underthepale it’s a good setting with good adventures, it’s made to notnspecifically tie to the show, just the world it takes place in. A good portion of the book is about the continent, it’s locations, cultures, and things but it includes 4 pages of normal magic items, new one forged from the gods of the world, subclasses as he said and spells. The races can fit well in any setting. The book is good for anyone who will enjoy a new setting, or new subclasses, or new spells, or new magic items, or less so interesting new monsters, or a few sub races. I’d recommend it if you like any of those things.
The book was made specifically with people that don't know critical role in mind. It does a great job explaining things that before were barely explained in the show
All of the D&D races gathered in one book, a new setting with well written guides and three new subclasses? This is going above Volo's and Mordenkainen's for must-have books.
It's funny how me and Davvy have the opposite opinions on the wizard subclasses, I find the chronurgy wizard to be quite good but it's abilities have such a long cooldown, with some parts lacking when compared to divination wizards deciding fate. But graviturgy I just love it, all the abilities are low impact but you can keep throwing them out constantly (my love of cantrips may be coming out) Also the level 2 ability while only being a single feature includes 2 different effects which both can simultaneously buff and/or debuff a creature depending on a situation, I just love it.
2:29 I think they didn't do it to make Ravnica unique (my favorite DND setting besides my DM's homebrew and the Forgotten Realms actually) and because those Races are actually unique to Ravnica.
To anyone thinking the Gravaturgist is underpowered, get jump plus adjust gravity on and have your barbarian grapple and launch enemies into the sky or suplex them, trust me, doing an extra 6d6 damage with a grapple attack at level 2 is nothing short of ridiculous, especially when you can catch the barb coming down with feather fall,
the only issue is that jumping uses your speed, so the barbarian would only be able to reach a height equal to their remaining movement speed. Assuming your character had a strength score of 20 you would be able to jump 8 feet in the air with a running long jump, this then gets doubled by adjust gravity to 16 feet, and finally tripled tripled to 48 feet. If this is at level 2 though you could only reach a height of 20 feet, since it takes 10 feet of movement to preform a running jump and you cannot move higher than your speed during your turn you can use the Dash Action to jump the whole 48 feet up, but that does give your grapple target a round to try and break out, and for every 2 points of strength below 20 you have you lose 6 feet of jump distance, so a level 2 barbarian with 16 strength can only jump 36 feet up in one round
@@tenacityxl if they could get their jump height maxed out, which is 288 feet before factoring in gravaturgy, so you could in theory jump up to 576 feet in the air as long as you had at least 586 feet of movement per round and had every stacking jump buff simultaneously
Dude, Imagine using Adjust Density with Enlarge/Reduce. See a chandelier over an enemy? Just enlarge it and increase its gravity. And Adjust Density would double the enlarged weight of the object. Or Reduce the size of a boulder then reduce its gravity and yeet it. Also at 10 Lvl Adjust Density affects Huge or even smaller objects or creatures.

Not sure why Guildmasters' Guide to Ravnica gets a lot of hate in the D&D sphere, i think its a great setting and was a cool addition to the D&D settings options.
This came out literally a few hours before I'm scheduled to DM one of the adventures from this book. And I'm with ya, Davvy; this book is amazing! There's so much content and yet doesn't feel bloated going through it! I love it so much!
I’m surprised Matt didn’t add the Cobalt Soul Monk into the book. I like the idea of a lore monk that used INT (I like playing high INT characters lol). Makes me a little sad.
Overall, it's an amazing book for dnd. I particularly like the arms of the betrayers which are magic items that upgrade themselves as the game goes on. That's super neat and saves me from having to to figure out what the players can do with their old +1 magic items when they find a new +2 one. My only disappointment was that they didn't include Bloodhunter as an official class or gunslinger as an official fighter subclass. This stings especially bad as they did include a Bloodhunter in the bestiary and they were mentioned several times throughout the book.
Not a CR fan, but I did pick this up... mostly for the Echo Knight, given how Luna was using it to tear through stuff in Necrohunt. Personally, I'd reskin the echo knight (like Jo and Shelby did) to fit the game. And I LOVE the setting info. It reminds me of the gold standard, the 3e Forgotten Realms main book.
Echo Knight: D4C Chronergy Wizard: The World And I guess you could say the Graviturgy Wizard is some combination of Echoes Act 3 and Jumpin' Jack Flash
Matt is a fan of you Davvy. You, me, Matt, the whole cast of Critical Role and everyone else know it! Ps. Getting rid of the intelligence negative to Orcs makes me happy
I love playing Echo Knight. My character's an archer to boot so he can be sitting in safety, pissing his pants while the echo takes and gives the hurt. Oh, the echo got hit? Boo-hoo-nus action. Oh, I'm grappled? No, the echo's grappled. The echo is immune to status effects anyway so it can't be grappled.
Cool, I was unsure on whether to get this book but now I'm sold. Wizards really gave their all into making this as comprehensive as they can. I might be able to use this for all my campaigns regardless of setting.
