As someone who hasn't listened to a whole lot of rap albums, I thought Donda was pretty stellar. So many standout tracks that I thought were really good (Hurricane, Jail, Jonah, Believe What I Say, and a few others). The entire thing was generally cohesive as well.
@@internetaddict1466 TBH, I think that the concept of the nostalgia cycle is slowly starting to become outdated, at least in music. It feels weird that we’re already skipping to nostalgia for the early 2010s (I saw someone argue that our current nostalgia stops abruptly around 2015-2016, I wonder why…) There will always be trends that come and go due to saturation, but with the rise of the monogenre and streaming services, the general public can now become accustomed to music from all eras and walks of life, not just the music deemed profitable by corporate suits. With the general public’s taste in music slowly diversifying, I feel like future trends will be harder to directly pinpoint. I think this is an interesting thing to think about.

Since I'm currently studying after I swtiched my course, I decide to improve my skills at writing in my own paragraph not only about my studying, but the reviewing music every Billboard too. And by the following months that I got obsessed in Billboard and music, my music life wouldn't complete without Sean, Todd, Mark, and a lot of reviewers that I didn't mentioed. Despite that I'm a multifan of the pop artists that I like, I just still analyze it or enjoy my music as well. Yeah, I'm a die-hard fan of pop artists (Little Mix, Harry, Dua, Shawn, JB, Ariana, Taylor, BTS, etc) but still strict when it comes to Billboard. I was suffered from autism and I hate music before, even on radio or vidoeke as well. Since I'm now an adult and I'm really grateful to find more interesting stuff that I want to explore. Its my one year when I joined the Billboard squad. 😌

I've been following the charts since I was a wee lad and it's fascinating the chart evolve to accommodate new distribution trends like digital downloads and streaming or change their formula to disqualify inflation gimmicks like bundles. I wasn't interested in the song at first since Baby Keem was the lead artist and I had low expectations for it given that his other songs weren't interesting for the most part. But surprisingly when I gave it a first listen this was actually pretty good and both him and Kendrick Lamar had strong verses. Now we can only hope that Kendrick can release his new album sooner rather than later.
Anyways, this is a bit off topic, but I want to say something. Luminique Hale, a pretty popular person in this community wrote a whole farewell letter to “Blinding Lights”. I want you guys to check it out because it is extremely well written. She captured how most of the people in this community feels about “Blinding Lights” very well and she gave a very good overview on the song and its chart run. In terms of what’s going on in music or what’s going on in this community, Luminique Hale is always one of the very notable people to update all of us. She makes playful memes about certain people if its necessary and she is not afraid to open up about her struggles. She writes with a lot of emotion and determination, and that’s something I hope we all can recognize.

"Way 2 Sexy" will probably get it as long as it remains in the Top 20 for the next month and a half, and "Hurricane" will probably be borderline if it actually manages to remain stable (which looking at it's streaming it..... actually is surprisingly)
Beautiful Mistakes is mediocre, nothing to write home about that song. Hopefully that's the last we see of Maroon Poop, their single Lost is underperforming - good. Also considering what was revealed about sexual assault cases from one of their former members, good riddance.
As a Kanye stan who’s been slowly losing patience with him since 2018, Donda is a true mess, but one that I think was necessary as a climax to the turbulence of his last few years (or at least hope it’s a climax). The album’s length can probably be blamed on stream trolling, but the album could have been at least as good as TLOP if it were cut to 12 tracks. Certified Lover Boy, however, might be the first real sign of the dawn of the Drake era. This could have been released three years ago, and it wouldn’t have sounded weird st all in Drake’s discography. Drake would at least borrow (or straight up steal) the newer sounds in hip-hop at the time and appropriate them for mainstream audiences. CLB feels like an appropriation of Drake’s own discography from Views onward. Regardless of how bad Kanye music will become, he will always attract at the very least morbid curiosity. Drake feels more like a reflection of the ideal male model in the 2010s, that has given up on the machismo of the past, but not on his toxic and predatory behaviours. Anyways, stream Little Simz.

I keep trying to like Famous Friends and while it has an okay hook, that song does nothing for me. Somehow I keeping forgetting that song exist particularly when the buzz for Chris Young's album was muted. Frankly One Mississippi is more catchier and Single Saturday Night done right in terms of production and construction.

