The Luo are also referred to as the River-lake nilotes. They originated from Bahr el-Ghazel in southern Sudan.
They are known as River -Lake Nilotes because they settled along Rivers and lakes. Their migration took place between 1350 -1500 A.D. They entered East Africa through the Northern part of Uganda following the Albert Nile. They included tribes like Alur, Langi, Acholi, Japadhola and Ja-luo of Western Kenya.

We really need to add to this fine lecture a color-coded map with different groups denoted by color, so we can clearly see which countries share related groups.
Those are one of ancient Egyptians and Pharaohs

@Tower Academic I am a Ugandan (Madi) born in London. Thank you very much for your presentation.
Have you any information about the origins of the other Nilotic tribes that are in Northern Uganda? Namely the Lugbarra, Kakwa and Madi. Apart from Uganda these tribes are also in the DR Congo and South Sudan.
There is a theory that the origins may be in West Africa due to common names.
Am lugbara

Is there any relation between Masisi in Eastern DRC to Tswana and Luo?
@@billtev9846 unfortunately I cannot confirm nor deny as I know nothing of the Masisi.. what lead to your question if I may ask?
Tswana people are bantus.
@@billtev9846 The Luo peoples (Alur) are in Eastern Congo.
Check your facts carefully before penning a post, in the North Eastern reaches of DRC, there are Nilotic people, specifically part of the Alur who extend into the neighbouring Uganda....!!!I suggest you visit Bunia in North Eastern DRC to confirm this!!!
Greetings to you all❤❤❤❤
Nilotic people migrated to Eastern Africa from area of modern day South Sudan twice. First migration happened long before Ramogi brought luos into East Africa and these nilotic pastoralists were sharing lands around great lakes with hunter-gatherers like Hadza bushmen, including some cushitic pastoralists. Then bantus came with iron metallurgy, agriculture and overall more advanced culture. They assimilated those people, established kingdoms and city states.
The Luo people were once living together with the Igbos of Nigeria before the moved to different firections
Keep it up it's really fine
Am luo from KENYA 🇰🇪 but I really like our history and history of Ethiopian (black people)as a whole
You have left out the Jupadhola in eastern Uganda and Alur in west nile northern Uganda
Do more history about these people,it long history connected with the Ausa people in western and central Africa,I have had your beautiful program but alot is missing and misleading go to ,pakwach, lira,Gulu, kitgum matidi and kitgum, then Adilang mountain, and kaongo, muchwini lachekochot, namukora
And get good history in those areas I mentioned in northern Uganda that's west Nile and Aswa river near pajure,or acholi bur
You missed the Langi in Northern Uganda, the Kumam and Japathola of eastern Uganda.
@Patrick Elidu Langi migration is different form Luo migration that is why. Langi belong to the Ateker people not Luo.
Originally the Kumam and Lango were from Ateker the Nilo-Hamitic people, but they assimilated into Luo culture
Where are the Alur, Langi etc
Luos also settled in eastern Uganda
Do they refer to themselves as Luo like those in Kenya and Tanzania?

Welcome
There must have been a major event that inspired this mass migrations within Africa around between 15th century to 17th century. The Bantu people were also on the move.
My guess is the event was Arabization of Africa through slavery and later the European slavery.
If this is so, the origin can not be bahar el ghazel. It must be further north. The fact that there are luo groups in South Sudan to date suggest that the they chose to settle there as parts of the greater migration were looking for places to settle.
The niolotic and Bantu came from Israel and ancient Egypt before them invaders came . Them Arabs and Roman’s forces us all the move
It was during the Rome invasion of Egypt/misiir, The Cornelius king of Rome empire invade Aegygiem in BC, This was after the Ayksus they Greek and than ottomans empire and the last was the Arabs.
If you people can say the meaning of Cairo/ which was supposed to be written kairo…..to Jieng or Dinka language, Kairo mean anything that gave birth with the first born in the bush, either a cow or human etc.
I think there is no a lot reaschech about Lou migration how they are scattered around the East Africa and some to West Africa and what was the cause of migration?
Lou. In Kenya and Ethiopia are close in terms of terminologies. Dha anyuak
indeed, Thank you
There is no substantive evidence that proves they migrated to West Africa.
Who are those in west Africa, pls name a few?

@@vitalisopel1291there might be some Luos in northern Cameroon and southern chad. They are called “Kirdi” and “Sara” and they are Nilotics who originally came from Egypt just like Luos , so there might be connection who knows
