What do you prefer and why?
Fox, I'm a sucker for the kashima.
Both forks are great though. Can't go wrong with either so might as well choose the one you think looks best ... unless you're able to test em both and prefer the feel of one over the other.
What do I prefer? Fox 40 lol. I'm a DH bike guy but definitely am a FOX guy so it would probably be the 38 if I had to choose. I love the 4 way adjustability of the Grip 2 damper. Only thing I would change if I got the 38 would be black stanchions with the Grip 2 instead of the Kashima.
DVO Onyx SC... 😬. Haven't been on Zeb or 38, Onyx was a big upgrade from a Lyrik or 36 though.
Nice job guys.
My Fox 36 loves to leak/blow seals way more than the RS Pike on my other bike.
To answer the question, I dig the Zebs looks more and that the seals last longer, so that gets my vote.
Doesn't hurt its not quite so expensive either!
Ohlins RXF38. It just is the best.
I feel like you boys are on the verge of blowing up ... You're at your best when you let your personalities show and you're just having fun with your boys. The most successful channels seem to have that in common. They show good and bad, highs and lows. Keep pushing guys, it's a grind but you guys are close. Consistent upload schedules make a huge difference with the algo now too, so maybe you can come up with a theme ... Kinda like Seth's current one where he's repairing and sellling older bikes, or when Matt Jones did his backyard trail build. The key to it is consistency. Maybe you can teach one of your friends how to ride or start of with a newer rider and show their progression. As sick as it is watching pro level riders, most guys at the top (Seth, BKXC, Sampler, etc) started out pretty much as average riders. The audience can envision themselves and there's a certain connection. Seth did a movie in Whistler where he did just that. Wasn't a series, just a single episode, but a lotta channels will have just one video with a newer rider. They're always good episodes and you could see the views on this types are good. Even in the comments with Matt Jones, he got his friend Ben into it (who just rode BMX) and people are asking for more.
Probably drank too much and I'm rambling, just an idea though. Been watching MTB on UA-cam since like 2015 and I can count on one hand the channels I always watch all their videos when they pop up. You guys are on that list, especially since you're riding trails I could drive to usually (go to Killington btw, and we need a BC or Southwest trip for the buds one of these days)!
Thanks for the comment! We are trying our best to stay consistent with quality uploads! Hopefully it pays off one of these days🙏
BC trip was supposed to happen this year but wasn’t possible due to the border restrictions. Would like to make that trip out west happen next year or maybe even this fall. Who knows, things can change quick for us!
100% This. You guys started making vids at least a year after us, but you're way ahead in subs. You consistently push out vids, you ride great, and you guys are fun to watch. Wishing you guys the best of luck!
Thank you🙏❤️
It was good to finally meet you guys. We met in the parking lot at Snowshoe last weekend. If you're looking to get more life from your forks, try Seal Savers. I've used them for years on my motocross bikes and they work great. As a test, I went for 2 1/2 seasons of hare scramble racing before I had to rebuild my forks vs. Twice a season.
Stripped out the fender bolt threads as well on my Zeb, ordered 2mm longer stainless steel screws put just a little bit Loctite 243 on the threads and boom.. zero issues so far!
I’ve had marzocchi, dvo, and a zeb and tbh they all get the job done and it’s not something a casual rider should stress over in my opinion.
Agreed 🙌
Yup. They're all great forks, comes down to aesthetics and price for most people, not performance.
I like the look of the ZEB, I like that it's kinda sleek and stealthy looking lol
Great review! I read an opinion, that the weakest part of FOX 36 was a crown, so giving 38 stations doesn't do much with the overall stiffness. The fork flexibility can be seen in video 0:50-0:51 when the fork fluctuates after the jump.
I did want to go with the ZEB only for the lower cost and poppy feel but I also really love the fox 38 with the grip2 and I love adjusting my bike to anything.
Great comparison guys!
I have both and a DVO onyx but I like a lot on my ZEB in the bike park and very technical trail the Zeb will stand out but that’s my opinion
Love the vid!
Have Suntour, Marz, Xfusion, 36 and the Lyrik.
All good sans the Xfusion, a tad soft.
Here in Singapore, 38 or Zeb is just overkill unless users travel THAT often to enjoy the rougher terrain elsewhere.
Thanks for watching and commenting🤘
Nice, I’ll probably try out DVO
I've tried both. I like the zeb better. I think it has better small bump sensitivity, better support, and it's easier to set up. I prefer rockshox stuff in general because it just doesn't take that much effort to get it to feel really nice. In addition, their products are FAR more reliable. I've missed service intervals by quite a bit on my rs stuff and it has never felt anything less than butter. The 38 PE that came on my enduro, on the other hand, just always felt a little harsh, no matter how much I messed with it. Put a zeb on and it just instantly felt so much nicer.
My Fox 36 lasted about 20 rides and went to shizz. Going 2023 Zeb.
What is both of your weights and how have you set up each fork? rebound, lsc and hsc settings and psi?
