    I bought the first street twin when it came out, wanted a fun easy calm bike. Did a few tweaks changed the front springs to progressive springs also changed to Sintered HH Front Brake Pads and a x-pipe exhaust conversion. It was the single front disc brake that I felt bad about the most, however the sintered pads made a good improvement. I would have liked to upgrade to the Speed Twin unfortunately I didn't have the dosh after a drop in wages :-)

      Nah triumph actually have standards when building and detailing bikes. Royal Enfield do the bare minimum. The welds are of a very low standard, good penetration wise, but visually very poor. Any visible welds need to be pleasing to the eye. That's the only quality control metric preventing them from being truly competitive with Triumph.

    My ST has done nigh on £20k miles now in 4 yrs without a single issue. I am also 6ft 2 and feel fine on it - but I have the alternate bench seat which adds a few mm and I suffer with a fairly short 32 in inside leg which I guess "helps". I did go back to the stock seat and it did feel a bit odd after the bench seat so that might be an option to add a few mm/change riding position. I used to ride in the early 2000s when I passed my test but stopped in about 2009 when I came back to it in 2017 I checked out a few and the ST just ticked all the boxes and was easy to ride. All in all its been a great bike, I keep it outside under a cover and barely any rust after 4 yrs, the headlight bezel has rust which is annoying but easily replaced. There are now other realistic options out there like the Royal Enfield Interceptor so it is worth riding a few. As for me I will keep the ST but am thinking of adding a Trident for a bit of extra zip and fun OR a new TIger Sport 660 for more comfy touring with a bit more zip :D

      Tec in the uk do a great set of alloy foot pegs plus a neat dropper bracket. This drops the pegs by 25-30mm these coupled to Triumphs King and queen seat (15mm additional height) makes my T100 a very comfortable mile muncher. If you don’t like the look of the seat cover it with a Cool Cover £75 or cheap Chinese copy for about £15 on eBay.

The guzzi was not only cheaper but has a lot more quirks and history behind it in my opinion.. Agreed on all accounts. My ST will remain in the stable for the rest of time providing nothing happens to it. Only gripes I have are the front Brembo squeaks which is slightly annoying and the lack of 6th gear for motorway speeds. But as a bike for commuting and bombing around the lanes... perfection. Brakes & tyres are absolute sh!te, e-throttle/ride by wire response spoils the commuting ability, and the low seat height is a major disadvantage when filtering in heavy traffic. I was sad when I had to give it back, but for new riders, it's a bloody good first trumpet.

    The Americans legislated that all bikes sold in the USA had to have left foot gear change, was this forced by Harley Davidson ? Did this change bother anyone in the UK?,. Driving on the right suits left gears and driving on the left would seem to favour right hand change, I base this on road camber, siting at the traffic lights and dropping a foot down hill would seem to favour having the change on the opposite side to balance the bike and make for smoother operation.

    The only thing going for it is it's new and liquid cooled. The aircooled Bonnevilles are just as good. If you go for a Bonneville the only ones are the Speed Twin, and any 1200.

    The seat height is the biggest downside of it by far.
    And then there is the 18“ front (and the tires but they can be changed)
    Its a shame, im 6.2 and the only Triumph modern classics i dont like are the scramblers…..

    Now the new ST is on my possible new bike list (currently on a 16 iron 883) which is falling apart lol
    So question is the ST a good all year bike for uk averaging 8k miles a year build quality paint finish etc
    As my sensible side of brain voice is saying the new triumph tiger 660 is the bike i should have etc but its not a classic looking bike etc🤣

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 роки тому +1

      The build quality is good, but like any bike if you’re riding year round then it’ll look much better if you apply a lot of ACF, or get a pro motorcycle valet service to coat it in something. If I were you I’d ride both - the street twin has more soul than the tiger sport, but the windscreen will be a massive advantage when it’s cold and wet 👍

      @@motobob thanks yes i use acf but denim HD paint is s##t lol
      Thats my issue can only have one bike my sensible bit of brain is saying tiger for tge above reasons better weather protection tyres are great but they dont make them in size for cruiser style wheels
      But the ither side of my brain is saying tiger to boring the ST lol
      Once i have funds for new bike i shall test ride both only other thing is im a short arse 5'7 and tiger seat height etc
      Cheers

      @@jedispunk7280 at 5’7” I would look for a good example of a used gen 2 street twin. It gets all of the upgraded brakes and extra power etc, but still with the 750mm low seat of the 1st gen

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 роки тому +2

      Oh wait... that's wrong. It's the first gen that was 750. Then the second gen 760. Then 765 for this year. BUT you could get a first gen seat on eBay? There'll be loads of them. Less padding but 15mm lower

    I really want to get a new one to replace my 02 Anniversary Edition, but I want a 360 crank, so it sounds like a Triumph. I tried out the second gen Street Twin and told the dealership it was the nicest Ducati Monster I'd ridden. The Gold Line is a pretty unit though.

    Hello from Texas! Thanks for the great review. Do you, (or anyone) have any suggestions for handguards for the Street Scrambler. Strangely, I simply cannot find any kit that does not require an odd assortment of parts, hacking, grinding, etc. for them to fit. Any thoughts would be helpful. Cheers.

    The only thing to hate, I'ts that I live in latinoamerica and the streets are horrible.
    I find it ver low for here and I'm sick of repairing the aluminium wheels because of all the holes and sh*tty streets in here.

    I have a 2020 T120 Diamond Edition and the second I started it up I knew I had to change the exhaust. Since it is a LE also, I wanted to keep the look and to my pleasant surprise I found some Vance and Hines peashooters! Unfortunately, once I put these on, the change was negligible, even after removing the dB killers, so I went back to the dealer, hat in hand, and asked them to install an X pipe. Now she's talking!

    I agree at some points but in my opinion the street twin is not the best sound in triumph lineup, the street scrambler sound is more aggressive and clean. Street twin is really a very low bike, the lowest in boneville lineup except for the bobber, this is good but you need to be careful sometimes, I trade my street twin for a street scrambler because the twin was too low.

      I would say no. The seat height is pretty low and the girl I'm dating is about 5'4"- 5'5" and could flat foot it in boots
      Absolutely love this bike, especially for city riding which is what I use it mostly for. Highly recommend

    Good review but still found myself thinking why pay £9k for this bike when you can pay £6.2 for an Interceptor. Performance isn't the factor in this sector. You can spend £1k customising the RE and still have money left for a couple of holidays.