Weird you didn't mention Heat Waves making significant gains this week due to it going viral on tiktok. Being able to move up several spots into the top 25 must be some kind of impressive. Also why the hate for Heaven and Hell? The lyrics may be Ye at its weakest but that drop just goes hard that it makes the song really good. @@JoshInTheBox I'm not a hater since my kids are potential Army recruits so I have indirectly listened to a good amount of their discography so I've had enough listening sampling to go by. PTD is so derivative and has watered down the elements that made BTS so successful and so unique in the international music space (can't say if they are that unique within K-pop) that it irks me to see than decades from now when someone looks at their milestones, PTD will appear, without context, as a #1 hit. And sadly, future generations only casually know older artists for their hits.
How many Drake songs are projected in the Top 10? It might just end up knocking out levitating, kiss me more or butter out since they've all lost radio momentum, except for the latter which rebounded with the remix but that streaming will evaporate and who knows what the Army budget is next week.

Mark talked about how Kanye is probably going to be in trouble next week because all he has is streaming and doesn't have an obvious single at the ready. I don't think Drake's going to have that problem as he's pretty clearly pushing Way 2 Sexy as the single (and with the video and obvious sample is targeting TikTok imo this might have vitality legs) and he has a disturbing habit of his songs sticking around past the album bomb when other album bombs are gone the next week
Mass commerical appeal vs. "Experimental" Gospel, I'm not surprise. Young Money has a habit where Mass appeal and commerical success equals I won the beef rather if the music holds up. Hell I can see where people will defend Ye taking more chances than being Scorpion part 2 with none of the highs of that last project.

Another thing Kanye and Drake have in common: Not accrediting features on albums properly. Drake did it in 2017 with that "More Life" album/playlist/background noise or whatever the hell that was and now Kanye's doing it on "Donda" in 2021. Honestly the feud is pretty dumb given how much they have in common, they should just shake pinkies and move on... Next week: Drake...I don't think we'll get anything from Abba on the Hot 100. Kind of glad Abba will chart in Australia as it will break up the Drakenotony on the Aussie charts. Am the only one who thinks the charts have taken a turn for the worse this year? Right now I feel like the year end is going to be piled with a lot of garbage.
Furthermore Drake's anger regarding his son, trust is both hypocritical and misplaced. Especially given his tendency for being a deadbeat. Really feels like he's being petty to Kanye cause he's an easy target, cause someone with bars actually smoked him.

The week that Butter returns to #1, 1 of the 2 biggest albums of the year’s album bomb, Blinding Lights finally dropping out (RIP), Fancy Like is in the top 10, and Kendrick returns. Also look at this week’s date, this is so much to take in and next week will be even more insane.
I want to create a poll cause I want to know where the attention lies: Without You or Stay (Both by The Kid LAROI) Both are bad songs, but in a very unique way. Granted they are songs done before and often better by other acts, which is my biggest problem with the Kid, he's not that unique. But I don't know, I don't mind the guitar pick up on Without You, shame LAROI had to be the absolute worst trying to be a cross between Post Malone and Juice WRLD in delivery and content. Then we have Stay, which I'll be blunt on a relisten, I'm not sure the synth works on that track (it's too inert and minor key for my taste) cause apparently Puth freestyled this progression and man you can tell. Then they try to build around it, and while I don't mind the drums and maybe the guitars, LAROI is still at the front trying his best Malone impression and they emphasize his Ooohhhs and it can get grating in a hurry. Seriously that song, I can acknowledge everyone muscling it into being a hit from Fedi's drums and guitars to Cashmere Cat's EDM Drop, but the mixing and mastering and even the rest of the production is so sloppy that nothing gets any power. The percussion has more power particularly on the hook, even if they try to add more layers of syths here which isn't bad, the breakdown is terrible, and there is more falsettos from these guys that is worth it, particularly on Bieber's verse where he seems bored to even be there cause he's a limited presence behind the microphone who can't push any sort of momentum, at least Without You was more "complete" and coherent
Forget the BTS number one and the Kanye bomb, the weirdest thing for me this week was seeing Heat Waves by Glass Animals move up from 33 to 23. I completely support, I still love that song.

