To answer your question about why the passwords were removed in the US version, it was to prevent people from beating the game on a rented copy. Game rentals were pretty much made illegal in the early 80s in Japan, while remained legal in the US despite companies like Nintendo's efforts. As a result, to encourage to people to buy games rather than rent them, Japanese developers increased the difficulty of certain games, and removed the save and continue options in others. That way, the games would be harder to beat in single sittings or during the length of a rental.
@MegaSfinx because with no way to rent a game in japan, it would be seen as a boost to a games marketability to save and be beatable since you dont have to worry about your bottom line being effected by the game being easy to breeze through on a rental that nets the company a smaller long term profit then physical purchases, so in japan, the saving is there to give better value in a situation where you cant get the game for cheap, while in america they remove the feature to make you want to either rent the game longer or buy it at a later date, capcom did this trick with Resident Evil as well.
Snesdrunk, I watched this video for the first time in October last year. That same day I purchased Bonkers CIB from Japan for 12,000 yen (91 dollars) It sat in my collection until I just beat it today. Amazing game, totally worth playing today!
So TAHT's where that song came from. The background music that starts 1:50 was used in the Chinese bootleg SNES Pikachu's adventure. Makes way more sense.
Nice, I just bought this game the other day for like 50 cents(in Japan) it seems like a typical platformer but this insight makes me want to play it more so thanks for that. Also I noitced the music from a bootleg Pokemon game on SNES that JonTron once played, which means they took it from this game. Neat.
Keep up the good work man, been watching for a few months now and this is great entertainment and quality! Good choices of games, as well - unfortunately I cannot afford being a patreon but I'm glad that you're able to keep giving us great content! Hoping for more Let's Plays from you soon as well. I, myself, just got Streets of Rage 2 for Sega. Never played it myself but there was nothing I wanted more than I was a kid, so I'm damn excited for some 2p action with the ol' wifey tonight! Again, cheers and thanks, sir!
I have memories of getting this game used, i think. I was 4, my mom got it for me and my brother at Rogers video back when that was still a thing in canada. I think we got a used copy because i remember it coming without a box, but instead sealed in a plastic you have to cut open with scissors. I dont think it came with a manual either. The 3 of us went home, learned the controls, made it to the first boss and had no idea how or when we could deal damage to him lol We struggled for about an hour on the boss portion of the level alone. We didnt have internet in 1999. It was the first time i asked my mom for help with a game, and she had no clue what to do, but she didnt like seeing us so disappointed not being able to make it any further in the new game, so she struggled through it and beat the ghost to our amazement. Shit like that, I’ll never forget from my childhood. And to think we almost decided on that road runner death valley game instead LOL
This first time I beat it At my cousin’s house I remember thinking, “wait, that was it?” The music is has such a unique quality to it and the bosses have their own personality.
Great review like always :) I hope that one day you could review all super nintendo dodge ball games. I think there is at least four of them if not more. Kunio-Kun no Dodge Ball Dayo Zenin Shuugo!, Battle dodge ball 1-2 and Honoo no Doukyuuji: Dodge Danpei.
Obviously there are no passwords in the North American version, because this was still coming off the heels of the big Blockbuster rental case. Nintendo was notorious for making sure that many NA versions of games were harder than their Japanese counterparts. They wanted to make sure people were still incentivised to purchase games, rather than just renting them and beating them in one weekend.
This was supposed to be a Rogers Rabbit cartoon but they couldn't use the character's for some reason so they made a Roger Rabbit show with different characters.
Wonder why this and Goof Troop weren't included in The Disney Afternoon Collection. They're also Capcom games. Wish Capcom made the Gargoyles game instead of what we got for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
I remember playing the rom for this back in the day and finding it pretty mediocre, but in the game's defense I didn't play it for very long. I might have to revisit this sometime.
I only know about this game because it was compressed and reverse engineered to hell and back before being used for Pokémon and Digimon homebrew titles.
for me the strangest thing about this game is that its source code is often lifted and used for quite a handful of bootleg snes games, you might even recognize some of the music if you've ever seen JonTron's Bootleg Pokemon video

etansivad I noticed that crazy music, too. The last song in the video is also used in the fire stage in the bootleg.
etansivad yep, didn't know where that music was from when I watched jontron's vid until now
I enjoy playing this game back in the day in 2009 and then played in last year ago it was totally worth the wait
It's Picachu WITH AN C

Yeah, a lot of SNES bootlegs, especially ports of Gamtec stuff like Pocket Monsters or Squirrel King use Bonkers music for some reason
Jim Cummings was also the voice of Cat in CatDog.
And Winne the Poh and many many other characters, Such a great voice talent
Man, I love when you review one of my childhood games. Good job.
I was looking for something good to watch. Thanks for all the great work!

