I'm glad I came across this video, I was learning guitar for some years before I gave it up. I have recently started getting back into it again and progress is slow, I feel like I know nothing. This video of you showing your progress throughout the year is great motivation for anyone who wants to learn guitar and that practice truly does make perfect, great job keep it up!
I found this video a week ago and it gives me so much inspiration to practice everyday. I would love to be where you are a year from now. It’s only been 10 days of practicing everyday and I’m going to keep coming back to your video to motivate me. 💜
@@tiffanyc4683 that’s awesome! thank you for this comment! You absolutely will be. It’s tough at first (which is why I put in the little hourly blog posts) but it gets progressively more fun and you learn so much faster the more consistent you are! Let’s make this year an amazing year for progress!
As someone who plays guitar for about a year, this video really motivates me. For you it was the injury who made you start and for me it was being laid off from work, suddenly having alot of time to spend. I'm glad we could make the best out of it. Also playing 90% of the songs you learned here is really cool haha. I wish you the best with your journey and hope you post more in the future!
Great work, brother! How this doesn't have a billion views is beyond me! Just goes to show what you can do once you put your mind to it and decide to put in the hard work necessary to get good. Very inspiring! Keep on rocking!
Thanks for sharing this. I'm nearing the end of my BJJ journey after almost 20 years on the mat as injuries are catching up with me. I haven't played guitar regularly since my garage band days in the 1980s, but I am making 2025 the year of my return! Your video is inspiring!
@@davidpenn1123 it’s the harsh reality of the sport, 20 years is commendable! Hopefully you can still get in every now and then if you can. That’s awesome! Glad I can lend some inspiration 🙌
Awesome! It's really nice to see what progress one can make with consistency and hard work. I can't wait to see where I'll be after a year of practice!
I did start when I was 25yo but quitted, sold my gear and blocked the idea of playing altogether. Now, pushing 39 I just got a new guitar, cable for rocksmith and I'm into a online course too. This was quite inspiring, man. Keep it up, rock on from Brazil! 🎸 🤘
You are amazing man! I am playing guitar since I was 13 years old, that's almost 24 years ago. I have never practiced so seriously and even though I developed my own style of playing through the years, I can honestly say your hard work and determination have granted you skills that many guitar players don't acquire in a decade. I can only imagine how crazy you will play in another year or two. Keep rockin!
What that’s incredible to stick with it so long! Must be great to have your own style I can’t wait until I’m there. Also, thank you much, that sounds crazy to hear! I can’t wait also, I’m going to keep pushing! I have so many songs I want to learn
Thank’s so much for sharing, my friend 😊 The Lord’s love + grace be with you His Hope + peace, in Life, and beyond the grave Hope you are all well and resting in Jesus saving love + grace 😊 Warmest Love + blessing’s friends 😊
This video is kind of giving me the idea that recording your progress and having an audience (no matter how small) to keep you accountable is a new method for motivation that I haven't really thought about up until this point.
self learning needs a lot of disciple and interest in the instrument, i taught my self play the guitar since teens. knowing how to play a song and understanding the music theory s totally different things but in this years of utube i think it is possible just need to find the correct path. keep up the interest cheers
I’m about 8 months in and your honesty so much better than me. Probably because I don’t sit down with a metronome a lot and just practice scales for a few hours. The #1 thing I struggle with is muting so if you have any tips on that that’d be appreciated. You’re amazing at this and I imagine year 2 will have you playing master of puppets all the way through
@andrews8458 there are so many great videos on muting out there, for myself I always make sure that my index finger is lightly touching the string above and it’s lightly laying across the strings below to make sure they’re muted. Then the palm of my picking hand lays across all the other strings to make sure those are muted too. Helps so much with raking and bending!! I could make a video on this if you’re interested in exactly what I’m saying! Man master of puppets would be insane in 2 years that’s a stretch!! Haha I’m still working really hard as of now trying to improve more whatever happens happens 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome progress man! I love the added practice hours really puts into perspective how much work it takes to get where you are now. I'm curious how you set up the fender mustang micro/what you plugged into because the tone is really nice.
Thank you! Headphone jack plugged into a jbl boombox haha actually doesn’t sound too bad. And then later in the video is a tone master pro plugged into a jbl boombox. I plan on getting an fr12 soon I need a serious amp upgrade lol
@@Tdaddy4T absolutely you can! Be sure to play every day if possible and form the habit! It is hard at the start but it gets progressively more fun the longer you stick with it. At the start I wanted to quit but now i can’t imagine ever quitting
Great progress man, very impressive and motivating seeing this video. 👍 I also started a bit over a year ago (acoustic only), but I'm progressing way slower than you, but I# also not putting in nearly as much time as you did. What did a typical practise routine/day look like for you at the beginning?
@@markusknapp4466 thanks I appreciate it! At the start I mostly did chord transitions trying for as many clean changes in 1 minute as possible and then kept trying to 1 up my previous best. Also mostly did spider exercises and scale runs to build fingers up. Currently I’m just doing the usual 1234 spider warmup, some speed burst exercises (ozzguitar program) all to a metronome to keep good timing and then purely song work. I find I learn the fastest just by learning songs. Each one has its on unique challenges that force growth
Man how did you get comfy with the picking hand position😂 i really struggle with that, i feel like i can do so much better once i have a better position
@@rippedbeast2217 once I started to anchor my pinkie and have my palm resting on the bridge slightly I really started to lock in. You need to have your palm there anyways to go between muting the low strings for unwanted string noise and palm muting! Don’t get me wrong I still struggle, especially with arpeggios. That’s been a recent focus of mine to level up even more
@@Frandsen244 I think overall the Les Paul! It sounds so much better with better sustain. Stratocaster however is a bit easier to play fast on because of the thin neck and jumbo frets

I have a cheap $200 epiphone sg I absolutely love and is honestly just as comfortable to play as my Gibson. The spider exercise absolutely works, I would stick with it for while and it will get boring going 1234 so switch up the finger patterns every other week!
