    Thanks for this interesting video. I'm several years -- 54 to be exact -- out of high school, and I'm eager to relearn my math, just because it's worth knowing.
    There's something about the video I don't get. At 2:50, you say you're "shifting" y^2 + x^2 = r^2 to the right, yielding y^2 + (x-r)^2 = r^2. But for this shift to occur, doesn't (x-r)^2 have to substitute for x^2? I don't see how it does. Can you please help with this? I've been killing my brain on it.

    • @carultch
      @carultch Рік тому

      That's precisely what she does at 2:50. She replaces x^2 in the original equation with (x - r)^2, in order to shift it to the right by r units. Since no other terms contain x, that's all the shifting you'd need to do.

      Yup. Algebra is used to find answers in everyday life. We use it when we talk. The word is means equals.
      Love is forgiveness and we have to forgive our abusers including the 1st grade math teacher who calls their students retarded.
      So balancing equations help come to the conclusion that everyday we can balance our time, food, sleep, company, etc.
      Forgiveness is not normal in capitalism but it is necessary for positive relationships.
      Sometimes we skip steps but we will have to correct it later.
      Also, not forgiving causes anger and we can die from a heart attack even if we eat healthily.

    • @codyhubert6178
      @codyhubert6178 Рік тому +1

      It's just a video applying math to an example. Most likely nobody watching this video cares about how far he climbed or fell. The point is to demonstrate the ways we use quadratic equations to explain real things.
      It's likely that if you actively refuse to see ways to apply equations to the real world, you'll never be able to use math to determine something you actually want to know.

      Acceleration Does Not Depends On the mass of the object .
      It depends on the surface area which resists the air .

    • @carultch
      @carultch Рік тому +1

      Free fall is a special case where acceleration doesn't depend on the mass of the object, because everybody brought mass to the party. Both the force causing it, and the inertia brought mass to the party, and mass cancels out of the equation. On our planet, rounded to a nice round number, it's about 10 m/s^2. The global average is about 9.8 m/s^2.
      For acceleration in general, it does depend on the mass of the object, if the net force causing it is independent of mass.

    A quadratic is a rectangle that is made of 1 or more squares but the y component increases faster or slower by a constant multiplied by the side of x.
    The lowest integer for the relationship is
    x^2 + 6x - 16 = 0
    +16 +16
    x^2 + 6x = 16
    Complete the square by adding (1/2×b)^2 because
    x^2 ___________ 3x ____
    I I I I
    I I I I
    I. I. I. I
    I__________I. I___I
    3x. ___________ _____
    I__________I. I 9 I
    I__ _I
    Add 9
    x^2 + 6x + 9 = 25
    First Inner Outer Last
    (x+3)^2 = 25
    Square root both sides
    + or - (x+3) = 5
    x + 3 = 5. Or. -(x) - 3 = 5
    -x = 8
    Answer is
    x = 2. Or. x = -8

    Why does anyone think that there is any human activity or experience that is not "in real life"? I think that a good philosophical argument cam be made that that phrase is "hollow".

      Interesting comment. I used to hate back in high school they used to say "when you go out in the real world" and I used to laugh and say something akin to, well if this isn't the real world what is it? Oh the things I could've accomplished if I'd just realized that too was the "real world" and that I didn't need permission or two college degrees or a job to be great. You live and you learn. But if any kid happens to read this, if you wanna accomplish something, just start. You have all the time in the world. Don't wait.

      I mean it isn’t. It’s just used in the wrong contexts and against the wrong subjects. But maths isn’t something we experience we do or experience so by your very own logic even that doesn’t fall under your paradigm.

      What are you saying isn't real life? Who is this "we" who don't experience mathematics? I don't recall stating a "paradigm" or mentioning one or calling one mine. In any case, I did not present a logic that I would call my "very own".

Yet taxes and insurance, something we deal with every year, is not taught and is mostly Greek to me. Ironically math is Greek, and I understand that much more