He's got a Sonic Hedgehog "spinning legs" effect when he dashes.
I have memories of getting this game used, i think.

I only know this game for it’s soundtrack, which is in a lot of bootleg SNES games
A game about a bobcat falling on hard times on the Super Nintendo... What could possibly go wrong?
Compared to the crap we got on the Sega Genesis in terms of Bonkers, this one is a masterpiece!
Great channel man. Glad i found it
Is the music in this game the same as the music in the Pokemon Pikachu hack that Jontron reviews?
Yes
Suddenly dark wing ducks cameo in bonkers makes way more sense now .
Reminds me of the tiny tunes adventure for nes, obviously much better graphics, but the enemies and levels feel very similar.
I love watching bonkers
I looked this up specifically to hear your review. Something about this game always stuck out to me but I also hated how hard it was for me as a kid.
This first time I beat it At my cousin’s house I remember thinking, “wait, that was it?” The music is has such a unique quality to it and the bosses have their own personality.

I'm currently watching Bonkers on Disney+.
Awesome thanks
Miss this game, used to rent it from Blockbuster as a kid!
I'm instantly reminded of Buster Busts Loose only slower.
Love these vids!
such an awesome game. brings back memories of 2008.

Pretty simialar to tiny toon

Isn't that the background music from the Bootleg Pokemon game JonTron did like 3 years ago?
Yes
I think a Soldiers of Fortune review would be worthwhile. Any chance of it happening?
Wow, wouldn't have thought this one would be good! You never hear people talking about it.
The game was released in Japan but not the show. Bonkers animations were very great. i play this on Wii U.
Very good game and tv show in the 90s snes drunk I love ur videos Aiden
Wonder why this and Goof Troop weren't included in The Disney Afternoon Collection. They're also Capcom games. Wish Capcom made the Gargoyles game instead of what we got for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
I love your videos!!! Can you do a video review about Warlock? This game is so obscure xD
Now I want this game
I remember playing the rom for this back in the day and finding it pretty mediocre, but in the game's defense I didn't play it for very long. I might have to revisit this sometime.
You weren't wrong; it is a mediocre game. Currently playing it and the gameplay feels cheap and unresponsive.
This looks a lot like Tiny Toons Buster Busts Loose
Yeah, even the wind up and run function is similar, not to mention the general size and shape of the controllable sprite
How about Clayfighter or Claymates for SNES? I remember having both games as a kid.
amazing video! nice game
Do Bonkers on Sega, please.
Can you review the inspector gadget snes game??
I only know about this game because it was compressed and reverse engineered to hell and back before being used for Pokémon and Digimon homebrew titles.
Jungle book was brick of a game to play. Child friendly my butt balloo.
Could you please cover the itchy and scratchy snes game? Was just watching footage and it looks pretty fun though maybe repetitive.
Wouldnt be surprised if they removed the password feature because of the rental stuff
This game is like totally bonkers!
How much do we have to pay in order for you to make a review video?
But is there a dash that makes me breakfast?
dude this is music from the boot leg Pokémon game from Jon Tron!!!!!!!
Enjoyed this game, but the final boss kicked my ass so many times.
Hey can you do a review on the inspector gadget snes game?
Okay ua-cam.com/video/3zSvjDQrcJc/v-deo.html
Yes this cartoon is really good
There's a pokemon game in snes with the first background song haha
Beat it in about 30 to 45 minutes? Man, that just makes me realize how terrible I am at old SNES games.
I used to watch the show but unfortunately never came across this game.
He's a lynx. :)
Bought this from the flee market ages ago.
It looks a lot like the Animaniacs game.
bro im a big fan of your channel, the only thing i hate is the SNNNNNNES drunk at the begining is so weird and annoying
for me the strangest thing about this game is that its source code is often lifted and used for quite a handful of bootleg snes games, you might even recognize some of the music if you've ever seen JonTron's Bootleg Pokemon video
Isn’t there a connection between Bonkers and Roger Rabbit?
Very surprising. I thought it was going to be crap for sure.
BubSYS brother
Did Capcom ever make a bad Disney game?
Nope but Talespin comes close.
They probably took out passwords to screw over blockbuster and rentals
All Cops Are Bonkers
30$ game 2021
What about the suicide button?
You know what's a terrible game that does not represent it's source material well? Eek the Cat. Woh man, what a terrible game.
Yeah, that game is garbage!
ugh bonkers is just so annoying. Remembering his voice. Makes me want to stay away from the game.
