  • This short film clip gets right into the action among the Herdwick sheep at the Matterdale & St John's Sheep Show in Patterdale, Cumbria, August 2023.
When Herdwick sheep are being shown, the judge inspects each sheep closely. He or she will check the confirmation by feeling across the back, will feel the legs, and will look inside the mouth, while the sheep are lined up, each being held by a farmer. Then the sheep will be let loose to walk or run around, so the judge can watch them move. When it's time to bring the sheep back in line, the farmers coax them towards a corner and reach in.
