@@lucifer7056 The movie had the collaboration of a Scientific team leaders by Kip Throne (world expert in black holes). He had to figure it out (mathematically) how would a black hole looks like. So actually the movie helped scientific progress. Collaboration.

Yes, it's one of the most awesome thing, though quite unrealistic as the two docking ports have to be exactly in the center of mass of both ships otherwise it would be literally impossible. Though when they are, it's actually possible. The centrifugal forces could be minimized when he positions himself in the center of the ship so he would just spin around his own center of mass. 60rpm wouldn't be that bad. However being off-center at that rotation speed certainly isn't a good idea ^^.
Just the dialog is awesome: "It's impossible" - "No, it's necessary". A real one shot moment. Get it right or that's it.

This is real, Another exquisite fact, to create that scene and the Saturn scene they had to create their own rendering algorithm because the current engines could not support it.
During the water planet scene, there is a ticking sound every 1.4 seconds. It signifies the passing of one day on Earth.

It's so awesome that Dr Mann (first name is Hugh) explained to the group why Plan A, the ruse, was necessary. That humans would choose self-preservation over saving the species. Then we learn a short time later that Dr Mann, the "best of us," did exactly that. He put his survival before that of the species.
The fact that Hans Zimmer didn't win an Oscar for the music in 2014 is the greatest crime in the last century.

The Black Hole Physics
Nolan brought Kip Thorne early on the project (still in the writing phase) because he wanted the science to be as realistic as possible. He was very clear on that. The fact that Kip was an executive producer on the movie shows his dedication to this really well. He is a theoretical physicist working on gravitational physics. They developed a computer model that based on his equations was able to simulate how a black hole would look like. They used that model as a basis for the CGI in the movie. The fact that science proved them right later just shows what a brilliant scientist he really is. He was awarded the Nobel prize in 2017 for his work on gravitational waves.
The Music
I have always been a fan of Hans Zimmer, most of his work is just amazing. Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Da Vinci Code, Blade Runner, etc... All exceptional work but in my opinion this is his Magnum Opus. There is just something about the way he uses organs here its almost distracting. It brings up so much emotions in me I can barely focus on the movie. Seen it about 15 times and it never fails to completely overwhelm me its not even funny at this point the whole thing is just surreal. I am a huge fan of original movie soundtracks and I adore a lot of them so much I have them on my phone and listen to them on a daily basis. But this one is really special to me, in my opinion its one of the best piece of music of the modern era. And thats a really high praise I am aware of that.

Cast
Superb casting all across the board. Nolan's characters are always complex and very relatable and this movie is no different. Matthew McConaughey was no surprise to me, the man is just brilliant, he absolutely killed it in this movie. Such a charismatic guy and his calm and reassuring Texan demeanor makes him such a likable person. Huge fan of him. As for Anne Hathaway this was the movie that solidified in me what a good actress she is. Their relationship worked so well with Matthew it was a joy to watch how it evolved during the course of the movie. Jessica Chastain is always brilliant, give that woman a well written character with a good script and she will kill it 10 out of 10 times. Brilliant actress and stunningly beautiful. Not much to say about Michael Kane, the man is an absolute legend for a reason. Always great, never a mediocre performance. I think the standout here is Mackenzie Foy (young Murph). My ghawd that little girl absolutely nailed it. She was 10 years old at that time but she acted like an elderly actress with decades of experience. Not an awkward moment, not a scene where I didnt believe that she was Murph. The relationship between Murph and Cooper was beautiful and very sweet. So much chemistry, every single time I watch this movie ( about 15 times at this point ) I am looking for cracks in her performance but man that little girl was absolutely amazing. They worked so well together If anyone would show me a scene not knowing who they were I would not doubt for a second that they are indeed family. Brilliant stuff, absolutely love it.
Interstellar is the best cinema experience I ever had. Watched it 2 times in the biggest IMAX in the UK ( BFI, London ) and it gutted me both times. I am a huge sci-fi fan since I was a kid but when it comes to a single movie and not a franchise, this is it. Everything about this movie is just great and they work so well together. From the beginning it just pulls me in and I forget about everything else. Simply, amazing.

