Pair that rod up with a line that has more stretch like a copoly or mono. The stretch in that line will help to compensate for the faster action on the rod. Also don't really set the hook super hard. Let the rod load up, reel into the fish, and sweep the hook set.
Honestly I'm late to the party, about 4 years late. But that's okay cuz I almost caught up with all your videos now and I just started watching this fall. Sorry I'm late to the party but glad I found you, I got to say though the beard Barn sounds way better than the bass cave
I had to revisit this vid because I'm trying to decide on a new crankbait rod! Since you helped me decide on my swimbait rod(dobyns fury thanks again love it) so I'm trying to chose between the 7-11 david fritts perfect crankbait rod or the 9ft collapsible!? Thanks for all your info brother!
@@AlexRuddFishing will do thanks again brother! Keep doing what you do and I keep spreading the word( you gotta check out Alex Rudd's youtube! I tell all my bros!) Have a great day bro!
Alex, been watching your vids for a while now always good info. Especially this one newer to bass fishing and love to crank. As far as the new area i think tou should call it THE BASS BUNKER.
Great points, lately I've been smashing fish on wake baits (kvd 2.5 wake, mann 1-, and going to be trying the berkley surge shad soon). My 7ft m moderate couldnt keep that bait on top. Picked up a lews perfect crankbait 7.6 mh moderate to keep that bait on top.
Great video. I like the break down of gear for specific technique. Would like to hear what gear u use for other techniques as well. Would make a great mini series. Thanks
@@AlexRuddFishing Yea man...I know dudes here in GA that own those enclosures WITHOUT insulation and let me tell you...you cant spend but 5 min in that piece in the summer before your wanting to bust out some Hot Yoga!! If you wanna spend any time in them, you have to roll dawn and dusk. That's it! lol
Great info and breakdown for folks! You're right, those David Fritts rods are awesome! I found them on sale for $49 and it done great! Thanks for what you do in the community!
I’d call it the bass bunker. Right now I’m only rocking one cranking setup but I’m looking to get another one once all the deals start popping up later this year. Nice video Alex 👊🏻
Awesome video as always. I need to catch up on your live show recordings - grad school stuff has been time consuming the last couple weeks. Thanks for posting! As for the garage, I’m feeling creative so: the Bearded Bass Buster’s Bodacious Boat Bunker.
Bomb it down the fairway! I use a 7’4 medium crankin Duckett white ice 2 and a Duckett micro 7’11 medium heavy crankin for my crankin setups paired with them killer Lews BB1 pros. Far as the name for the new spot. Maybe Redbeard’s tackle cave? Lol
Absolutely love the video and descriptions of your setups. Quick question...I know you mentioned the line weights for each combo but I'm curious as to what the line materials are. Are you using straight flouro in these, copolymer, mix of each, etc. Thanks for any info. and keep up the awesome videos.
Thanks for the tips man, I am looking to get into doing some crankbaits soon so this was helpful. Do you think you could do a video on crankbaits specifically?
I really like the tutorial videos. What is the rod length and the action on the rod that had the chatter bait on it? I been fishing a lot with chatter baits for the last week and the bass have been killing it. As always keep up the good work.
As always Alex another great video🤙🤙, I'm looking to purchase a couple Lew's Tournament Pro reels, I was at Cabela's the other day and was checking those out, what's ur thoughts on those reels, Thanks
Currently getting deeper into bass fishing and starting to do some local tournaments with friends if you had to recommend say three combos and different rods what would you recommend
Thanks again for the info brother!! So i'm getting back into fishing after my father passed last November i was looking for a A-rig small swimbait and deep crank rod and was actually wanting the 7-11ft or the 9ft fritts cranking rod but the reviews noted problems with the guides? I trust your opinion after watching countless hours of your channel(favorite pass time). And do you think the fritta rod with work for those baits? Thanks for any info!
I would go with the Lews Super Duty 4 for small swimbaits and rigs. Then a 7’11 Fritts for deep cranks. I’ve heard about the guide issue with the Fritts rods. I’ve never had that issue. I have three of them.
Alex Rudd Fishing oh yeah and I tried my Classic Pro this weekend. Worked good with the choppo 90 and 105 size. Casting distance wasn’t the best, but I think it was me and the braid, not the reel. I’m waiting for my last Lew’s reel. A Hank Parker speed spool, but Walmart has screwed me twice.
I know you did this video around 4 months ago and I apologize for the late comment, but I’m wanting to know when you are selecting a rod to use for your Squarebills/Crankbaits, do you take into account the rods “lure weight rating”? For instance, you have a 3/8oz lure, which is lighter than 1/2oz, would you throw it using a rod that has a “lure weight rating” 1/2 - 1-3/8?
Cool! Appreciate the quick reply and the info. The reason I had asked is because I have the David Fritts LDFP76MHP which is the 7-6 MH power Mod action rod and it’s lure rating starts at 1/2oz. When I try and throw a 3/8oz Squarebill, the tip feels “bouncy” after I cast and before the lure hits the water. I have 12lb fluorocarbon spooled on the reel which is my Lew’s Tournament MB 5.6:1.
I dont like those reels. Give me a small spinner with a tiny shaft so it holds big yardage. Supports up for a 200 lb fish. Will need excellent cooling and materials. Use for bass and shark. Where is it?
LewmaTown: I know it's kinda cheesy. Lew for Lew's and AlumaCraft.....Town for Old Town....maybe a start of something different from the worn out cave names
If you can't afford to buy a new rod specifically for cranking, how can you increase your chances with a typical MH Fast action rod?
Pair that rod up with a line that has more stretch like a copoly or mono. The stretch in that line will help to compensate for the faster action on the rod. Also don't really set the hook super hard. Let the rod load up, reel into the fish, and sweep the hook set.
Awesome! I typically fish mono anyway
Like Alex said, monofilament line or copolymer. For copolymer line, I have it on everything except my frogging rod and spinning rods. I love it.
You can get a david Frits cranking rod at Walmart for $46 when they have them in stock

For instance, you have a 3/8oz lure, which is lighter than 1/2oz, would you throw it using a rod that has a “lure weight rating” 1/2 - 1-3/8?
It all depends on the rod. I found that most rods are under or over rated for lure weight. I just put the rod in my hand and see what it can do.