There will always be trends that come and go due to saturation, but with the rise of the monogenre and streaming services, the general public can now become accustomed to music from all eras and walks of life, not just the music deemed profitable by corporate suits. With the general public’s taste in music slowly diversifying, I feel like future trends will be harder to directly pinpoint. I think this is an interesting thing to think about.

The fanfiction was titled Heat Waves and the song was explicitly connected with the fic. This fanfiction then went viral in minecraft fandom. This soft-erotic fanfiction going viral in minecraft fandom is often cited as the reason why it then became the sleeper hit of the year.

Around the following months when the pandemic is spreading massively, a lot of the people in the country are depressed, the world is turned a nightmare. Until a song named "Blinding Lights" peaked to the Top spot in the whole countries. The storytelling of the After Hours is still continuing to destroys a lot of records, even the music critics are amazed with this song and the album because he deserves it. Until a lot of people get depressed when...
This dark and brutal masterpiece didn't get any of the major and minor nominations at the time of the Grammys last November. The majority of the whole people around the world (including myself) are cried and devastated since he really deserved to get achievements so far. Despite this, the song is still the "winner" in our hearts.
Well, this is unfortunate. You are survived by the past two years. You made it. You are the longest-charting song in this chart. The fans stills love you, the crticics praises you, the listeners likes you. I am so grateful that he broke the record of lonegevity. But I am still sad that this song is leaving. He ends the After Hours era and The Dawn is rising.

Since I'm currently studying after I swtiched my course, I decide to improve my skills at writing in my own paragraph not only about my studying, but the reviewing music every Billboard too. And by the following months that I got obsessed in Billboard and music, my music life wouldn't complete without Sean, Todd, Mark, and a lot of reviewers that I didn't mentioed.
Despite that I'm a multifan of the pop artists that I like, I just still analyze it or enjoy my music as well. Yeah, I'm a die-hard fan of pop artists (Little Mix, Harry, Dua, Shawn, JB, Ariana, Taylor, BTS, etc) but still strict when it comes to Billboard.
I was suffered from autism and I hate music before, even on radio or vidoeke as well. Since I'm now an adult and I'm really grateful to find more interesting stuff that I want to explore. Its my one year when I joined the Billboard squad. 😌
It's wonderful to have you on board. I've been following the charts since I was a wee lad and it's fascinating the chart evolve to accommodate new distribution trends like digital downloads and streaming or change their formula to disqualify inflation gimmicks like bundles. I wasn't interested in the song at first since Baby Keem was the lead artist and I had low expectations for it given that his other songs weren't interesting for the most part. But surprisingly when I gave it a first listen this was actually pretty good and both him and Kendrick Lamar had strong verses. Now we can only hope that Kendrick can release his new album sooner rather than later.

Anyways, this is a bit off topic, but I want to say something. Luminique Hale, a pretty popular person in this community wrote a whole farewell letter to “Blinding Lights”. I want you guys to check it out because it is extremely well written. She captured how most of the people in this community feels about “Blinding Lights” very well and she gave a very good overview on the song and its chart run. In terms of what’s going on in music or what’s going on in this community, Luminique Hale is always one of the very notable people to update all of us. She makes playful memes about certain people if its necessary and she is not afraid to open up about her struggles. She writes with a lot of emotion and determination, and that’s something I hope we all can recognize.

“Way 2 Sexy” is being pushed hard as a new single, and “Girls Want Girls” is pretty viral for that lyric.
Beautiful Mistakes is mediocre, nothing to write home about that song. Hopefully that's the last we see of Maroon Poop, their single Lost is underperforming - good.
Also considering what was revealed about sexual assault cases from one of their former members, good riddance.
As a Kanye stan who’s been slowly losing patience with him since 2018, Donda is a true mess, but one that I think was necessary as a climax to the turbulence of his last few years (or at least hope it’s a climax). The album’s length can probably be blamed on stream trolling, but the album could have been at least as good as TLOP if it were cut to 12 tracks.
Certified Lover Boy, however, might be the first real sign of the dawn of the Drake era. This could have been released three years ago, and it wouldn’t have sounded weird st all in Drake’s discography. Drake would at least borrow (or straight up steal) the newer sounds in hip-hop at the time and appropriate them for mainstream audiences. CLB feels like an appropriation of Drake’s own discography from Views onward. Regardless of how bad Kanye music will become, he will always attract at the very least morbid curiosity. Drake feels more like a reflection of the ideal male model in the 2010s, that has given up on the machismo of the past, but not on his toxic and predatory behaviours.