Each frame of the black hole CGI rendering where moving was so complex it took 100 hours of computer time to complete each frame.
To me this is the only movie that I've seen, that I actually can say it's perfect in every single aspect. A complete master piece.

omgosh.... Fun Fact : Did you know that when Director Christopher Nolan asks Hans Zimmer to compose the song, Nolan chose not to provide Zimmer with a script or any plot details but instead gave Hans Zimmer an envelope containing one sheet of paper that told the story of a father leaving his child for work, and what it meant to be a father.
Hans Zimmer, also a father, doesn't even know what movie or script it is going to be! They didn't discuss about movie, they only discuss about their children.
Zimmer then spent a day composing the theme and then showed it to Nolan, and Nolan loved it. Zimmer says : “Nolan sat on my couch and I played him the piece. He paused for a second and said, 'I better make the movie now.'”
So you can see that Nolan fits the movie to the music, the connection between the visual and the audio is so strong *chef kiss

For all the science in this film, one line nails what the film is all about in my eyes. "Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can't understand it."
In hindsight that line is double-edged, if they trusted love and went to Wolf's planet instead of Matt Damon's planet, the incident where Coop entering the black hole/pocket dimension would have never happened. Meaning the Murph's "ghost" would have never happened. And if Murph's ghost never happened...
@@jenniferhamels1176 That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that Coop steered them away from that plan not because it was rational but because he wanted to get back to his daughter, his love and connection to Murph was driving him. That said, IMO, Nolan's movies share a similar argument (though it is not the only one), that we should not overanalyze films and not pick apart every detail because nothing will ever be flawless. Instead, we should experience and feel them. Sure, we could pick apart that line at many points but I still think it's importance to the overarching idea and theme that we should trust love even when we don't understand it still holds. None of which is to say we should forgive glaring errors, just that given enough time, and a certain perspective people can, and have picked apart any film, and I think Nolan suggests in this narrative we should give, at least some of that a rest sometimes. Like the line from Tenet, "Don't try to understand it, feel it" he puts something to that effect in most of his films.
I think what some people miss is Professor Brand and Dr. Mann are the typical Humans and Coop is the idealistic one; the one we all want to be but few actually turn out to be …
We are selfish and we lie (even with good intentions) to get people to do what needs to be done, in our eyes. Most of us would have pushed the button to get saved, or chose not to go at all.
The hero in a story is special because most of humanity doesn’t behave that way. We’d all like to believe we would, but when the chips are down (in such a way as in these types of stories), we usually make the wrong choice.

another thing to note, matt damon’s characters full name is Hugh Mann, which correlates to ‘human’ and he is a metaphor for mankind being selfish and unjust towards life itself. as the movie progresses people begin to hate dr mann but once you realise he is a symbol of what humanity has become it is eye opening and life changing.

Dr. Mann was an example of human beings' potential of being selfish and destructive.
The other Lazarus astronauts did not put their own lives ahead of the mission. They were honorable and unselfish. They represented the best of Humanity, whereas their leader, Dr. Mann, turned out to be the worst.
Murphy's brother Tom is another example. Rather than adapt and survive, Tom's selfish pride and ego prevented him from going with Murphy and saving his family.

From the day i watched Interstellar, i downloaded the theme music.. and i listen it 3-5 times a week till now, and it never fails to fill my eyes up with tears,
this music helped me get out of every mental situation...

They worked with real physicists and NASA scientists for this movie very closely. They wanted everything to be as scientifically accurate as possible which resulted in many research papers published based on the physics represented in this movie. They had to create an entirely new algorithm to be able to render Saturn so accurately as well as the black hole. This was before they knew what one looked like, and it the physical representation was created entirely based on the data physicists had. If you look at the first picture of a balck hole and the newest NASA renders of one they are identical in every way except Nolan made a few lighting changes mainly for the planets to have the same kind of lighting as locations on Earth for easier filming with as little cgi and computer effects as possible. I've always been fascinated with space and physics of the unknown ao this movie is a true joy for me to rewatch over and over.
That's just absolutely genius work by Nolan, thanks for watching ❤
i have 2 reasons for cherishing this movie more than most, the first being was seeing the entirety at the theaters was magical.
the second is because i wasn't mentally well, so crying wasn't a thing i would do. this movie broke through my barriers consistently, and has not failed since.