Watching at work...grabbed my cellphone just to subscribe! Sender!
Thanks bud🤘
So basically they are both very good, in my opinion you can buy either of these forks and be happy, it’s all about the tuning and they are both highly tuneable so if you want to say which one is better you can’t.
A better investment is a 36 or Lyrik....both of which have won more EWS stages than anything else....and are easier to live with for trail riding.
I rock a fox 36 on my switchblade....thing eats up thunder with no problem. I love the butter feel of Fox
Agreed 🙌🤘
Took my Mach 6 to Thunder this past Thursday/Friday ... First time there, park is insane! And yeah the 36 is a beast. They're both great though. Aesthetically I'm a Fox guy, but performance you really can't go wrong with either.
Would like too see a comparison between the entry level version of each fork and the high end version. For most riders I would say the entry level forks with basic damper is the best option and put the savings into another component.
What were the post shockwiz settings for the 38?
Nice review exept one of you didnt try both shocks to compare the two : /
I prefer rockshox because they are cheaper and need less maintenance. if i could choose any, I would go with marzocchi
Cheaper and less maintenance is always a good choice!
@@Blake_Cherubini thats for sure!
You forgot the RS has stanchion markings to assist in setup. Fox doesn’t.
Had fox 36 and its hard to set up lyrik is a lot better and can feel its small bump sensitivity in the trail
Nice review but would like to have eard more technical stuff like damper differences, physics(progressivety or not), weight, ease of service, coating and how it correlates with friction/durability and also differences to the entry models would make it more interesting
For sure! Definitely could have dove deeper. We’ll keep that in mind for the next one!
Nah that’s all a load of sheit. Your honestly wasting your time..
Once they are setup for weight and style that should be it.
@@Blake_Cherubini please don’t. It’s a rabbit hole of useless information that’s irrelevant to 99.99% of riders.
@@reubs91 if that's not important just ride a rigid
@@reubs91 literally some of the most important things when analysing a suspension, if you mean most riders don't care about knowing what they are riding how to use it or fix it you are right, that's why you should just go and buy the one that looks shiniest and not come watch reviews
Perfect trail/enduro forks for clydesdale riders
Hello! many thanks for video. I am going to order new front fork but still not decided which one. Today, I found many videos in guys were complaining about "fox 38 - is creaking".
Do you have any info about this issue? Is it chance if I will be using 180 front rotor instead of 203mm, I can eliminate chance to create this issue?
many thanks.
It creaks in the CSU
My 38 is going through seals as well and my LBS put zeb seals in saying the fox ones were trash. Everyone they do they put skf back in.
Man every review Ive watched comparing these forks have been drastically different 😂
Roll the dice I guess 😂😂
Both are amazing forks but as far as durability goes doesn't the Rockshox have significantly fewer hours before it needs servicing? And if that's the case doesn't that make the 38's more durable?
Not if he's already blown through two sets of wiper seals on the 38
I heard the zeb have miss alignment issues causing the stanchions to rub against the lowers bushing and over time wearing/fading away the black stanchions. Have you had this issue yet?
Have not seen or heard of this🤷♂️
The Zeb comes with SKF seals stock... so I'm guessing he was just overdue because he just replaced the stock seals with the same seals but in a different color lol.
Haha thanks for pointing this out. We had no idea they came stock. Guess it was just due for some freshies!
they may be still different seals.....
from my experience, forks as new come with wrong amount of grease and oil in the lower legs.... so the lower leg service done properly really brings them to life, even if theyre new ^^
@@tomasstraka5244 SKF only makes one seal for the zeb. Their OEM that comes on the zeb is black, the aftermarket one direct from SKF is the blue color. They are the same seal.
@@Bluelights17 oh really? nice.... you learn every day ^^ thanks for the info mate
i love how the rockshox bike uses a fox shock
Off topic of the vid but what shorts you wearing @blake?
Don’t remember the exact model but they are Specialized brand!
Nice comparison vid guys. I have fox 36(with rc2 damping) in my 29 er yt capra and i have zero issues whatsoever. I think this newest fork and stuff deraillelur etc is stupid expensive and not so maintenance free like a old marzocchi 😂
How do you have a fox fork with rockshox damping
I have a 38 feels too stiff, beats up the arms in long decents definitely not for trail riding
Smells like a setup issue🤷♂️
watch out for your Sag
for me between RS and Fox, RockShox takes win.
when i had a 36 and an X2, the X2 blew out on me twice and had to be warrantied, all within 6months from new. Also from a maintenance POV fox use so many specialist tools that are ridiculously overpriced for removing the legs and then doing damper services on their rear shocks. RockShox you can get away with basic tools.
yes from what I hear ohlins is another level of performance, but your into serious coin to get them.
All good points🙌 thanks for watching and commenting! We’ve blown 5 X2 shocks between the two of us now🥴
Fox doesn’t need any special tools for a lower leg service, the process is identical. Their lower leg removal tools are not needed as you can still use the foot nuts just like any other fork, although they are very good. Ground flat sockets are ideal for both companies, and both require proprietary tools for the dampers but can be done without.