EDIT: I'm a multifan and I love BTS but the reason that I put "PTD" in the worst list is because some Billboard addicts found its derivative and waterish version of "Butter". Hopefully will understand.
I'm just glad PTD failed to buy it's way into the YE. That song is the worst BTS song I've ever heard... For now.

@@JoshInTheBox I'm not a hater since my kids are potential Army recruits so I have indirectly listened to a good amount of their discography so I've had enough listening sampling to go by. PTD is so derivative and has watered down the elements that made BTS so successful and so unique in the international music space (can't say if they are that unique within K-pop) that it irks me to see than decades from now when someone looks at their milestones, PTD will appear, without context, as a #1 hit. And sadly, future generations only casually know older artists for their hits.

How many Drake songs are projected in the Top 10? It might just end up knocking out levitating, kiss me more or butter out since they've all lost radio momentum, except for the latter which rebounded with the remix but that streaming will evaporate and who knows what the Army budget is next week.

Mark talked about how Kanye is probably going to be in trouble next week because all he has is streaming and doesn't have an obvious single at the ready. I don't think Drake's going to have that problem as he's pretty clearly pushing Way 2 Sexy as the single (and with the video and obvious sample is targeting TikTok imo this might have vitality legs) and he has a disturbing habit of his songs sticking around past the album bomb when other album bombs are gone the next week

Young Money has a habit where Mass appeal and commerical success equals I won the beef rather if the music holds up. Hell I can see where people will defend Ye taking more chances than being Scorpion part 2 with none of the highs of that last project.

Another thing Kanye and Drake have in common: Not accrediting features on albums properly. Drake did it in 2017 with that "More Life" album/playlist/background noise or whatever the hell that was and now Kanye's doing it on "Donda" in 2021. Honestly the feud is pretty dumb given how much they have in common, they should just shake pinkies and move on...

The week that Butter returns to #1, 1 of the 2 biggest albums of the year’s album bomb, Blinding Lights finally dropping out (RIP), Fancy Like is in the top 10, and Kendrick returns. Also look at this week’s date, this is so much to take in and next week will be even more insane.
I want to create a poll cause I want to know where the attention lies:
Without You or Stay (Both by The Kid LAROI)
Both are bad songs, but in a very unique way. Granted they are songs done before and often better by other acts, which is my biggest problem with the Kid, he's not that unique. But I don't know, I don't mind the guitar pick up on Without You, shame LAROI had to be the absolute worst trying to be a cross between Post Malone and Juice WRLD in delivery and content. Then we have Stay, which I'll be blunt on a relisten, I'm not sure the synth works on that track (it's too inert and minor key for my taste) cause apparently Puth freestyled this progression and man you can tell. Then they try to build around it, and while I don't mind the drums and maybe the guitars, LAROI is still at the front trying his best Malone impression and they emphasize his Ooohhhs and it can get grating in a hurry. Seriously that song, I can acknowledge everyone muscling it into being a hit from Fedi's drums and guitars to Cashmere Cat's EDM Drop, but the mixing and mastering and even the rest of the production is so sloppy that nothing gets any power. The percussion has more power particularly on the hook, even if they try to add more layers of syths here which isn't bad, the breakdown is terrible, and there is more falsettos from these guys that is worth it, particularly on Bieber's verse where he seems bored to even be there cause he's a limited presence behind the microphone who can't push any sort of momentum, at least Without You was more "complete" and coherent
I like both, but Stay is way better.
As long as Fancy Like doesn't hit Number 1 I think it will all be fine.

Forget the BTS number one and the Kanye bomb, the weirdest thing for me this week was seeing Heat Waves by Glass Animals move up from 33 to 23. I completely support, I still love that song.