I must say... after "Inside out" became the first movie to strongly trigger tears from me in my life (at age ~35!)... it took three more years to stumble upon "Interstellar", and during *that infamous scene* (23 years of messages), while trying to eat a salad, I was like "why is there liquid dripping from my eyes? I see no onions in this salad!" :P

Emotional responses can seem so random sometimes, I've observed... for example I've seen certain "classic tearjerkers" that would do nothing [at least nothing external] to me, and most often a re-watch of something that did trigger a first-time response would do nothing, but certain others have "gotten me" for 15 re-watches (that was "Nimona"), or 5-6 times during the first watch (that was the Turkish version of Miracle in Cell No. 7" (!)
I had to see it a second time in the theater, all 6 hours (3 plus 3). The second time I recognized Murph at the beginning telling about the corn and dust! Wonderful reaction! Science is just about all correct/ factual, accurate!

The black hole in "Interstellar" was based on the equations of the movie's consultant, theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne. As you said, this was before we'd been able to actually photograph a black hole, but they trusted that the math was correct. Thorne worked with the FX team to simulate the black hole using his equations and, as we saw five years later when the first real image of a black hole came out, it turned out they got it right. The only difference between the black hole in the movie and a RL black hole is in the brightness/color on part of it. IRL, the light moving away from us on the ring is dimmer than the light moving toward us (which we saw in the real photos, where one side of the black hole appeared much brighter than the other), but Christopher Nolan wanted it to look a little more striking onscreen, so they made both sides equally bright for the movie. Otherwise, it's super accurate to what we've observed IRL.
Thorne said in an interview that he was proud of how much of the science in the film is accurate or at least our best understanding of what's probably accurate based on the math and data we have and our best theories. He said the only part of the movie that makes him cringe is the "frozen clouds" bit on Dr. Mann's planet, because they don't really make scientific sense and were just added for a cool visual.
Also, I've seen some people wonder how Coop could be in the black hole but not get spaghettified or crushed down to nothingness as is theorized would happen if a real person (or anything else) fell into a real black hole. There are theories, however, that if the black hole is big enough - like Gargantua was supposed to be in the movie - there could be a relatively calm area in the middle where you could survive. You'd fall toward the singularity literally forever, and you couldn't ever exit the black hole, but you wouldn't necessarily be crushed or stretched or destroyed. Also, outside of RL science, the "bulk beings" of the movie constructed a tesseract for Coop to enter inside the black hole so, y'know, they weren't just letting him float through the turbulent forces of a black hole. They were presumably guiding him to their construct (or built the construct where he would be falling; depends on how you look at time-space-quantum possibility).
The way I think about the tesseract at the end, btw, is similar to the way we work with computers. Computers work in machine language but machine language is super complex and abstract and would be difficult for a human to use. For that reason, we have programming languages that allow us to communicate with the computer using slightly more natural language. The programming languages translate our requests into machine language for the computer to process and translate the computer's response from machine language back to outputs we can more easily understand. To make that even easier for the average user, programmers use these programming languages to create interfaces like Windows and Mac OS. So, basically, the future humans who live in the 5th dimension built Coop a Windows for Time and gave him an app that allows him access to every moment in time that Murph's bedroom existed. Then, once the job was done, they closed the app (aka the tesseract) and dropped him off near Saturn where he'd be found and rescued.

Just an interesting fact: Kip Thorne was the physicist behind the physics that were in the movie and he released a book called "The Science of Interstellar" and in 2017 he won a Nobel Prize for his decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves.

