If you’re looking for a great sound for a 350z I recommend going with invidia N1, agency power y pipe, and motordyne art pipes with stock headers. Another option would be a full motordyne from the headers back ( motordyne tdx2). Third recommendation would be ARK Grip v2 exhaust with motordyne art pipes and stock headers or get ISR long tubes. If you’re picky about exhaust note (me), then your best bet is to stick with dual exits imo.

If we wanna get technical, test-pipes are inherently cat-less. They are straight (or resonated) pipes that replace the catalytic converters. The reason they are called "test pipes" is because they are *theoretically* just supposed to be used for temporary "testing", since removing your catalytic converters for daily use is 100% illegal. Also, a catback replaces any part of the exhaust after the catalytic converters (or test pipes), including the Y/H/X pipe, mid-pipe(s), and muffler(s). There are also "Y-pipe back" exhausts- which replace the exhaust from the Y-pipe back- and axleback exhausts, which replace the exhaust after the rear axles (usually just the rear muffler(s) or "backbox". Otherwise, very comprehensive video
I went with a 2 and 2 setup, i didnt want a Frankenstein clusterfk of different brands for my exhaust build. I went with Z1 HFC, Z1 Y Pipe, ISR Single Exit GT. It sounds really deep and growly thanks for the ISR resonator which made the entire thing perfect. Doesn't sound like a trombone at all which made me happy af.
Tomei with resonated test pipes and y pipe is the best, especially on an hr since the stock headers give the tone a clearer sounding tone than the stock de/revup headers

Megan racing test pipes paired with a muffler delete is the cheapest (cost me around 450$) best sounding exhaust setup in my opinion, it sounds borderline gtr ishh, does not sound like a trumpet at all, I've gotten compliments from muscle car guys so that speaks volumes
My set up is stock manifold, de-cats, invidia gemini (true dual system with an x pipe) love the tone and is quiet when you want it to then asbo when you send it.
Honestly, I wish people did more ISR cat back exhaust with Tomei y pipes and headers to hear how it sounds because everyone does ISR y pipe and tomei cat back. Currently running the isr blast pipes with resonator rest is stock.
I rather replace the headers. DE headers are crap. You can put HR headers but you have to remember to get HR test pipes. Headers and art pipes make about the same power like long tubes. I have full motordyne, stillen hi flow intake and motordyne spacer. Sounds 👌 it’s tuned but I’m gonna get the 75 throttle body, admin or limp mode tuning intake, headers and retune to see if I can get more power

@leonZ I took the muffler of my G35 coupe whicheaves you with a single pipe all the way back to the axle and went to thw muffler shop and told them run single piping to the left side where I brought a Megan racing 4.5” muffler. Everything else was stock. It sounded really good bro. It was perfect. I then added non Resonated test pipes and it was loud af and droney.. so just do all that Nd leave stock cats. You will see what I mean
Its hard to say, theres an excellent video by donut media where (among other things) they explain the give and take on back pressure and restriction on flow. On paper dual exhausts have more unnecessary bends but also more diameter so it should be the same. The 350 will benefit a lot anyway as the stock exhaust is quite restrictive. Tomei cat back tomei y pipe stock cats is the best sound no doubt but if your gonna replace your cats if you dont get art pipes its just a waste of a $1000 tbh dont cheap out

I just want something to be loud cuz I wanna be heard and I wanna be able to hear my car roar yet I don't want a huge amount of drone. Techtronic if it’s just gonna be the exhaust with no cats you should be fine the drone usually comes from removing the cats i recommend the tomei it sounds amazing when that’s the only mod no rasp no drone just pure deep vq noise
Nothing from the exhaust is changed from the DE to the HR except for maybe the cats since the HR has equal length short headers from the factory. Other than that, the exhaust setups are the same.

I daily my z on z1 test pipes and injen true dual, stock headers. Sounds really good and has a nice deep tone. Not much drone and is nice around town.