I love this book, except for hollowed One. A 16 or higher to come back to life with 1 hp is ridiculous (If I allow this in the game I have to start double taping players.) Other than that I'm glad wizards of the coast have been supportive about fan made settings becoming published books.
I realized while watching this video, but not because of this video. Dunamancy is where you get your magic from or rather a sub type of magic. There is Arcane that is gifted through the study of magic in its raw form, Divine Magic Selected and then gifted to Mortals by their Patron, And now Dunamancy the study of how to filter Magic specifically to alter reality.
I love the idea of Dunamancy, but I really wish at least one of the subclasses was for Sorcerer. I'm so tired of fighter and wizard subclasses, mainly because those are some of my least favorite classes flavor-wise.
Be an echo knight Use a shield Get your echo to jump on your shield and boost up Swap places with your echo Slam down onto your enemy Or use a grappling hook
Fun fact. Graviturgist is the ultimate troll. The best way to play it is to set up area hazards and then constantly force the enemy back into them. Combo with an ally and you can basically be the bully that every wizard wishes they were able to be back when Chad the sorcerer was being a cock back in school
Time Wizard is broken AF. Give bead with Tiny Hut to familiar. Have familiar cast it in fight and the entire party can duck in and out of the hut as much as they want. Enemies readying an attack? Go out the opposite side where they don't have line of sight, you'll have disadvantage but they arguably can't trigger their attack.
Just let the gravity wizard use a bonus action for the other second level ability. Which’ll allow them to alter their gravitational point so they can walk on walls or ceilings. Crazy wizard‘s spiderclimb
I think the channel divinity is pretty good, Inspiring Smite to at level 5 gives you up to 21 temphp to give to whoever you want, its' completely off of the action economy which makes it incredibly valuable - despite its very limited use. The aura sucks but they do get guiding bolt and haste
So I just checked and although the book has a lot of races previously released, DnD Beyond doesn't take them as options for your character builder. Only the "Exandria orc". You know, just in case you're like me and enjoy having everything digitally and were thinking of skipping Volo as a sourcebook and just get this one...
Arcane Trickster who takes Gravitergy but limited to only being able to cast on self is Nightfall. Also, for anyone hasn't, you should read Legend of Nightfall. It needs to be the Next Big Blockbuster Fantasy film of the decade.
I think it would of been cool if it would of had the Mighty Nein's stats and backstories printed in it. Then we could throw them into our game as NPCs if we wanted.
I played my centaur echo knight last night for the first time. It's a lot of fun. My DM spent this morning figure out what I can and cannot do and how to stop me. Me: I'd like to hit it, hit it, and them my echo will hit it, action surge, I hit it again. DM: :( And that's at level 3.
It does! Imagine multiclassing with it. Also at lvl 7 gives you Echo Avatar that transfers your consciousness to the Echo Knight and let's you see and hear through it as far as 1,000 feet from your body.
I good way to use Echo Avatar would be your party is in danger and you have your Echo write a letter needing help and go to a place within 1,000 ft, and it takes no action to use Echo Avatar. Or use it to go talk to a villain from a safe distance.

You can get the bloodhunter subclass on dm's guild. I think it's a pay what you want pdf download.
edit: same goes for the gunslinger I think
Ouch, My Ravnica
Not a CR fan, but I did pick this up... mostly for the Echo Knight, given how Luna was using it to tear through stuff in Necrohunt.
Personally, I'd reskin the echo knight (like Jo and Shelby did) to fit the game. And I LOVE the setting info. It reminds me of the gold standard, the 3e Forgotten Realms main book.
Echo Knight: D4C
Chronergy Wizard: The World
And I guess you could say the Graviturgy Wizard is some combination of Echoes Act 3 and Jumpin' Jack Flash
When youre so early there are no good comments
“The Heroic Chronicle has things that will actually be useful.”
Yes, I will use what my favorite food is.
Matt is a fan of you Davvy. You, me, Matt, the whole cast of Critical Role and everyone else know it!
Ps. Getting rid of the intelligence negative to Orcs makes me happy
While im not a CR fan im glad both them Acquisitions incorporated got canonized.
Dude, I didn't know this book was this brick shittingly cool. Well looks like I'll be giving it a shot
Wizards?
Nooo more like Matt, and the four other free-lancers that worked on the book with him! Wizards mainly just did the editing.
And it’s Davvy’s turn,
Davvy’s turn
Davvy’s turnnnn...
TO ROOOOOOOOOLL!
This makes me want to see your take on the Acquisitions Incorporated book
I really believe narratively that your character should die in the Blight Shore or Wastes of Xhorhas for Hollow One to make sense.
Triton's, lizardfolk, kobald, and yuan-ti pureblood are not reprinted in the book from Volo's. Also deep gnomes weren't reprinted as well.