Christopher Nolan got a nobel prize winner scientist Dr. Kip Thorne to help him with the script. The scary part is the movie is all scientifically plausible.
The vfx team used real blackhole equations given by Dr. Kip Throne to make the blackhole. It was the most accurate visual of a blackhole and is used in a lot of scientific research. It turned out to be similar to the real photo of blackhole later

The data to solve gravity equation is right there in Murph's bedroom all these years right after when Cooper left home. Even when the adult murph took the watch from the box, she looks at it, smiles at itz (coz her dad gave) thinks that the second hand is twitching due to damage coz she had thrown it out of anger when her dad left. But after recreating the incidents that happened in her childhood, after realising it was her dad who communicates through gravity, then she looks at the watch to only understand that the second hand is not twitching exactly it's just moving coz of gravity.❤

There is a life orchestra version of the docking scene on youtube. i higly recommend it. Hans Zimmer did or probably still does a bunch of those movie music concerts where he plays all of his greatest film music. and my my, basically every time a film had a truely beautiful score that somehow sticks to your memory, it was hans zimmer.
and for me personally, the music throughout interstellar in general, but especially in the docking scene, just has to be the best ive ever heard in any movie.

I watched many "Interstellar" reactions, and spotted a big difference between viewers with kids, and viewers without. I watched this movie shortly after I got married, back then to me was just a fascinating sci-fi movie. But when I re-watched after we have our daughter, by God every scene hits hard I get all tear up no matter how many times I watch it!

As a single dad of daughters that are my world and my baby bieng just a bit younger than Murphy , this movie KILLS ME every time!!! I could NEVER abandon my baby not knowing when or if I’d be back. Not a chance. I know it was to “save the human race in theory but with the impending reality that my babies WILL starve to death & the only possible save bieng going through a wormhole and finding another habitable planet and then then the “problem of gravity” has to be solved for any of it to work, no way in hell I could abandon my baby for even a year! My daughters are my everything, leaving them for ANY reason , regardless of intent ,..to a child , especially a dads daughter (s) that’s SO close , a father leaving devastates that child , they can’t and don’t understand , lifelong trauma , no way I could make my babies feel like they aren’t #1 to me,..ESPECIALLY not knowing when or if I’d be back. The possibility they’d starve alone without me there to provide & assure & love them, NO WAY! id turn down the offer, knowing the worlds ending , how and why, id research the best possible, scenario /location to go through this & move to southern Alaska, no dust bowls possible up there , jet stream comes from the arctic, its one of the most scarecely populated places on earth so resources would bd plentiful, build a cabin far from others so when social order colapses , location unknown. ive got plenty of firearms for safety & hunting , id take jsut the necessities , load up moatly with food storage & seeds to plant , solar equipment and take my girls to Alaska and tell them the truth, use the unique advantage id now have of being one of the few that KNOWS we have juat a few years to prepare & noone else knows foods almost out. build a homesteadt /farm that would likely not see the effects most the world would & give thrm the happiest life possible in those scenarios.
i know se learn its him that was doing it all so if he didnt go its possible it wouldnt have worked but he as a character & dad KNEW there was NO guarantee hed be back or how long itd be if so. he knew his wife passed away, his dad caring for them is very old & wouldn't live long so a goos chance they could end up in serious trouble & potentially dying alone not knowing what happened to me. i couldn't risk that on someone saying hell solve gravity. i love his relationship with Murphy because my middle daughter and baby are 100% daddy's girls since birth where my biggest hope in life was to be a dad , from their birth i was so ecstatic to raise my babies , being a mr mom amd provider, doing everything from meals to getting them dressed, bathing, rockimg them to sleep at night , taking care of them when theyd wake in the night from nighmares pr blowouts, spending hours each day with them playing , tsking them everywhere with me. my babies immidatldly got to where they only wanted to be held by me & i am so grateful. with our bond i couldn't leave them. brands dad said "go out and save them" but with the unknowns id feel a million times more confident and good with STAYING amd working a plan to "save them" while with them.

One thing I noticed this reaction is how Dr. Brand took Murphy under his wing. She became almost like a new daughter figure to him since he knew years prior that he was never going to see his bio daughter ever again.
