    I think nature always adds. Our little blue planet is fascinating, would not include it and use it as another literary device?
    Gothic genre portrays nature as sublime, indomitable and unknown.
    Most genres are more fluid in which they usually match the weather, the landscape and the flora and fauna to whatever emotion they are trying to convey.
    I like it when it is used juxtaposed, usually when characters feel disconnected to the environment, and bad things happen on a sunny day and rain is associated with happiness.

      Yes, I love it when poets can juxtapose tension (& even strife) with moments of transcendent beauty & grandeur. It's interesting how we write the 'natural' world too, as though we are, of course, somehow above/apart/special from nature. And I love how the ecological sciences bring us back to place, & our position. Thanks for the bookish connection.