@@Adam-vm8kp the fact fox has designed the lower leg removal with recommended specialised tools is enough to tell the consumer that they are going to have to have deep pockets. Look at the number of specialised tools need to do an x2. Look at the specialist removal tools needed for the fox lower shock mount bearing kit.
Fox seem to adore having $100+ tools for basic maintenance.
@@clarkie005 irrelevant, they are designed to prevent damage to the lower, the foot nuts or the shafts. Rockshox have a tool for their 30mm bearing shock mount too, as well as expensive tools for their shock, fork and posts. I swapped my fit4 damper out for a grip2 a few months ago and fully stripped and rebuild the fit4 to sell it, only fox tool was a chamferless socket.
I love u for this one
Karma. Told everyone I really like fox, proceeded to blow up my X2 yesterday
Did Max do his chores today?
Just a friendly editing tip, bump up those levels a little in post. I can hardly hear your voice at max volume.
I know. It plays back at different levels on every device. Sounds great through headphones when editing. Voice levels aren’t loud enough after uploading. Sorry about that
@@Blake_Cherubini sounds fine here with earbuds
magi-x or gum-x? and why
Magi-x seems to be a bit more durable!
why does it always seem like the people with larger than average social followings are always the ones that end up having unreliable components? I've had the same fox 38 for literally two years, got one about a month after it was released, i''m probably well over-due for a lowers service but even then ive had literally zero issues with the fork. none. it has performed super consistently over the years.
38 “literally” hasn’t even been out that long…
@@Adam-vm8kp it came out early april of 2020. sure, that's not exactly two years but it is close enough when talking about LONG term reliability.
@@dash0173 long term reliability is not waiting for performance to drop before servicing. Regular intervals at 50hrs for a lower leg service, that way it stays in good shape.
@@Adam-vm8kp thats not what i said long term reliability is. it's not having things break left and right, it's doing regular service and having the rest of the system that you don't regularly service still hold up. you don't service dampers very regularly and that is the most complex part of any shock by a long shot so for it not to break in between service intervals is long term reliability
@@dash0173 you’ve had it almost 2 years and haven’t even changed the oil in the lowers. If you have a grip2 like I do which is a semi open damper then it’s very important to change the oil to prevent damage. I do my lowers every 3-6m and the damper every 12m. No point buying a top end fork and losing all that extra performance by leaving in worn, dry or dirty seals and foam rings. Not to mention the damage you could do to the anodising on the uppers or to the bushings. No point saying you want it to last in between service intervals when you’re not servicing it at all 🤷🏻♂️
Rockshox...easier set up. More carefree ownership
🙌💯
Rockshox can be fully serviced at home. Much better. Both are nice. I like being able to do all my work when i need it.
I ride Manitou.
I don't feel thar this is a good comparison as neither of you have experience on the other fork. Definitely smth to check next time
"I chose the Zeb over the 38 because of the looks" kthxbye
The cicadas sabotaged me😑 sorry Buds
Which ever one the brother who falls down or crashes least...
Blake wins the most crashes award. So looks like you need a zeb like Chase
Zeb is far better looking bro! And a ridiculous brake adapter for 200+ rotors on the 38 is a massive blunder, absolute deal breaker wtf Fox we hate those things.
Fox is more premium look the detail are more quality look i find rockshox look cheaper
ROCKSHOX ZEB лайк!
I would have liked you both to ride eachothers bikes for a day and report back..
get DialedMtb Custom Mudguards
zeb is lighter and easier to setup and maintain. im riding zeb 190mm fork / rear rs 190mm travel 500lb spring im a big fan of skf products too
Just stop watching after looks you know what you want 😏
Everyone want that bling bling😏😂
Get a domain, yari, or bomber and get your skills in check, lol
Nah fam this ain’t it🙅♂️
Chevy or Ford? It's subjective
100%
this is completley oposite opinion what I have heard before from another chanal about realability.
I guess that's why they are just opinions lol🤷♂️
@@Blake_Cherubini I hope, becous I just bought bike with zeb select plus 😁
@@likeris2 How's it treating you?
Obviously it’s very subjective, but I hate the look of the kashima stanchions, they have been doing the gold stanchions since the 90’s and it just looks dated, they also look like like the cheap Chinese tat off eBay 😂
Changing the seals on the zeb invalidates the whole experiment. Don't waste your time watching the review
It’s not an experiment. It’s a real world scenario of how we have our bikes set up. If SKF seals help performance, we’re gonna use them and tell people about it. Zeb also comes stock with SKF seals. We didn’t know this initially. Fork just needed some fresh seals.
Zen comes stock with SKF seals.
Basically one dude likes the ZEP, and one dude likes the Fox. Why did I waste my life on this stupid vid?
Must not have watched very closely… never heard of a ZEP…. 😉
