My father did, too. He had a Wasp Association cap he would never let me wear. But years after his death in 2001, I wore it to an electronics store. As I stood in line to make a purchase I started talking to a young man behind me. I noticed his wife was looking at me. She then screamed, “Look at his cap!” He did and was somewhat shocked when he read Wasp Association. I told him my father had been on the Wasp’s first Pacific cruise in 1944. He said he had been a sailor on the new Wasp’s first cruise.
