I grew up in Monson, and live next door in Palmer, fabulous libraries! Holyoke, Chicopee and Springfield are great for their colleges, I list three: Holyoke Community College in Holyoke. Elms College in Chicopee. Springfield Technical Community College! We had a grea mall, Eastfield Mall. We have Holyoke Mall At Ingleside!
While Springfield has some (2 or so nice places) fairly nice sections to live, you really do put your life on the line being there. From the gangs, the drugs, the random gun fire , Springfield is a dangerous city.
Grew up in Springfield, it’s a great place. Know your neighborhoods of course. Communities like Agawam, although much quieter than Springfield, has its fair share of theft.
I say Holyoke is up in the top aswell

Springfield?!! NO!!!! 😂😂😂 jaw dropped when you mentioned Springfield. I could see maybe west springfield but that’s a stretch too. Springfield is dangerous high crime rate
I’m from eastern MA, and I moved to western MA like almost 9 years ago. I experienced the culture shock of my life. Eastern MA very busy, modern, Western MA, basically like living in some rural hamlet. A small state with two very different worlds. And, I’ve been here long enough that I actually prefer western MA now because it’s quiet and there’s hardly any traffic lol

My only criticism is your pronunciation of Amherst. Not sure if it's the local dialect out here or if it's the technically correct pronunciation, but the 'H' is Amherst is silent.
I’m from WESTERN MASS
Just to put it in perspective, I live in Amherst and I pay $1575 for a 1BR 700 sq ft apt. And frankly, this is one of the best around wrt Value and convenience.
We have a great bus system thanks to UMass and Soo many stores there on Rt 9.
Most people will tell you how dangerous Springfield is-and they’re correct! It ranks around 20th in the US, BUT Springfield has Soo many good towns within its City Limits. Beautiful old Victorians, and great restaurants, hospital employment, fun bars and a Great Casino complex and a thriving downtown and the police work Hard to keep it safe. Culture! You should definitely check out the Symphony Orchestra right off I-91. They’ll give the Boston SO a run for their money. I love Easthampton too, not just Northampton. It’s quaint and safe.
I love the city life, but you’ll Never find More Free Beauty in this state than in Western Mass.