1:06 tfw a Ravenloft Darklord shows up in my Davvy video about Critical Role
I love this book, except for hollowed One. A 16 or higher to come back to life with 1 hp is ridiculous (If I allow this in the game I have to start double taping players.) Other than that I'm glad wizards of the coast have been supportive about fan made settings becoming published books.
Yeah, its a bit overpowered. As a DM I would scale it up to 18-20 or even 19-20, In case a player wanted to play one.
the best book ever, sure
8:06. You can't fool me, Chappy! I know Witch Hunter when I see it!
2:09 it's GARfield the DEALS warlock
Why does this not have 2k likes??
I can finally play as Magneto in D&D. Great video.
I wanna believe that the Wildemount book and the Exandria book are compatible with each other, sans the blood hunter.
They are... they're different continents in the same world
I have that poster now on my wall and I have using magnet to add things to the maps
the final chronurgy thing is basically Dr. Strange searching through all 12x10^Too-Many to find THE ONE that succeeds
Arthur Augefort is the best Chronogy wizard of all time.
All races...
Except Kobold. They forgot the cute li'l scaly rats.
And there's some others missing, but I guess Tortles are officially canon now.
I saw a Kobold Knight in the Patron list. Huh.
Guess I'm not the only one that loves the little blighters! FIGHT ON, KOBOLD KNIGHT!
theyve been canon a while now. or are you just talking about exandria canon? because theyve been D&D canon since ToA.
I love the idea of Dunamancy, but I really wish at least one of the subclasses was for Sorcerer. I'm so tired of fighter and wizard subclasses, mainly because those are some of my least favorite classes flavor-wise.
Love you for the Brennan shout out!
I never: BUT VIDEO GUY anybody. But video guy, you forgot the Halfling hippy subrace! Good video man
0:28 Davvy acting like he's not a Chad
Not gonna lie the echo knight is the coolest sounding thing in the world
Be an echo knight
Use a shield
Get your echo to jump on your shield and boost up
Swap places with your echo
Slam down onto your enemy
Or use a grappling hook
Yes. Just glad to be here
Basically, those two books I bought? Out the window.
Fun fact. Graviturgist is the ultimate troll. The best way to play it is to set up area hazards and then constantly force the enemy back into them. Combo with an ally and you can basically be the bully that every wizard wishes they were able to be back when Chad the sorcerer was being a cock back in school
Nice. Can you make Guide to Acquisitions Incorporated book next?? Or do u already made one?
I wasnt expecting Davvy to just say "I'm a bottom!" like that
Echo knight: exist
All other fighter's subclasses: -Yeah, Yeah fuck me
No one being should ever be able to control the tops and bottoms. It is a forbidden power too great for mortals to manipulate.
Time Wizard is broken AF. Give bead with Tiny Hut to familiar. Have familiar cast it in fight and the entire party can duck in and out of the hut as much as they want.
Enemies readying an attack? Go out the opposite side where they don't have line of sight, you'll have disadvantage but they arguably can't trigger their attack.
wow... those echoknights are just Dave Strider
Explain. Why do people hate Ravnica?
I think its something to do with mtg
Echo knight is straight up just Dave Strider... also the capstone ability for the ocean paladin is Vriska
Just let the gravity wizard use a bonus action for the other second level ability. Which’ll allow them to alter their gravitational point so they can walk on walls or ceilings. Crazy wizard‘s spiderclimb
ah ah ah. Not quite every 5e race. It lacks the Yuan-ti pureblood and eberron races, except for the Orc.
Echo Knight makes me want to try to create Funny Valentine as a character.
I think the channel divinity is pretty good, Inspiring Smite to at level 5 gives you up to 21 temphp to give to whoever you want, its' completely off of the action economy which makes it incredibly valuable - despite its very limited use. The aura sucks but they do get guiding bolt and haste
New subclasses for *Especially the wizard*
So I just checked and although the book has a lot of races previously released, DnD Beyond doesn't take them as options for your character builder. Only the "Exandria orc".
You know, just in case you're like me and enjoy having everything digitally and were thinking of skipping Volo as a sourcebook and just get this one...
So what you're saying is that the echo knight helps you do Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.
filthy acts at a reasonable price
20 bucks is 20 bucks
Arcane Trickster who takes Gravitergy but limited to only being able to cast on self is Nightfall.
Also, for anyone hasn't, you should read Legend of Nightfall. It needs to be the Next Big Blockbuster Fantasy film of the decade.
Never heard of Nightfall, but it sounds interesting.
I think it would of been cool if it would of had the Mighty Nein's stats and backstories printed in it. Then we could throw them into our game as NPCs if we wanted.
I'm not gonna lie, that Echo Knight subclass seems pretty sick. I think I might use that the next time I roll up a Fighter.
I love how you’re literally pulling a version of yourself from a different timeline into your own timeline to help you kick ass.
Yeah man. The Echo Knight is awesome. When I roll a fighter I'm definitely playing one.
Critical role is why i started playing personally.
Gravity is a harness.
*I have harnessed the harness.*
Chappy is a switch hitter 👌
