the bending looks so sick i love the pacing and energy. EPIC!
Katara's waterbending looks so cool!
LITERALLY
If only M Night Shyalaman could time travel and see this, things might have been different.
I got chills seeing Aang in the Avatar State. That HAS to be when he sees Gyatso. Gearing up for the heartbreak. AGAIN.
@@1angrykoalaThats a paradox because would this exist if Shame-a-lon nailed it?
I’ve been hoping that they don’t just make a serious, melodramatic version of the pure perfection that is the show. After seeing the children laughing when momo lands on sokka’s head, I felt a sight of relief.
Where is TOPH
@@mixemup.Season 2
She doesn't show up until book 2. It looks like they're only doing book 1 so far@@mixemup.
@@mixemup. Toph is in book 2
@@mixemup. If they do it the same way the series did, toph is a mid season 2 addition, this is almost all just season 1 stuff in the trailer.
The movie was great..underrated..
I’m still skeptical, the original creators dipped out for a reason. But this did raise my hopes, I’ll give it that.
I know I held my breath during the whole trailer. I still have not forgiven M. Night for the hot mess that was the last movie.
Didn’t ask: my content is better 😂
@@alexw4482Yeah, same, but these trailers have made me believe!
While the characters won’t sound 100% like the original voice cast I’m more than pleased with the look and feel of each of the characters. They are doing the full story and not short changing us. I love it
I think sokka sounds the closet to them all. And June was a home run with casting (except iroh and cabbage man as they were the original voice actors)
Like One Piece Live Action, lucky One Piece fans get good live action adaption.
It's a shame that the actor lied about his origin and stole the job from someone who deserved it. @@whodat1017
@@whodat1017Can see why Iroh was down bad
wait until they reveal their genders and whole alphabet pronounce.😂😂
Imagine being apart of that generation two decades ago. We never knew it would come to this but couldn’t be happier of how far this series has come. To many more years and many new fans! Thanks Avatar may this be successful and memorable as the original was!
I'm a 34yr old Millennial who watched the original series. I'll be watching this with my 11yr old daughter. She's obsessed with Avatar and knows all the lore and back stories
Avatar brought the whole family to the TV whenever it was on, when I was a kid.
Born in the year 2000, 2 year of the dragons ago. Grew up watching the best cartoon to ever air on television. The only one to have EVER beaten SpongeBob for best cartoon in the KCA. And to this day make quotes, reference scenes, and fondly remember when my parents, big sister, and I all sat down excited to watch the big climatic series finale🌪️🌊⛰️🔥!
Lmao 😂 how can you even be you be hyped for this crap. Clearly looks like a flop and poorly made. Let's see who's comment will age like milk. Yours or mine
The soundTRACKKKKKKKKKK!!! 🔥
That last part chaka chaka chaka when aang was activating avarar form had me stood up❤
