I’m loving the subtle edits in this episode. I very much look forward to your Sunday uploads. You have taught me a lot over these last few years. Rewatching the older episodes is such a joy because I seem to pick up something new I missed the first time. Thank you, Ian. ✌️
Awww haha thank you for the nice comment! Sometimes I look back at some of my older stuff and cringe because of how bad the audio quality is, or how bad my jokes were lol
i was just wondering about frame rates and whether frame rates will affect audio sync to my surprise, you just released the at the very time! you r a life saver : )
So glad I subscribed to your channel recently! I’ve been editing stuff in Premiere for years as a hobby but I’m starting to realize I’ve developed a lot of bad habits. Short videos like this give me the chance to fix some of those once a day without taking up an hour or two. Thanks man! 👍
One more thing to add, just because you *can* drop a 30, 60, 120, 240 and above fps clip on a 24p timeline doesn't mean that you should always be shooting in 60 or 120, etc. fps because fps effects shutter speed; to put it into perspective, your shutter speed should always be double your fps (at least most of the times when you have sufficient lighting), so a 60 fps clip should have about 1/120th of shutter speed and a 120 fps clip should have 1/240th of shutter speed and so on and if you were to drop the 120 fps clip into a 24p (fps) timeline, your shutter speed wouldn't match up and as a result, your footage wouldn't look as pleasing as the motion blur in the footage would be matched up to that of the 120 fps clip. Final point, plan before you shoot.
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just film everything in 60fps. If you can add a 60fps clip into a 23.976 timeline and it’ll just drop the extra frames and will play normally then what’s the issue? 60 FPS all the time just seems to me to have no issues and only the advantage of being able to slow it down. Is my thinking wrong, here?
Im so excited to watch this channel a ton. I just started my academy for media arts and got a free Adobe Membership. I just downloaded AE off of the Adobe Creative Cloud :)
the filmmaker / youtuber Seems like a nice guy and has some general but I’m sure is very helpful But this video does give some bad advice. If you’re going to mix 24, 30, and 60 for tv broadcast You should be 59.94i or 60fps. when he dropped 24 into the 60 timeline. the 1/60th second (frames) freeze frames are correct and expected. this is how 24p gets displayed on your monitor or tv as well when u play 24p video. it is called 3:2 pull down. in general his advice to go with what you have most of your footage in is not bad advice in general but if this were for broadcast or any important final product you would want to make sure you preserve your frame rates and the only way to mix all of the above frame rates is 50 994 I or 60. also 29.97 vs 30 has nothing to do w drop vs non-drop frame. real 24p is a different speed than 23.98. Just make sure you edit the same timeline is what you shoot in. many cameras abbreviate/label 23,98 as 24. Almost all cameras that say 24 And don’t have a separate choice for 23.98 are actually shooting 23.98. Given that you should edit them in a 23.98 timeline. 24 frames per second should only be used when you going back to projected film or final distribution that involves movie theaters or full length feature presentation. For you to either 24 or 23.98 work. Just make sure you edit in the same thing and find out what your camera really shoots.
Quick question! So I shoot a lot of basketball content in 120FPS so if I’m gonna be slowing a majority of my footage down to make a buttery slo mo style edit should my timebase also be 120fps? Or can I drop it to like 30fps? I’ve noticed when I’m editing my 120fps footage and drop the time base to like 25 or 30 fps the footage becomes choppy.
So I live in Europe and shoot most of my real estate in 50fps, does it even matter what timeline fps I have (23,976 24 and 25)? I like to shoot 50fps so I can slow it down, but does it matter ?
I have a project I started with an old cam and old MacBook. It’s shot on a canon hv20 in 29.97, 1080 interlaced. Some new footage I shot is 24p. I’m working in a 24fps time line. I’m editing on old Final Cut Studio 5. What should I do? Lol
Hey Ian, im Braddy, iv had this problem for sometime now. Anytime I mask out something or rotoscope an object in after effect, the mask follows the path perfectly but after rendering and saving, the mask or roto bounces around and it look like trash, im not sure what the problem is.. It looks good when i preview in Ae but trash after exporting. Any help? 🙏
Hey maybe someone could help me. When I create ProRes Proxies a lot of the time at one point in the video, frames just get "stuck". The only solution I found is to render the "stucked" part . Why does this happen and how can I prevent this? I am recording via OBS and I set it to a fixed fps of 60. The normal non proxies never get stuck like that but they are so hard to work on its literally impossible to not create proxies.
I got a clip thats 29.95, I’ve changed my settings to 29.97 and also tried 23.976 but its just so laggy and a green glitchy appears on every other frame. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
At the end it's recommended to use 60fps for Gaming Videos and 23 fps for everything else. If I'm using 30fps PS4 Gaming Footage, should I go with 30 or 23 fps?

Can you teach us how to edit like daniel schifhiers new video. He uses it at final cut pro. Was wondering if you can teach us how he does it but through premiere. That would be sooo epic
People who are not OCD have a hard time hearing the extra detail of 23.976 and 59.940. Too many numbers too many times! Maybe use just 24, 30, and 60 as it's easier to understand after you've given us the real numbers just once, please. Other than that, what great content. Thanks so much as it was awesome. :)
You are my only last hope. I've seen you done some camera 3D tutorial already, but I wanted to do a certain effect that every time I try to do it, it doesn't look similar to the one I was trying to replicate. I was trying to do this effect ua-cam.com/video/ByaOT2wPLV4/v-deo.html (Starting at 0:18) It was the movement of the camera moving backwards. From the video source, it was moving consistently fast. For me, when I tried it, it was fast at first, then in a couple of seconds, it doesn't seem like the same speed from the first few seconds anymore. I messed with the graph editor as well, but it didn't work out for me. I was hoping that you could replicated this Camera 3D tutorial that moves backwards consistently
Hey Buddy! I love your work! Can you make another tutorial on how to edit videos like JOSHVFX from tiktok? One of his videos is going viral at the moment, probably your video can help many people right now!
Literally I had problem regarding the frame rates and wasnt clear bout it. Thank you so much for explaining it nicely.
